John Wick: Chapter Two (February 10)
Lionsgate has confirmed plans to produce a sequel to 2014’s critically-acclaimed breakout hit “John Wick,” it was announced today by Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, Co-Chairmen of the Theatrical Motion Pictures Group. Keanu Reeves along with directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski as well as screenwriter, Derek Kolstad are set to return for the sequel. The film will be released through Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment and will be produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk, who produced the first film.
In the follow up to last year’s adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption thriller, legendary hit man John Wick is back.
“With such tremendous fan and critical support for ‘John Wick,’ we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell,” said Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions. “We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.”
Jason Constantine and Eda Kowan at Lionsgate will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

Me too, though I'm just happy that they will continue to explore this awesome new world they've built.

Co-Director Chad Stahelski Will Be Back To Helm JOHN WICK 2 On His Own
Last year's John Wick was one of the best action movies in recent memory. Defying all expectations, the Keanu Reeves starrer was met with near universal acclaim from audiences and critics alike, and certainly looks like a cult-favorite in the making. It also had a decent run at the box office - managing to do enough business to justify a sequel in Lionsgate's eyes.
The film not only helped relaunch Keanu Reeves' career, but also put former stuntmen Chad Stahelski & David Leitch on the map as directors to watch. Now, Collider claim the former is set to return for John Wick 2 - news that will no doubt relieve fans of the first movie. Back in April, both directors were rumored to have been eyed by Warner Bros for an upcoming DCEU film.
While that never panned out, Collider revealed that the pair have been offered "a number of other projects" recently - so perhaps the rumors were true. The site didn't confirm why Leitch isn't returning too (he'll only be back as an EP), but hinted that he has something else lined up...
John Wick 2 currently doesn't have a release date.

I just hope characters at the Hotel get a little more screen time if they don't eventually do a prequel.

Well I just hope it isnt in the Taken vein. Wyck is cool character but her needs a completely different setup story. I will miss Ms Perkins tho.

That was my only concern, literally the only thing I don't want to see again. Even if in Wick's world one puppy death does end in 50 human deaths, I still say no more puppies!

That scene was awesome, I was more amused because as a fan of The Newsroom a surprise cameo from Thomas Sadoski made for a nice break in a bleak film.
I'm hoping Wick 2 is going to be a prequel because I all want to know more about those great characters from the first film and Ms. Perkins and Charon needed way more screen time. All Keanu needs to do is shave and boom, prequel face!

John Wick 2 Loses Co-Director David Leitch To Charlize Theron Spy Movie
2014's John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves as a retired hitman out for vengeance, was a nice sleeper-hit that proved Keanu still had some star-power. It earned $78M at the worldwide box office, against a $20M budget. The action-thriller was co-directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski. Both were set to return for the sequel, which begins filming next month in Budapest and Berlin, but Leitch has just announced that he is leaving the project to go work on The Coldest City, a spy movie starring Charlize Theron. Now Chad Stahelski will have to captain the John Wick 2 ship all by himself.
First word of Leitch's departure from the project came a few weeks ago from Collider and now it has been confirmed by the trades.

Common to Play Villain in ‘John Wick 2’
On the heels of wrapping WB’s “Suicide Squad,” Common has been cast as the villain in Lionsgate’s “John Wick 2” opposite Keanu Reeves, TheWrap has learned.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Common is expected to play the muscle for a female crime lord who comes after Reeves’ ex-hitman.
Chad Stahelski returns to direct the sequel, but he’ll be on his own this time, as his collaborator David Leitch is preparing to direct the Charlize Theron thriller “Coldest City” for Focus.
Basil Iwanyk is producing “John Wick 2,” which starts shooting this week.
Common recently starred in Ava DuVernay‘s critically acclaimed drama “Selma” but he also has a bunch of macho movies under his belt, including “Terminator Salvation,” “Run All Night,” “Wanted,” “American Gangster,” “Smokin’ Aces” and “Street Kings.”

LOL!
Common is okay, but the previous film was loaded with great character actors.
Was hoping they would continue on that vein, bringing in another one.
Keanu has gotten better, really enjoyed him as John Wick.

‘John Wick 2’ Fills Out Cast, Old Favorites Return
Keanu Reeves’ hitman John Wick is making some new friends and catching up with some familiar faces in the sequel to the sleeper hit action pic. Ruby Rose (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter), Riccardo Scamarcio (Burnt) and Peter Stormare (Fargo) join the already announced Common and returning Ian McShane in John Wick 2. Also coming back from the first movie are John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynahan, Tom Sadowski, and Lance Reddick.
Filming just started in New York and will decamp to Rome in the new year. As with John Wick, Basil Iwanyk produces through his Thunder Road banner along with David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, who also directs. Stahelski directed the original film, about an ex-hitman who is brought out of retirement as he seeks revenge on a group of gangsters who took everything from him. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Derek Kolstad (John Wick) wrote the screenplay. The film will be released through Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment. Lionsgate International will be selling the picture internationally. The original grossed $130.9 million worldwide last fall.

If Lance Reddick is returning, how is this not a prequel?

Laurence Fishburne Reunites With Keanu Reeves for ‘John Wick 2’
There’s been a “Matrix” reunion in “John Wick 2” — Laurence Fishburne has joined Keanu Reeves for a small role in the film.
Fishburne was photographed this week in Brooklyn by Gothamist on the set of the Lionsgate production.
Fishburne’s reps confirmed that the actor was shooting a cameo.
Chad Stahelski, who co-directed the original with David Leitch, is helming the sequel. Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk is returning to produce.
Lionsgate began selling foreign markets for the sequel at Cannes. The original movie grossed $43 million domestically and $35 million internationally following its launch a year ago.
“John Wick” also starred Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo and Willem Dafoe. Reeves played a retired hitman seeking vengeance for the killing of his puppy, a gift from his late wife.
Moynahan, Leguizamo and McShane are reprising their roles. Common has joined the cast as the villain along with Peter Stormare. Lionsgate has not yet set a release date for “John Wick 2.”
Reeves and Fishburne starred in all three “Matrix” films as Neo and Morpheus. Stahelski and Leitch played stunt doubles for Reeves in the trilogy.

No you're right, my memory was that both Wire alums died but I was wrong, Reddick survived the first film.

Yeah, I see it. I didn't know but it was a nice surprise for me. The stunt looks just as good as the first from the trailer too. I think he might have a lot more enemies in this one.

Lionsgate Keen On A Third “John Wick”
One of the few bright moments in a weekend of politics and nastiness on social media was that of the first trailer release of “John Wick: Chapter 2”. The preview for the Keanu Reeves-led retired assassin revenge thriller with its perfect poe-faced yet tongue-in-cheek tone has fuelled understandable excitement for the follow-up to the 2014 film.
Turns out though there’s likely more to get excited over. The film’s director Chad Stahelski spoke with Collider over the weekend and says that the studio, Lionsgate, are as excited as everyone else – so much so they’ve already discussed a third movie in the series:Coming up with the right idea is key which is why “John Wick: Chapter 2” wasn’t in production sooner – they had to wait until they had an idea that worked:“The studio has asked us to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something. Winston’s [Ian McShane] is a big part of the next one, so is Lance Reddick. We’ve got some ideas.”“When it came to coming up with a story idea, we had like ten bad ideas, and then we were like, ‘f–k it,’ what would have just happened the next day. Once we stopped worrying about ourselves, it was fun. Is it as good as the first one? I don’t know, that’s personal opinion. Did we go better in some ways? Yes. Did we explore the character more? Yes. It’s better, I think, technically. Is the enjoyment better? Yes, it’s there, but it’s completely different.”
