Fuck! The recently rebuilt engine in my Impala has decided to re-shit itself. Time to bite the bullet and buy a new one (engine, not car).
Money I do not have. Shitfuck!

You told me before, but I can't remember, wasn't it a 283? Can't recall if you were running a big block or not.
Re: Random Thoughts
Small block. 327. Spent $3k getting it rebuilt, because I wanted to keep it original. Stupid idea. Should have just bought a 350 crate engine to start with.

What happened to the rebuild, throw a rod or was the work not done right?

Not too sure. A couple months after it was done, the rockers started making a lot of noise. Initially thought the rocker studs had come loose, so we tightened up but that didn't help. Come to find out that some of the new lifters weren't getting enough oil. Oil pressure was checked and is fine, so somewhere the oil isn't making its way up top. The lifters were replaced. Half fixed it, but 2 lifters are still not getting enough oil. Theory is one or more of the cam bearings has shit itself, but didn't get checked yet. Once I heard that I said "fuck it" and threw in the towel. Not wasting any more money on it.
I can buy a replacement 350 crate engine direct from GM for the same, or even less, than a rebuild.

I don't know how it is down there but around here I can't throw a rock without hitting a 350. The crates engines are everywhere which makes replacement parts a dime a dozen but I can't imagine it's anything like that around your area.

Not too different from here. They're in every second "classic" car. Parts are plentiful. They were actually released here in local GM (Holden) cars back in the day.

Riiight, forgot about Holdens. Never been to Asutralia so had no idea what the car culture is like if they were common everywhere down there or if it would be like me finding a vintage Jag in the middle of Washington state.

You guys ever clean your desktops/laptops? I cleaned up my desktop computer using this Electric Duster. Practically took it all apart and the keyboard and now it's good as new. SO MUCH DUST!

Upside down and vigorously, sounds about right.
Re: Random Thoughts
Recently heard about a classmate of mine who died a few weeks back. He was 30 and left behind and wife and a 2 year old because he was still the same degenerate I knew in high school that always chose the needle over anything else. I was surprised he made it to 21 but I'd heard he had cleaned his life up, though his death contradicts that. I've lost track of all the kids I went to school with that have died. My graduating class was around 240 people and I know more than 20 of them are already dead. Really hard to reconcile how such a small town continues to have such a high death rate. Seems like every few weeks there is another name being painted on the old memorial barn, where the dead get remembered in my town. It's both sad and just ridiculous, way too much death around my small town.

That's sad! Damn! 20 is a fairly high number. I'm assuming they're all around your age which means they probably didn't die of natural causes. Why are they messed up? And how the heck did you make it out ok and not wind up like them?

I'm sure it's probably more like 23 or 24 but honestly I don't want to flip through my yearbooks looking for the dead, i'd prefer just to keep going. None were of natural causes, most were due to completely avoidable circumstances except maybe 4 or 5 from car accidents and a few murders and a lot of suicides. We live in a small country town with not a whole lot going on ever where it rains 9 months out of the year. Depression is a way of life and a lot of people just check out. I wouldn't say that I'm ok, but I am alive so there's that.

Yeah, nobody's really ok because everyone is always going through something no matter how big or small. You just gotta make smart choice, that's all there is to it but easier said then done I guess.
9 months of rain? Dude, go to Hawaii or something and see the sun. Take a vaca! I took mine last year to Dubai so I don't know when my next long distance vaca is going to be.

When we were just kids this was our anthem cause we thought it kicked ass but at the time none of us really knew how predictive it'd turn out to be. So many friends lost along the way...
Re: Random Thoughts
Oh man. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friends. Knowing that many who have passed away... damn.
I've only known one friend who passed away when I was in high school. He was the first friend I made on my block when we first moved here. We were barely moved in and he comes riding his bike over and introduces himself. I was only four, my brother was 7, and this kid was maybe ten or eleven. So he rides over on this red bike and asks if we can come out and play. We spend the next few years just going crazy on our block. Playing basketball, freeze tag, dungeons and dragons, and looking at my first nudey magazine.
Fast forward ten years and we are all still friends. I'm in high school, my brother is heading off to college, and one day, out of the blue, one of our friends comes over and says he passed away last night. He was epileptic and had a seizure. His funeral was unreal.
I still miss you, Richard Schweiger, you crazy bastard.

I attended my first funeral for a friend when I was 11 years old, unfortunately I'd attended four more by the time I was 16. I think we averaged one a year for most of high school but shortly after graduation it was at least 2 a year. I learned at a relatively young age the most dangerous question you can torture yourself with is "why them?" it comes up if you've ever lost someone close to you or in front of you, it's an unavoidable thought but it's one that can haunt you, I know it did for me.
Re: Random Thoughts
I've been watching the YouTube channel Geek and Sundry and on this channel, Wil Wheaton hosts a show called TableTop where he plays board games with random people (celebrities or other YouTubers). Very entertaining and some of them even made me purchase some board games. I've been playing a bunch with my peeps lately. We have game nights every so often now to wind down on weekends. Really fun stuff.
Games I recommend: Ticket to Ride (original or Europe variations and expansions), Zombie Dice, Tokaido, Munchkin, and Pandemic (with On the Brink expansion).

If I had to really think about it, the last time I actually touched a physical game board besides Chess, I was probably 12 I think. Board games just fell off the map and I don't think I've gone to a single house where anybody broke out a board game since before Y2K. It's cool that you guys still do that, I stopped playing Chess cause I couldn't even find anybody willing to play.
Re: Random Thoughts
Chess is pretty fun but I find it too stressful. LOL Chess is not a "relaxing" game.
As for the board games, I just started getting into them in February when that hobby shop opened up near me. The only board games I really knew about were Monopoly (all-time favorite), Sorry, Trouble, Clue, etc. I had no idea board games after, as you mentioned, Y2K or really post-2005 were so intricate. Some of the games I saw didn't look fun at all. I thought "Cards? What is this?" but then after I started playing, I found out they really are pretty fun and the people who play them are not a minority.
We played Ticket to Ride for hours last weekend. One game, multiple sessions. We are having a blast and people are calling me asking when we are all getting together again for game night. Board games aren't for everyone, though, so I can see why many are skeptical about them.

Chess is pure strategy, I loved it but it is about as relaxing as a backroom game of Texas Hold Em.
Sounds cool, none of the people I tend to spend my time with really seem like they'd be board game people, so I don't think I'd be starting that, but I can float it during Poker night Thursday and see if anybody spits their whiskey out.
What is Ticket to Ride? Never heard of it.
Re: Random Thoughts
Ticket to Ride is a game where you are a train tycoon and you race against other players to claim routes connecting cities on a given map. You get things called "Destination Tickets" where they list two cities and your goal is to also claim routes that link the two cities together. You score points depending on how many routes you can claim and you get big bonuses for completing the destination tickets and penalties if you do not. It really takes about five minutes to learn and then you can just play for hours and hours.
It's my favorite board game right now. I have not yet played Settlers of Catan but I hear that game is really good, too.
Wil Wheaton told Felicia Day to "eat a dick" when she screwed him in one of their games. Haha Wil was so stressed.

That is definitely not what I was expecting Ticket to Ride to be about. A train game? That's crazy, lol.

I just figured it was a board game that offered dirty rewards to those with a successful dice roll.

Absolutely, the landscapes change everywhere you go. I live right on the coast, I can see the water from my roof while Groo lives on the opposite side of the state. In between the landscape changes so much you feel like you're driving through a different state. This summer I plan on doing a lot of hiking and hopefully coming back with some great pics which I will share.
Re: Random Thoughts
There are seriously going to have .porn and .sucks domain names???????? They registered so many porn names in .dot that porn needed it's own dot com? That's both amusing and disturbing.
Taylor Swift is one step ahead of porn peddlers who want to use her name to hawk their wares.
Taylor snatched up the domain name, TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult. The move comes a couple of months before domain names with .porn and .sucks becomes available to the public.
Taylor's not the only one who has scooped up the domain names, according to CNN.com ... Microsoft has done it as well.
There's a way for high-profile folks and companies to monitor names people want to register ... on the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ... ICANN.

Jon Hamm Criminal Charges for Decades Old Violent Fraternity Hazing Surface
“Mad Men” star Jon Hamm was charged with hazing in a violent incident that led to the permanent dissolution of a fraternity at the University of Texas while he was in school there more than two decades ago.
According to court documents obtained by the Associated Press, Hamm was accused in 1991 of punching and paddling pledge Mark Allen Sanders and setting the young man’s pants on fire as part of an initiation ritual at Sigma Nu fraternity.
The then 20-year-old Sanders filed a lawsuit against members of the fraternity that led to criminal charges against Hamm and four other Sigma Nu brothers. The AP reports Hamm received deferred adjudication for his hazing charge, which meant he completed probation, but was not formally convicted. A separate assault charge was dropped.
Sanders’ lawsuit was ultimately dismissed in 1993, but not before UT’s Sigma Nu chapter permanently disbanded.
