Spyglass Resurrecting Ghostface in New ‘Scream’ Movie
Scream ($140 Million Worldwide Box office) 11968210
Even after the passing of Wes Craven, Ghostface continues to live on.

Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report that Gary Barber’s Spyglass Media Group is currently developing the next Scream, based on the franchise created by Craven and writer Kevin Williamson.

While Craven had directed all four Scream films before his passing, various filmmakers would get behind the camera for a television series that ran for two seasons on MTV and a third on VH1.

All four films remained canon while the series would create its own mythology. It’s unclear if the next film will continue to be canonized within Craven’s universe or be a remake, but we are hearing that, as of this writing, Williamson is not writing the screenplay.

This news isn’t all that surprising being that Spyglass is remaking Hellraiser, Dimension Films’ other property that is being written by David S. Goyer (Blade II, Batman Begins, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).

How did Spyglass land the rights? Well, as Variety previously explained, “Spyglass Media Group was re-launched as a content company in March by former MGM topper Barber, Lantern Entertainment co-presidents Andy Mitchell and Milos Brajovic and strategic investors Eagle Pictures and Cineworld Group.”

Lantern Entertainment is the company that acquired all of Dimension Films’ assets after the allegations against Harvey Weinstein put the company in bankruptcy.

New ‘Scream’ Movie From Spyglass Media Will Be Released by Paramount
Scream ($140 Million Worldwide Box office) Scream10
Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures have joined forces to co-produce the relaunch of “Scream,” sources tell Variety.

The latest installment, in which David Arquette is set to reprise his role as Deputy Dewey, will be directed by “Ready or Not” filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Additional castings to follow.

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett will work with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who are co-writing the project. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are serving as producers while creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella, are executive producing.

Targeted for release in 2021, Paramount will market and distribute the film worldwide in all media with select international territories and domestic pay 1 television being handled by Spyglass.

Principal photography is expected to begin late summer in Wilmington NC. Additional casting updates will be announced in the coming weeks.

Plot details for this installment are unknown, but past entries revolved around a masked killer terrorizing Dewey, Sidney Prescott (played  by Neve Campbell) and their group of friends.

“Scream” is a long-running genre-busting horror franchise, which generated four feature films. The movies, each directed by the late Wes Craven, went on to gross more than $600 million at the worldwide box office. Williamson wrote the original film, as well as “Scream 2” and “Scream 4.”

Spyglass is home to more than 250 film library titles, scripted and unscripted television series, including Academy Award winners “The King’s Speech” and “The Artist;” box office hits “The Upside,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “The Hateful Eight,” “Django Unchained,” “Lee Daniel’s The Butler,” “Spy Kids” and “Paddington.” They also have domestic pay 1 TV.

Courteney Cox Will Return as Gale Weathers in ‘Scream’ Reboot
Scream ($140 Million Worldwide Box office) Courte10
Courteney Cox will reprise her role as news reporter Gale Weathers in the upcoming “Scream” reboot.

Spyglass Media Group and Paramount made the announcement Friday and said filming is expected to begin later this year in Wilmington, N.C. “Ready or Not” directors Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are helming the reboot from a script by James Vanderbilt (“Murder Mystery,” “Zodiac,” “The Amazing Spider-Man”) and Guy Busick (“Ready or Not”).

David Arquette announced in May that he would reprise his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley in the upcoming reboot. Plot details for the reboot are under wraps.

The original “Scream” debuted in 1996 with Neve Campbell starring as Sidney Prescott, the target of the Ghostface killer, who had a look inspired by the Edvard Munch painting “The Scream.” Cox and Arquette co-starred in the four-film franchise, directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. Bob Weinstein’s Dimension Films released all four films, which combined for $608 million in worldwide box office with sequels released in 1997, 2000 and 2011.

Williamson and Chad Villella are executive producing with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak serving as producers.

Bettinelli-Olpin, Gillett and Villella operate as the production company Radio Silence. They said in a statement, “We can’t imagine ‘Scream’ without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the ‘Scream’ saga!”

Neve Campbell is Back as Sidney Prescott in Spyglass and Paramount’s ‘Scream’ Relaunch!
Scream ($140 Million Worldwide Box office) Scream11
It’s not a Scream movie without Neve Campbell and we’re excited to exclusively report today that the actress has signed on to reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott in Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures’ upcoming relaunch of the Scream film franchise!

Campbell, of course, played the franchise’s leading lady in all four of Wes Craven’s Scream movies, and it’d be downright impossible to imagine Ghostface’s return without her.

Campbell joins previously announced legacy cast members David Arquette and Courteney Cox who will return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, as well as new cast members Jack Quaid (“The Boys”), Melissa Barrera (“In The Heights”) and Jenna Ortega (“You”).

Scream is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock).

Radio Silence said in a statement today, “We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”

Neve Campbell herself gave her blessing to the project: “After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”

The production will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Franchise creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella, are executive producing with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak serving as producers.

Spyglass and Paramount Pictures will release the film worldwide on January 14, 2022.

Cool! Wouldn't be the same without Neve Campbell, right? I mean, she is the franchise.

Wasn't it her cousin who tried to kill her in Scream 4? Played by Hayden Panettiere?

Sorry Abe, I only just saw this post.

Everybody is always trying to kill poor Sydney Prescott including a few crazy members of her own family but while Hayden was in Scream 4, she was a victim. Emma Roberts was Sydney's psychotic cousin and one of the killers.

Also, some blurry set photos are starting to show up all over Twitter so Scream 5 is officially filming and appears to have been for about a month now.

Drew Barrymore decided to have some fun this week on her show and bring back Casey Becker from Scream and a few others.

‘Scream’ Reboot Gets Official Title as Production Wraps
Scream ($140 Million Worldwide Box office) Scream12
It’s almost time to scream again. Production has wrapped on the “Scream” reboot, which is officially, and appropriately, titled “Scream.”

On Wednesday, “Scream” writer Kevin Williamson revealed the title of the horror franchise’s fifth film and announced that production has officially wrapped in North Carolina.

“Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote ‘Scream’ and Wes Craven brought it to life, I could not have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you, the fans. I’m excited for you to return to Woodsboro and get really scared again,” Williamson wrote on Instagram. “I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making. I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team and incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart. See you in theatres January 2022.”

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Marley Shelton are returning for the new film, which also features Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid and Dylan Minnette.

“Ready or Not” directors Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are helming the reboot from a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

Paramount has set a Jan. 14, 2022, release date.

It does cause confusion but in such cases, I just include the release year in the films such as when I'm dicussing Halloween '78 or Halloween '18. Though I definitely get where you're coming from, if it's a direct continuation of the original franchise with returning original actors then just slap a damn number at the end and call it Scream 5.

But the only question that really matters is to me is, can they just bring back Stu and Billy to totally mind fuck the audience when the masks come off at the end????  Razz

I expected Sidney to break after Scream 3 but she never did and looked like she was pushing a stroller on her run in the trailer. But who knows, maybe motherhood broke her.

They've built a Cult of Personality around Ghostface, so it will probably be a network of Ghostface worshipping Millennial serial killers obsessed with Woodsboro's bloody history and Sidney's role in all of it, she's basically a whackjob's muse.

Too many of the original victims are still alive for a five film horror franchise, Sid and the gang haven't lost anybody of import since Randy way back in Scream 2.

I say it's time to cull the herd.

This was good. I liked it way more than I thought I would. It was very meta and the twists were there as always. Never seen the lead female before but she's beautiful and she did a great job.

How would you guys rank these movies? I don't think I remember some of them to be honest. lol
