WikiLeaks: Alcohol Industry Encourages Congressional Concern About Cannabis
Is the alcohol industry is spending money to get members of Congress to pay attention to the problem of “marijuana-impaired driving”? That’s the case being made on cannabis industry website Marijuana.com, where a blogger seems to have assiduously searched the famous WikiLeaks dump of DNC e-mails for any reference to our favorite herb.
What the blogger found was in the May 24, 2016 edition of Huddle, a daily e-newsletter for Capitol Hill insiders produced by the Politico website. That issue included a paid advertisement from the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA), which reads in part:
While neutral on the issue of legalization, WSWA believes states that legalize marijuana need to ensure appropriate and effective regulations are enacted to protect the public from the dangers associated with the abuse and misuse of marijuana… In the years since the state legalized medicinal use, Colorado law enforcement officials have documented a significant increase in traffic fatalities in which drivers tested positive for marijuana… Congress should fully fund Section 4008 of the FAST Act (PL 114-94) in the FY 2017 Appropriations process to document the prevalence of marijuana impaired driving, outline impairment standards and determine driving impairment detection methods.
Apart from appearing on the WikiLeaks website, that particular issue of Huddle—with the WSWA statement—appears on InboxCart, a website that archives e-newsletters.
Interestingly, the WSWA statement does not appear with the text of that issue in the Huddle archive on Politico. It seems to have only appeared in the e-mailed version. Also only in the e-mailed version is the following text before the main subject line: “POLITICO Huddle, presented by Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America.”
In other words, the WSWA advertisement and sponsorship credit seem to have only appeared in the version sent directly to the in-boxes of Congress members and Beltway insiders.
The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, signed into law by President Obama in December, authorizes $305 billion over the next five years for highway and motor vehicle safety, public transportation and related items, according to the Federal Highway Administration. Section 4008 does in fact address “marijuana-impaired driving,” calling for the Department of Transportation to study the question.
The daily carnage on our roads and highways is indeed a critical issue. In 2015, the number of traffic fatalities in the U.S. rose to 38,300, according to the National Safety Council—after years of declining due to high oil prices and the recession (which meant fewer motorists on the roads).
But the question of “marijuana-impaired driving” is widely misunderstood.
For instance, it is true that Colorado has seen an increase in road fatalities since legalization n 2012, as well as an increase in cannabis-related driving offenses. But the increase in fatalities is consistent with the national trend, and probably related to low oil prices. The WSWA statement didn’t mention (of course) that a 2011 study found a reduction in traffic fatalities in states that had legalized medical marijuana.. This is likely because folks have been turning to legal cannabis instead of alcohol—which impairs driving far more dramatically than pot.

Not until we get a President who will change Marijuana from a Schedule 1 to a 2. After that, all the research can begin and prove what millions of users of it already know, nearly everything you've seen on movies and tv about it is utter horseshit and it's the greatest medicine ever created, only it's a natural plant. Not like the thousands of compounds and chemicals grown in tubes and experimented on animals before they get approved in pill form for the masses and then introduced in a 60 second portion of nearly every commercial dedicated to "side effects may include death" but the official message will always be Marijuana is the devil while booze and pills are much safer.

For those who follow politics, get ready to hear the name Evan McMullin a lot over the next several days. He's an ex-CIA operative who is expected to launch his Republican Presidential campaign today in an effort dedicated to stopping Donald Trump. Considering how many within his own party now want Trump out, McMullin could land the support of those in the party who oppose him.
Evan McMullin was born in Provo, Utah on April 2, 1976 to David McMullin, a computer scientist, and Lanie (Bullard) McMullin.
He graduated from Auburn High School in Auburn, Washington, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from Brigham Young University (BYU) and a Master’s of Business Administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Evan served as a Mormon missionary in Brazil and Volunteer Refugee Resettlement Officer in Amman, Jordan on behalf of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
On September 11th, 2001 Evan was in training at CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia. He completed his training and repeatedly volunteered for overseas service in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, spearheading counterterrorism and intelligence operations in some of the most dangerous places on earth.
Having completed his CIA service, in 2011, McMullin transitioned to the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he worked with companies in several industries, including technology, energy, consumer goods, biotech, industrials and real estate on capital raising projects and mergers and acquisitions.
In 2013, McMullin joined the House Committee on Foreign Affairs as a senior advisor and later became the chief policy director of the House Republican Conference.
He declared his candidacy for President of the United States on August 8, 2016, saying “In a year where Americans have lost faith in the candidates of both major parties, it’s time for a generation of new leadership to step up. It’s never too late to do the right thing, and America deserves much better than either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton can offer us. I humbly offer myself as a leader who can give millions of disaffected Americans a better choice for President.”

Not saying he has a chance but he's already being covered by my local news.
I couldn't vote Republican even if this guy did make a serious run because they're too busy banging their bibles and praising the miracles of a magic man to believe in something like Scientific proof and I can't accept them as serious people. Their platform might as well be written by Scientologists and The Dude does not abide by that bullshit. I'm not a Democrat either so not just slamming one party for the other.

Spent an hour listening to Trump lay out his economic plans for the future which are focused entirely on fossil fuels and eliminating any environmental sanctions that limit his fracking interests in the states while also giving his fellow 1%ers big tax breaks. Coal and oil are the future for America?

I know when I think of the future, renewable energy is at the top of that list but it's not even a reality to him, I believe Trump thinks solar and wind technology is a Chinese conspiracy like climate change.

Dwayne Johnson Hijacks Seth Rogen’s Game of ‘Pokemon Go’
For the follow-up to his original “Pokemon Go” parody video, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson found a new victim — Seth Rogen.
In Johnson’s latest YouTube video, Rogen is hesitant to play the mobile game for the first time but, never one to turn down a sensation, he succumbs.
“I think I’m too old to be playing it, to be honest, but it’s a sensation,” Rogen says. “I love to be part of sensations.”
On his first try the “Sausage Party” actor comes across the infamous badmouthing Pokerock. Rogen attempts to catch the little creature by throwing a pokeball at it, but the uncatchable Pokerock escapes, pelting Rogen with insults instead.
“The name’s Pokerock, b—-,” says the pokemon version of the Rock.
After Johnson repeatedly mocks the actor’s role in the upcoming film “Sausage Party” and suggests he’s a sex offender, Rogen loses his patience with the game.
“Is this why people play this game, to get mocked by some sh—y f—ing digitized version of the Rock?” Rogen asks angrily.
Too bad for Rogen, because then now-life size Pokerock wants to continue the game and decides to turn things around.
"Pokerock caught you,” Pokerock says.
The video is the latest production from Seven Bucks Digital Studios, a venture spearheaded by Johnson and his business partner and manager Dany Garcia.

16-year-old South African invents wonder material to fight drought
South Africa's worst drought in recorded history has left eight of the country's nine provinces in a state of disaster, with thousands of communities and millions of households facing water shortages.
The agricultural union Agri SA has requested over $1 billion in government subsidies to help farmers through the crisis, but a cut-price solution could soon be available -- from an unlikely source.
Johannesburg schoolgirl Kiara Nirghin, 16, recently won the Google Science Fair's Community Impact Award for the Middle East and Africa with her submission "No More Thirsty Crops."
Using orange peel and avocado skins, the precocious student created a super absorbent polymer (SAP) capable of storing reserves of water hundreds of times its own weight, forming reservoirs that would allow farmers to maintain their crops at minimal cost. The polymer has the added benefit of sustainability as it uses recycled and biodegradable waste products.
"Kiara found an ideal material that won't hurt the budget in simple orange peel, and through her research, she created a way to turn it into soil-ready water storage with help from the avocado," said Andrea Cohan, program leader of the Google Science Fair.Trial and error
The inventor says she wanted to tackle the most urgent aspect of the national crisis.
"I wanted to minimize the effect that drought has on the community and the main thing it affects is the crops," says Nirghin, of St. Martin's School. "That was the springboard for the idea."
She describes the process as "trial and error," with a lot of experimentation before alighting on the perfect formula.
"I started researching what an SAP was, and what they all had in common was a chain molecule polysaccharide," Nirghin recalls. "I found that orange peel has 64% polysaccharide and also the gelling agent pectin, so I saw it as a good (option). I used avocado skin due to the oil."
The teenager combined the skin and peel and left the mixture in the sun, where they reacted together to form the powerfully absorbent polymer.
Next steps
As a regional winner, Nirghin has been assigned a mentor from Google to work with her on developing the polymer, and hopes it could be tested in the field. She will soon discover if she is one of the tech giant's sixteen global finalists.
"If the idea was commercialized and applied to real farms and real crops I definitely think the impact that drought has on crops would be reduced," she says.
"I think it works," says Dr. Jinwen Zhang, a professor of materials engineering at Washington State University, who is developing absorbent hydrogels to address drought. "Using waste products for low-cost feedstock for large volume is definitely worth further investigation."
The teenager, whose hero is the Indian agricultural scientist M. S. Swaminathan, has many more ideas, including a proposal to dye the skins of endangered animals to discourage poaching.
"I might look into health sciences or engineering," she says of her future plans. "Something so I can improve the world."

Thomas Gibson Suspended From ‘Criminal Minds’ Over On-Set Altercation
Aaron Hotchner will be going MIA. I’ve learned that Criminal Minds star Thomas Gibson has been suspended for at least one and likely two episodes after a physical altercation with a writer-producer on the set of the CBS crime drama. (I hear the incident involved Thomas kicking the person, said to be co-executive producer Virgil Williams).
In addition to Gibson’s immediate suspension from acting on the ABC Studios/CBS TV Studios-produced show — now believed to be filming episodes 3 and 4 – I hear his Season 12 directing stint on Criminal Minds also was nixed following the incident. (Gibson has directed 6 episodes of Criminal Minds so far.) I hear Gibson has been written off the episodes during the suspension, and production on the show continues.
I hear the matter is being handled by Human Resources, with Gibson’s future status on the show under review. Deadline reached out to ABC Studios and CBS for comment on Wednesday.
I also hear this is the second similar incident for Gibson on Criminal Minds. Years ago, he allegedly pushed another producer and had to attend anger management classes but remained on the show.
Gibson is an original Criminal Minds cast member, playing Special Agent Aaron Hotchner since the series’ 2005 debut.

Coincidentally I broke my coccyx 8 years ago in the mosh pit at the amphitheater I'm going to for the show tonight, LOL. It was during the Papa Roach portion of the 11 hour multi-band show. I also saw Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Korn, Rob Zombie and Hatebreed that same day.
I used to only get mosh pit tickets but I'm too old for that much insanity now so I went with some GA tickets cause this is where I'm going and you can sit anywhere on the grass or just wander around closer to the stage if you want to stand.

In other news, Pretty wild show last night, though Manson has definitely gotten old and mostly crouched on stage or laid down kicking the speakers but as expected Corey Taylor and Slipknot fuckin tore it up and turned half the amphitheater into a massive mosh pit when Pyschosocial hit.
Corey broke had neck surgery two months back for a broken neck and he was airing footage on the screen of the surgery on the screen as he was just killing it on the vocals and flying around the stage.

Thomas Gibson Fired From 'Criminal Minds'
Thomas Gibson's time on CBS' Criminal Minds has come to an end.
"Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. Creative details for how the character's exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date," producers ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios said in a statement.
The dismissal follows news that the actor — who had been on the veteran procedural since its start — kicked a writer on-set. As of Thursday, Gibson was facing a two-episode suspension following the incident. His character was to be written out of both episodes with that now turning into being written out of the series on which he has starred for 11 seasons.
The incident occurred when Gibson was directing an episode of the drama's upcoming 12th season and had a dispute with the hour's writer, who also happened to be on set. Insiders say they got into an argument and tempers on both sides flared with Gibson said to have instinctively reacted to aggression and kicked the writer.
"I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years," Gibson said in a statement to THR on Friday. "I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won't be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have."
Gibson had been under contract for the ABC Studios/CBS Television Studios co-production for all of season 12. This was the second incident for Gibson with the series; he pushed another producer a few years ago and had to attend anger management classes, though he was not suspended.
"There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement," Gibson said in a statement to THR on Thursday. "I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and we always will."
Gibson's dismissal from the series comes as Criminal Minds was already undergoing a bit of a creative change for season 12. The series said farewell to former leading man Shemar Moore last season, and will see Paget Brewster return for season 12. Brewster was a regular on the CBS drama from seasons two through seven. She was credited as a special guest in season nine and returned last season as part of the storyline that saw star Moore exit the series after 11 seasons. To help make up for the void, the drama cast CSI: Miami grad Adam Rodriguez as a series regular. He debuts in the season 12 premiere.

You nailed it bro! Exactly how it went down, except that I've never tasted an iced latte and it was two lady friends.
Also, in case you haven't been to a metal show in awhile, fishnets, thongs and black corsets are still normal attire chosen by women of all ages and shapes . There was so much skin runnin around the whole show and at one point Manson refused to continue to the next song until bras started hitting the stage, to which they did. So obviously it wasn't too bad of a night regardless of musical quality at times.

We were on the grass on the blanket with some grass and we were surrounded by speakers and a pretty good view. But it's a rock show so people are running and moshing around everywhere at random times. Lots of drunk people acting like idiots. Plenty of injuries to watch. It's a whole spectacle.
Most of the really wild women were there for Slipknot, Manson does not have the stage presence he once did but Pit chicks get topless for any reason. I would love see Corey Taylor's other band Stone Sour cause that's way more my style but the tickets were really cheap and it was a really fun night so I can't complain.

Re: Random Thoughts
Just YouTube'd Stone Sour and listening to the song Tired. I like it a lot. Also listened to the song Through Glass. The two tracks are so different from each other. I am intrigued with this band. Thank you for introducing them to me.

You picked two great songs to start with. I always found it interesting that Corey Taylor the man behind the mask and the screaming Slipknot vocals is the same mostly mild mannered singer of Stone Sour. It's a Jekyll and Hyde thing. These two songs are the perfect example.
Stone Sour did take on more of an edge when Slipknot when on hiatus following the death of their drummer and for the most part SS has been a lot harder these last few years though they still do ballads time to time this is what you hear more often now.

YouTube videos are not showing up for me on Chrome. I just see a thing black vertical bar in the place of videos. It's happened on both my work laptop as well as home. Supwitdat?!

Actually, the forum did some weird shit to me the other day to. One post I made in the Fast 8 thread. It put my avatar and name under the post, not on the left side. Still like it now as well. Just that single post. No others.

Using Chrome as well. I was going to mention it too. I thought it was on my side only.

What I don't understand though is that while posting the videos, or even going into Edit, the videos show up as they always do. It isn't until posting that they turn into a black strip...
