Movies You've Watched Recently Empty Movies You've Watched Recently

Post by GrooThePerverted 12/9/2014, 12:07 pm

I've watched several movies over the last week, which is surprising for me.  My attention span usually prevents me from doing it as I get distracted easily.  But now that I have a decent computer I can stream my VUDU movies on my PC, and just have it in the background for when I occasionally check emails or whatever.

Just watched the following over the last week:

Dawn of the Apes (Excellent!)
Let's Be Cops (it's alright. Best parts were in the trailer)
Edge of Tomorrow (really enjoyed it, although it seemed to be a bit long)
22 Jump Street (hilarious)
Double Indemnity (really good.  Never seen it before).

Gonna watch a couple Golden Age movies next.  Vertigo and Rear Window.

Currently watching Ride Along. The whole movie so far is just Ice Cube fucking with the other guy. Good lord, what a shitty movie. It's not even funny.

I watched The Equilizer a little bit ago, easily Denzel's best since Man on Fire. THAT was the Denzel that I've been missing. I thought it was a great throwback to 80s action movies where one guy would take out an entire family of mobsters and this time it's the Russian mob! Who doesn't love to hate Russians? I know it's always fun for me to see them die in creative ways and Denzel gets very creative. Yes, Chloe's role is small but she is the catalyst for the entire movie and her role didn't need to be bigger. I was very impressed by this and wish someone would have told me how good it was. It's definitely not for everyone but it's definitely for me.

I just finished watching the South Korean flick, I Saw The Devil. Pretty damn good. Graphic in a few places, so not for the faint of heart.

Watched Gone Girl last night. Damn! Was not what I expected at all. In my mind, it was completely different movie than what I had just saw. Amazing! Great cast and performances. Awesome story with a lot of twists and turns that just keeps you wondering. It was a pretty long movie but I liked it and never got bored even for a minute of it. I think this will need it's own thread. Recommended!

Just wrapped up Nightbreed: Director's Cut....so damned good. Wish they'd adapt this into a tv series on cable. That world was too damned big and full of characters for one movie.

Watched Let's Be Cops and Into The Storm last night

Let's Be Cops was pretty funny and features possibly the least annoying Rob Riggle performance

Into The Storm is basically Twister for the next generation

Well then no sense wasting 90 minutes of my life, I have nothing to look forward to in this movie now. I mean a tornado movie that doesn't star Bill Paxton or give me the opportunity to watch SWC die? Pass.

Reaffirming what you already know, I apparently downloaded Into the Storm on the 16th so I just went ahead and watched it. Didn't suck nearly as much as I'd expected from those trailers. SWC wasn't featured enough to be a wet blanket so she didn't grate. I was really bummed that they kept by beautiful Alycia down in a dark hole only being shot from the side and at a distance. Sure the found footage works at some points but not always and the way that entire sequence was shot annoyed the hell out of me.

Richard Armitage is a total bad ass, so I thought that he might stat fighting the twisters as they touched down but I was robbed of this!!!! His most heroic moment was saving SWC TWICE! Damn you Armitage! Damn you!!!!!!!

The visuals were pretty cool though and there were a few sequences that felt like nods to Twister so it was a little more enjoyable in that aspect. Don't think I'd watch it again anytime soon but it didn't totally suck.

I watched Frozen last night. I don't get the big deal. Plus, Anna (voiced by Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell) is the main character so why do I hear Elsa Elsa Elsa all the time?

I'm happy KB has Frozen assets though, make that Disney money

Finally got around to watching Prometheus last night.

A little predictable, but I quite enjoyed it, which is something I wasn't expecting. The trailers/initial viral ad campaign did nothing for me, so I took me a while to want to watch it.

This is a killer fan edit that I DL'd right after the DVD came out, where a fan took all of the deleted scenes and edited them into the movie according to their script sequencing and that edit is so much better than the theatrical cut. Until that extended cut is released I refuse to buy the BD.

That one I actually got over at Kick-Ass but usually for the fan edits I can only find them after I've heard about em and know what to search for, but I don't know of any sites that are straight edit sourced.

Movies You've Watched Recently Empty Re: Movies You've Watched Recently

Post by Rusty 1/6/2015, 10:31 pm

Just watched Crossroads ('86 film). Downloaded it in HD from iTunes last night. Don;t do that too often, but there's a slew of flicks from the 80's/90's (my childhood) that probably won't see the light of day on Blu-Ray, so digital HD is my best bet.

Had some pretty adult themes for something I use to watch when I was 10-11 years old (racism, sex, underage prostitution) - not that I picked up on any of that back then, because, guitars. Still, the mature content definitely holds up over the years, and makes it still watchable, enjoyable and relevant all these years later. Despite knowing the basics, it felt like I was watching a completely different movie - in a good way.

Whiplash with JK Simmons and Miles Teller. That is one brutal trip for a movie about jazz drumming. At one point it felt like Vern Schillinger was emerging in Simmons performance as Teller's teacher. And people can say what they want about Miles Teller but that kid has got talent. Give him the right material and he's gonna do exactly what you need for that performance. While this is by no means a perfect movie the performance of Simmons and Teller are why you should see Whiplash. I don't know how much of that drumming was actually Teller which looked to be the majority of the time at least, but it was god damned impressive.

I heard good things about this. Going through Teller's filmography on Wiki, I have not seen a single thing he's in - but I like JK Simmons.

Post by WyldeMan 1/11/2015, 10:03 am

For the first time ever just saw Monkey Bone on HBO. I've seen Bridgett Fonda's movies pretty regularly over the years so I didn't notice that she no longer acts. She was everywhere in the 90s, beautiful and talented and somehow I did not even notice that she has not acted in the last 14 years. I guess it's cause they show stuff like Point of No Return, Lake Placid, Jackie Brown and Singles on such a constant rotation that I wasn't even realizing nothing post 2000 was ever showing up. I looked into what happened and all I could find was that she was in a pretty serious car accident in 2003 but it made no mention of injuries beyond a vertebrae being injured. I wonder why she so suddenly gave it all up while her father and aunt continue to show up all the time. Wish she'd at least come back to tv...

I thought the same thing a few weeks back whilst watching Jackie Brown. She looked great in that. Did the same thing. Jumped online too see what she'd been up to. She'd only done a handful of movies after it, and of those, I think Lake Placid would have been the only one I saw.

Monkeybone is Brendan Fraser, so I wouldn't have watched that.

It didn't take long for me to realize why I hadn't seen the movie in it's 14 years of release until now. I probably could have kept on waiting...

From what I could find, Fonda chose her family over her career. Saw a picture of her now at 50.....looks the same as she did on the banks of Lake Placid. You'd think enough time had passed that she'd at least be interested but I guess it makes sense, its not like she was being offered the greatest of roles.

I forgot to tell you guys that I checked out P.C.U. on HBO Saturday but as it turned out it was not a hi-def transfer but just a standard 480p version being touted as HD.

Just finished with A Most Violent Year, and it was not at all what I'd been hoping or expecting after the long wait. I don't know if its cause I tried to stay mostly blind on this after the initial trailer but considering the subject matter and the title I was expecting oh I don't know, a little more violence than a couple of truck jackings. I spent two hours waiting for gangsters to come out and play instead of just being talked about but they never do. Chastain was criminally wasted here as she was clearly the only interesting character onscreen. She captivates and steals the show, Oscar does not and has never done that for me. Chastain's presence was so powerful you kept wanting them to focus on the actual gangster in the film but it never went there. She's kept on the back burner and used very little. Instead of a gangster film worthy of the likes of Scorcese like I'd been expecting from all the rave review, what we got was a slow burning drama with a crime element, but this is by no means a gangster film.

Dune, for the first time ever. Been hearing about it since I was a kid but it just never aired on cable and so I never saw it until I finally decided to download. I really liked it and it was tripping me out just how much of the Twin Peaks cast from six years later was established in that movie. Really liked the mythos and the world, seems like there was a lot of potential for more films or a really cool cable series today.

The Spierig Brothers’ Predestination starring Ethan Hawke might just be one of the weirdest fucking movies I have ever seen. I'm talking about a real mind fuck of a sci-fi trip. My mind is still having a hell of a time trying to grasp this one and I watched it a week ago...

Not really sure but it solidified Scarlett as the next big female action star and Hollywood threw every action role at her, before she landed on her potential franchise in Ghost in the Shell, that's right, they're fast tracking it with Scarlett.

John Wick, and what a god damned good movie. Keanu is a complete bad ass and very clearly did almost all of his own stunts and fighting. It was such a brutal movie and yet satisfying to watch the man exact his revenge for what they did. Thomas Sadoski shows up to offer comedic relief at the exact right moment after a massacre of 14 guys in under 2 minutes and that was just the beginning of John's path. But he wasn't the only great cameo, there was Willem Dafoe, Adrienne Palicki and even David Patrick Kelly whom I haven't seen since the 90s! He looks so old now and his trademark voice has changed. But anyways, I stopped counting but when all is said and done John Wick racks up a body count north of 70. I've never seen Keanu play such a brutal bad ass and I am really looking forward to more work from him like this.

Keanu and Denzel both had a great 2014 in terms of a comeback for their careers via movies about dormant killers reactivated to right a terrible wrong after many years. This concept is paying off in spades for guys like these.

I watched it too. Awesome as hell! I was impressed by the action scenes and the gun fights. Very quick reflex in the way he handles his weapons and with such great accuracy, it's different and I've never seen anything like that in other action movies. Adrianne was awesome as an assassin too but sadly she was against John put she put a hell of a fight. Seeing Theon bite it gave me immense pleasure.

So, Wylde, what did you think of that dog scene? I know you don't like scenes like that. Sad

The scene with the puppy was so damned brutal though I wish I'd hit the skip, not to mention the next morning when John came too. Probably the saddest thing I've seen in a movie in a long time, thankfully I got to watch John slaughter more than 70 people on his path to vengeance.

I watched Gone Girl finally the other night. I think a certain twist was spoiled for me cause I already knew, but good movie. Fincher must love that cat, it looked beautiful in every shot. He calls out Affleck in the commentary for being unprofessional and shutting down production for 4 days because he refused to wear a Yankees hat.

Batfleck can do whatever he wants, he's Batfleck and it's not like Fincher isn't a cunt himself.

Gone Girl.

Beautifully shot.

Solid cast, even Tyler Perry was good. But Rosamund and the actress who played Go were the standouts.

The Blurred Lines chick clearly was hired because of her huge tits.

She played the mistress and was annoying.

With that said, this could've been cut down by 30 mins.

But well, it's Fincher.

The Blurred Lines chick is insanely hot! I can't say I blame Nick. Great movie with some surprising twists. Bitch be crazy!

Rosamund's Oscar nomination, truly well deserved.
