I can't believe this is a full movie.

Geena filmed Earth Girls only a few months after Beetlejuice back in 1987 but she was covered for the entire movie, so you wouldn't have noticed.

Believe it or not, she Geena was already in her 30's when she filmed Earth Girls. I haven't seen her much at all in the last two decades but back in her prime, she was a real peach.

Earth Girls was the third movie that Geena made with Jeff Goldblum in the late 80s. The others were 1985's "Transylvania 6-5000" where she played a nymphomaniac vampire and then in 1986 she was his leading lady in the "The Fly". Geena and Goldblum filmed three movies together in the late 80's but after Earth Girls they never worked together again.

You probably had no idea but they were married from '87-'90 so that is likely why their professional relationship lasted as long as their personal one.

Yeah, she didn't look like that in Beetlejuice.

I've seen The Fly, freaked me out as a kid and gave me nightmares. Interesting, I had no idea they were married.

I watched Top Secret! last night. What a fun movie. It's a lot more vulgar than I remembered. I suppose that's because the version I watched was the censored-for-TV version.

Love that kind of movie.

Kilmer really hit the ground running because Top Secret was his first leading role. Though I preferred Real Genius. Cool

Top Secret '84
Real Genius '85
Top Gun 86'

Some of the tv censoring for 80's movies is kind of jarring if that's all you knew for years before you ever saw the original cut.

The Breakfast Club edited for tv played like a wholesome movie about anti-bullying and friendship where people randomly decided to dance for no reason but the theatrical cut made it clear they got baked first and that made the reason for dancing finally make sense to me. Razz

The Bad News Bears (1976) - I only saw this once as a kid and then again nearly thirty years later, it doesn't hold the same nostalgia for me as it does for Kevin Smith and Chris Jericho. I thought it was just ok.

Cheech and Chong Still Smokin (1983) - The worst of the C&C movies I've rewatched so far. The original is really the only one that holds up after all these years and it's totally absurd.

Cape Fear (1991) - De Niro at his finest and Juliette Lewis at the beginning of her 90's ascent as an It Girl.

Knives Out - I liked it, Rian Johnson did a great job. As you guys know, I love whodunit mystery movies like this. They're talking about making a sequel with Daniel Craig now. Daniel's Blanc reminded me of Frank Underwood the way he spoke.

One Crazy Summer (1986) - I hadn't seen this Cusack movie in almost twenty years. Unfortunately my memory of it was was much better than the reality of it.

The Big Lebowski (1998) - An old favorite that I will never tire of. The Dude Abides. Cool

The Lincoln Lawyer (2011) - There are about a dozen McConaughey movies streaming between Hulu and Prime right now. This one was alright but I never care for lawyer related movies or shows, I just wanted to give this a second chance after all these years. It was alright but it was a very basic and predictable tale.

Mimic (1997) - GDT's early work about giant genetically modified cockroaches taking over New York. This was garbage.

Super 8 (2011) - Hadn't seen this since original release. It held up and Elle Fanning was already stealing scenes at 12 years old.

American Ultra (2015) - A highly enjoyable Manchurian Candidiate esque stoner comedy. Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart are much more tolerable when they're working together like in Adventureland. Also, it's a good get high and laugh kind of movie, I'll be adding this into the rotation. Cool

The Beach Bum (2019) - Harmony Korine, you always make such garbage. There were a few funny lines very early into the movie but it's basically a movie about a typical Florida trash bag poet played by McConaughey who's doing absolutely nothing but getting high and being a selfish dick, there is no character arc whatsoever. The plot doesn't really exist either, he just wanders scene to scene with no direction.

I don't like Harmony Korine, the dude is very skeevy and I knew I wouldn't like it because as you said, the trailer was bad and so are his other movies. He seems like he just wants to make porn but also wants to keep pretending he also can make actual films.

After watching The Lincoln Lawyer Hulu auto played Beach Bum and I wish I'd just stopped it first. I don't typically hate McConaughey movies but over the last ten years he's made far fewer movies that I can actually rewatch, his earlier career was more consistent for me.

Fallen (1998) - Tiiiiiiiiiiiiime is on my side......yes it is... Along with Usual Suspects, Fallen was one of my very first introductions to a story with an unreliable narrator. These days that is all the rage on tv and something we've grown accustomed to seeing but I remember experiencing those twists for the very first time and Fallen really surprised me as a kid. Denzel, John Goodman, Donald Sutherland and a memorable opening with Elias Koteas singing some Stones while being executed in the gas chamber.  Cool

Frailty (2002) - I needed a reliable McConaughey pallet cleanser following Beach Bum. I never tire of this one and I've seen it probably a dozen times over the years. It does make me miss Paxton though, so many great movies in his career. I should add a few to my queue.

Super (2010) - "Shut Up Crime!" I hadn't seen this in ten years. Pretty funny and way more violent than I remembered.

I watched Horse Girl on Netflix last night. It was interesting, not really sure what I think of it but Alison Brie is great and has some brief full frontal, so that was nice

Also watched a majority of the Police Academy movies since we were talking about them. They hold up pretty well, good mix of comedic styles

Spider-Man: Far From Home

I resisted paying for it, but it popped up here on Amarzon Prime this week so I gave it a try.

This was actually a fun film. Had one of the more enjoyable "final battle" scenes, which tend to go overboard for too long. This managed to do it right without feeling like a chore to sit through.

The 3rd film should be interesting now his identity has become public.

Jumanji: The Next Level. I had no idea that Bebe Newuwirth returned from the original. I really liked this addition to the franchise and catching back up with Aunt Nora after 25 years. I also hadn't seen Bebe since Bored to Death with Ted Danson about ten years ago. I didn't know she still acted.

1917: Good movie. The most impressive thing about it was the way it was shot. I've never seen a war movie that was filmed in one shot for the whole movie. If there were cuts, I didn't notice them other than the blackout scene. Kudos to the director for making it this way and it couldn't have been easy for everything to go perfectly in a single take. Definitely made it more realistic that way. The story is simple, a soldier is given a mission to deliver a message to a battalion ordering them to stand down. The journey there is the movie and it was interesting with good performances. If you like war movies, I recommend it.

Fucking Amazon Prime.

Watched The 40 Year Old Virgin last night, and it's the fucking censored version.

Two of the best scenes in the movie are cut. Kevin Harts scene. They showed up until about the 40 second mark of the scene below, but cut it after the Indian guy says "today's forecast, dark and cloudy". Fuckers.

And this scene also isn't in it:

I've noticed quite a few censored scenes in movies on Prime. About a month ago I watched the Leonard Nimoy directed masterpiece "Holy Matrimony" about a ten year old Amish Joseph Gordon marrying a grown ass early 90s Patricia Arquette and they edited the scene where she pops out naked and tries to scare him, so he just knocks on her front door and instead of seeing anything he just runs away screaming after knocking. Razz Evil or Very Mad

Doing similar. Just realised Martial Law I & II, Honor & Glory, and Angel Undercover are all on Prime, so I'm about to have a Cynthia Rothrock marathon.

However before I start, after finishing Marco Polo I'm need of some more Michelle Yeoh, so I'm going to start with:

  • Wing Chun (with Donnie Yen)
  • Police Story 3: Supercop (with Jackie Chan)
  • ... and the two Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon films.

Wing Chun for those so inclined:

Didn't realize we were all Dragon and Rothrock fans but I feel like that pretty much speaks directly to our collective 90s childhoods. Except for Abe who has no idea who The Dragon or Rothrock even are.

Zombieland - Still holds up.

Zombieland: Double Tap - I enjoyed the sequel far more than I'd expected. The trailers didn't really do it justice and made it seem like all the side characters took over the movie so I took my time getting around to finally watching but in actuality it's still the core 4 on a new adventure that added to the franchise. A worthy sequel to the Zombieland name. Maybe ten years from now, we might even get a Z3.

This was a damn fine double feature. Cool

The Hunt: This movie was funny. Enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. The political jabs to both sides is really funny and you'll enjoy it if you don't like politics. Betty Gilpin was really good in this too. I've never seen her in a role like this. Her character is a little crazy but also kicks ass. I don't know why tried to stop this movie from releasing before but it wasn't that alarming at all.

Because it's a giant dick slap in the face to gun nuts and Trump was personally rallying against it's "evil agenda".

I'm not into these types of movies but entertaining for a monster movie. It was very short, 90 mins.

Spoiler:

Oh dude, that sounds suuuuuuper shitty........ Shocked

This week I've watched:

The Kid (2019) - Vincent D'Onfiro directed Ethan Hawke and Dane Dehaan starring Billy the Kid western that reunites three members of the Magnificent Seven with Chris Pratt playing an absolutely viscous psychopath and main villain of the film. I spend the movie thinking the female lead Leila George is very attractive and slightly familiar but entirely unknown to me, so I look her up and discover that Leila George is actually Leila George D'Onofrio who is Vincent and Greta Scacchi's 28 year old daughter. I will be keeping an eye out for her in the future. Cool

'71 (2014) - Jack O'Connell always impresses me but he doesn't work nearly enough these days. Pretty good movie about a lone soldier trying to survive the night in Ireland while being hunted by both the IRA and his fellow British military.

White Lightning (1973) Burt Reynolds as a moonshine running blocker fresh out of prison and seeking vengeance for his murdered hippie brother, this is basically rehearsal for Smokey and the Bandit and it reunited Reynold and Ned Beatty the year after they made Deliverance. Jerry Reed plays the man Reynolds is blocking for. FYI, Tarantino would later use some of the White Lightning score in Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds.

Gator (1976) - The very poorly scripted sequel to White Lightning in which Burt only agreed to do the terrible script because they let him direct it. It's a total mess, doesn't even feel connected to the first movie and at one point features a main character played by the great Jerry Reed running a private harem of 14 and 15 year old girls and he actually says the line that he judges them "by weight not by age". Shocked

And this was made less than a year before Reynolds and Reed made Bandit. For some reason, Jerry Reed played two completely different characters in White Lightning and Gator and I have absolutely no idea why.

The way my friend told me the “giant monster” was Cthulhu. He ended up watching it and thinks that’s what it was supposed to be, but it was smaller than he expected so now I’m still curious enough to kinda want to see it, but know in my heart it will suck.

Anyway, I watched Beastie Boys Story last night and that was really good, but too short. They spend a lot of time up through Paul's Boutique, then a short amount of time on Check Your Head, a little longer on I’ll Communication, a little time on Hello Nasty and then they wrapped up.

Cthulhu finally in live action and in a Kristen Stewart movie? Oh that's what I've always wanted see....... Shocked

Damn, I was hoping for a long and in depth Beastie movie, that's disappointing but I know I'll still check it out. I'm a lifelong fan, I can't quit them now.

Smokey and the Bandit (1977) - Keepin on with my classic Burt movies. Cool

Dude, Where's My Car? (2000) - Hadn't seen this title in years but still remembered nearly all of it. Not exactly laugh out loud funny anymore but it's a stoner classic, so it served its purpose.

The Breakfast Club (1985) - Has aged well and holds up much better than nearly all of Hughes other 80's directed movies.

Extraction: Great action movie starring Chris Hemsworth. The action in this movie is pretty damn good. After the movie, I looked up the director and it turned out it's his first movie as director and he's actually a stuntman from various huge movies. Explains why the action was so good.

Summer School (1987) - An 80's classic with a good cast that never stops being a fun watch. Cool

Warrior (2011) - A good fighting movie with characters who all seem to hate each other but rarely interact. Not one of my favorite Hardy movies.
