Fought against the Avengers? There was no real fight from any of them in that airport battle.

Vulture? Played defense. Mysterio? Fought against the robots and mostly played defense.

Endgame? That was just embarrassing. No hand to hand combat with any real villain yet. If he faced Tom Hardy's Venom and managed to win, then I would give him some credit. Tobey is way beyond Tom's level in both experience and of course maturity.

Neither are very experienced Spidey's and Doc Ock should kill them both.

They might as well introduce Miles Morales when the Scarlett Witch opens the multiverse in Doctor Strange 2 because Marvel's future is dedicated to diversity and they're killing off the old guards one by one to bring in the new.

Either Marvel takes a fresh stab at their own Parker or they introduce Morales but I do not see Holland's Spidey making it out of Phase 4.

I think Holland is here to stay unless he wants out. He loves the character and it's a great gig. He could take it as far as Jackman did with Wolverine.

Holland is a headache who has proven time and again that he's incapable of not spoiling his own movies and pissing off everybody from the director to the studio.

They'd probably be happy to be rid of him after this movie, especially since he wasn't their choice in the first place. With the introduction of the multiverse, they've got many new options now.

Because people can never be trusted and the fact that some people believe otherwise, is exactly why there are constant spoiler leaks. Razz

Now that Disney owns everything in house, the introduction of The Multiverse is how they're bringing in the X-Men, Fantastic Four, multiple Peter Parkers and everybody else. They've been teasing it in the movies and Disney+ shows for awhile now, especially in Loki.

I will never like Tobey's Peter Parker, so I hope he comes in and gets killed by the Green Goblin since the Spiderverse has way too many Parker's to be stuck with that tool bag again.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Official Poster Teases Doc Ock, Green Goblin & More
Sony has dropped the first official poster for Spider-Man: No Way Home, lighting up the web with several clues lurking in the background for the upcoming follow-up to 2019’s $1.13B global grosser, Spider-Man: Far From Home. And as the official Spider-Man: No Way Home Twitter feed suggests: Go ahead, zoom in on those details.

Anticipation is sky-high on the latest installment that sees Tom Holland reprise his role as the friendly neighborhood webslinger. When the first trailer dropped in August, it racked up an-all time record of 355.5M views worldwide in its first 24 hours, blowing away the previous record holder, Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame.

No Way Home is expected to go where no other pic in the Spidey franchise has ever gone, interweaving with the Disney/Marvel Cinematic Universe’s grand multiverse plan. It also will see the return of Alfred Molina’s villain Doc Ock from the 2004 Tobey Maguire-starrer Spider-Man 2.

The poster released today sees Holland’s Spider-Man surrounded by Doc Ock’s tentacles while in the background there’s an image of the Green Goblin, Willem Dafoe’s villain who last appeared in Spider-Man 2. The bolt of lightning could be a nod to Jamie Foxx’s Electro (from The Amazing Spider-Man 2). And, a cloud of what looks to be sand could signal the reappearance of Spider-Man 3’s Sandman (Thomas Hayden Church).

The logline reads that for the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a superhero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home starts overseas rollout on December 15 and debuts in North America on December 17, exclusively in movie theaters.

That's probably why this movie has tapped into the Spiderverse and we'll likely have three Spideys..

It's going to be wall to wall CGI and an endless stream of cameos setting up sequels and tv shows five years from now.

You think so? I'm thinking this might be Holland's last Spider-Man movie. I don't know the details of his contract but unless it's cameos, it might be his last movie.

I don't think he's done just yet, I feel like Holland got a few more Spidey movies in him before Miles Morales inevitably takes over for him. As far as I know, Holland completed his contract with No Way Home but last I read, Marvel was offering him big money to stick around.

I know he's got the Uncharted franchise coming up but let's be honest it will never even come close to touching Spidey in terms of box office and all his other movies have failed to do much of anything for him.

IMO, Holland would be a fool to think he's outgrow Peter Parker at this stage of his career unless he wants to follow his Spidey predecessors and disappear entirely from the mainstream after leaving the franchise.

If he decides to keep going, it would be nice to see Parker attend college for the next three maybe and see him juggle that life and being Spider-Man. I think it's time to grow up and change the tone a little. Fucking Disney needs to realize this. This is one of the main reasons Holland's Spidey can't compete with Tobey's trilogy or Garfield's.

Very true. It was a mistake to take on another popular character as Drake but I hope it goes well for him. After Spider-Man, I thought he'd pick independent movies. The Devil All The Time was different and he was good in that.

‘Spider-Man’ Producer Amy Pascal Teases New Sony-Disney Tom Holland Webslinger Trilogy
Spider-Man: No Way Home (Sony to Release Extended Cut In Theaters) ($1.8 Billion Worldwide Box Office) - Page 2 Tom-ho11
Spider-Man producer and former Sony Pictures Boss Amy Pascal says that a new Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man trilogy with Tom Holland is in the early works, one that keeps the Culver City lot and Disney’s Marvel working together beyond their already contracted Spider-Man: No Way Home which is poised to be a massive Christmas blockbuster, and further expand on the MCU’s multiverse plans.

“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel — [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” said Pascal in an interview with Fandango. “We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies…Yes, Marvel and Sony are going to keep going together as partners.”

Sony and Disney/Marvel had no comment about any continued talks when reached. We hear from sources that while both studio have had a great working relationship of late, there’s no current confirmation of a trilogy at this point in time. Note, in order to keep the Spider-Man train running, new deals would need to be reached with Holland, Zendaya, and director Jon Watts.

In the wake of Spider-Man: Far From Home becoming Sony’s top grossing movie ever with $1.13 billion worldwide, the Culver City studio and Disney were at loggerheads during the summer of 2019 over the terms of another sequel. No Way Home almost didn’t happen. Eventually, emotions calmed, with Disney taking a 25% co-financing and equity stake in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Holland and Watts staying on board. In addition another point of that new deal included Spider-Man appearing in one more Disney/Marvel movie.

If the Thanksgiving box office was asleep, Spider-Man: No Way Home is expected to wake it up with a loud boom: Many in the industry are already expecting the third Holland title to easily open to $100M+, making it one of the top five domestic debuts for December. Tickets go on sale today for the Dec. 17 release. The third movie from Watts doesn’t just star Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, but also previous villains from the older Sony Spider-men franchise as well as reportedly Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in a time-twisting tale which connects to the upcoming Disney/MCU title Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Holland poured water on his future with Spider-Man, telling GQ earlier this month, “Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.”

This thread was a fun read. Trying to catch up on a lot of stuff I missed here over the last few months.

I’m looking forward to this movie.

And I am likely in the minority anywhere but my favorite Spider-Man is Toby Maguire. The rest of the cast from his films I could do with some re-casts but I liked his Spider-Man a lot. Except the angry emo version in Spider-Man 3. Actually, Spider-Man 3 was pretty crappy as a whole but Spider-Man 1 and 2 were pretty good.

3 more movies with Holland? Nice! Time to get him out of high school and throw him into college.

Joey, Tobey is also my favorite so far. Holland is a close second but if they change the childish tone a little then he could take number one.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ $50M Preview Easily Pandemic Record, All-Time For Sony; Beats ‘Last Jedi’ & ‘Infinity War’; $100M Friday Likely
Spider-Man: No Way Home (Sony to Release Extended Cut In Theaters) ($1.8 Billion Worldwide Box Office) - Page 2 10697310
Who says people love to stay home and stream movies? Proving that theatrical is still king, Sony/Disney/Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home rang up a massive $50M, the third highest preview night ever, and the most money Sony has ever seen for a Thursday preview night that easily buries the previous high we’ve seen during the pandemic, that being for Disney/Marvel’s Black Widow at $13.2M. It also blows away Sony’s previous Thursday preview high, which was for the first Tom Holland MCU Spider-Man in 2017, Spider-Man: Homecoming which minted $15.4M.

Among the all-time Thursday preview records, and granted Spider-Man: No Way Home started at 3PM, the pic ranks behind 2019’s Avengers: Endgame ($60M, off 6PM start showtimes) and 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($57M).

Sources tell me that a $100M opening day for the Jon Watts-directed multiverse title is likely, and even if it falls short, that’s still nothing to cry about because Spider-Man: No Way is the biggest movie we’ve seen in a long time.

Out of the gate, Spider-Man: No Way Home gets 5 stars on Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak from general audiences and a massive 95% positive rating. Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Thursday night crowd (and we do mean that) was 65% men, 35% women. Men under 25 led at 38% (best grade with 98%), men under 25 were 27% (95% grade), women under 25 were 21% (94% grade) while women over 25 repped 14% (88% grade). Spidey pulled in 33% Caucasian, 33% Hispanic and Latino, 17% Black, and 13% Asian. The 18-34 moviegoing demo represented a huge 75% of last night’s tickets sales.

Already before Sony made their preview number official this morning, No. 1 and 3 circuits AMC and Cinemark were declaring records along with online ticket seller Fandango.

AMC saw its biggest opening night for the month of December and the second highest after Avengers: Endgame with Spider-Man: No Way Home, selling 1.1 million tickets in the U.S. yesterday. That was also the single highest number of people watching one movie on one day at AMC’s U.S. theatres during all of calendar years 2020 and 2021.

“Needless to say, we are ever so happy to see a record-setting number of people returning to the cinema to capture the magic offered at AMC movie theatres,” said Adam Aron, AMC Chairman and CEO said in a statement. “Yesterday for its opening night, we hosted some 1.1 million guests to watch SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME at our U.S. theatres. Our congratulations go to Sony Pictures for this wonderfully successful new movie.”

Aron added, “Spider-Man clearly indicates to us that consumers in large numbers desire the experience that only AMC theatres can provide, and our amazing theatre teams were prepared for the moment.”

The circuit’s share price has been down from its $30-$40 price levels of November, currently at $27.82; but AMC saw pickup this morning thanks to Spidey, +3.46 at the time of this report.

Meanwhile, Cinemark saw their opening night of all time; while also setting a first night record for their PLF XD auditoriums.

“Moviegoers flocked to our theatres last night to experience Spider-Man: No Way Home in a state-of-the-art cinematic environment, setting multiple Cinemark all-time records,” said Justin McDaniel, Cinemark SVP of Global Content. “The sheer volume of people who came to see this film on the biggest screen, many for the first time since the pandemic, underscores the irreplaceable value of the in-theatre experience, which we are thrilled to continue to offer in collaboration with our studio partners. Congratulations to the entire Sony team for a remarkable opening performance for their latest blockbuster.”

Fandango says that Spider-Man: No Way Home is already their top ticket seller of the year, outstripping all the tickets they’ve sold for the entire theatrical runs of any 2020 or 2021 including their previous ticketing champ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Yesterday, Fandango saw its top-performing Thursday preview day since Avengers: Endgame (Thursday, April 25, 2019) with No Way Home; it even surpassed Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Thursday, December 19, 2019).

$50 MILLION ON A THURSDAY NIGHT?!?!?! God damn!!

To my recollection, the majority of Thursday openings have been closer to $5 million...

I think it's safe to say the studio is going to be throwing INSANE money at Holland to resign now.

Saw it tonight, it was pretty damn good.

They trolled DC. The bully character, Flash, writes a book named Flashpoint. This in Marvel’s biggest foray into the multiverse.

Going to watch it Monday all masked up, first movie I'll be watching in theaters in 2.5 years.

I expected big B.O. numbers because of the villains but $50 mil is impressive.

I feel like I gotta ask.....is this a COVID mask or are you so excited that you're cosplaying as Spidey?

And in a followup to that Thursday box office news that proves we should stop giving a fuck about China's box office.

Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home has become the third biggest global opener of all-time with $587.2M. Crossing the $500M mark makes it only the sixth film ever to reach the milestone in a launch frame. The Jon Watts-directed MCU entry instantly becomes the No. 6 movie of 2021 worldwide (No. 3 for the studios), overtaking all other Marvel pics this year. Topping $500M at open is even more impressive as NWH did it without China, only the second film ever to the five-century mark sans that giant market.

For Sony, this is the biggest opening weekend, ever.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Poised To Cross $1B Global On Christmas Day
Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home is poised for a very Merry Christmas as the webslinger is on track to surpass the $1 billion mark globally on Saturday. This would make it the first film of the pandemic era to hit the milestone, as well as the second-fastest title ever at 11 days (tying with Avengers: Infinity War). Avengers: Endgame is the record holder, having done it in five.

Best one of the trilogy by far. A lot of references to the previous Spider-Man movies and the old villains just made this movie great. Tom really surprised me with his performance in this movie and I love the decisions made by the end of this movie. This is what I have been saying all along and we finally get the Spider-Man we've been wanting to see. I would say this is an origin to him becoming Spider-Man in a lot of ways. The next movie they make is going to be good.

There were some surprises that you guys might know about that I was very happy to see. A lot of nostalgia in this movie and I loved all of it. Some villains are outstanding because the actors are just that incredible. Despite some minor issues, you'll still be entertained watching this movie. I'd give it 8.5/10. Recommended!

Holy shit guys, Spidey 3 has taken down $1.7 Billion, barely five weeks since release.....

With an amazing $1.69B worldwide cume through Sunday, Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home has become the No. 6 film ever globally, passing Jurassic World ($1.67B) and The Lion King ($1.662B) to get there. This includes a running $970.1M from the international box office, which should portend an eventual $1B overseas gross — and without a China bump. Domestic is at $721M+.

‘No Way Home’ Beats ‘Avatar’ To Become Third-Highest-Grossing Movie At Domestic Box Office
Spider-Man: No Way Home (Sony to Release Extended Cut In Theaters) ($1.8 Billion Worldwide Box Office) - Page 2 Spider18
Early industry estimates Tuesday morning spotted that Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home finally outstripped the $760.5 million take of James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi spectacle Avatar, becoming the third-highest-grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office with a running total of $760.988M. Sony has made that figure official.

This feat comes after a solid $1.615M Valentine’s Day haul at 3,300 theaters for the Jon Watts-directed pic starring Tom Holland, Zendaya and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Spider-Man: No Way Home accomplishes the feat in 60 days, in the ninth week of release off a pure theatrical window. It took Avatar roughly nine months of release (getting it to $749.7M, per Box Office Mojo), plus an additional 2010 re-release ($10.7M) to get the movie at $760.5M.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has held the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office for six out of its nine weekends of release. That’s the second-most No. 1 weekends for a movie released in the millennium after Avatar, which had seven No. 1 weekends. Spider-Man is part of a group of films that include the original Return of the Jedi, The Fugitive, Rain Man, Rocky IV and Terms of Endearment — all of which ranked No. 1 for six weekends during their theatrical runs.

Avatar remains the highest-grossing movie of all time at the global box office with $2.84 billion, ahead of Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion) in second. Spider-Man: No Way Home is the sixth-highest-grossing title worldwide, with a running total of $1.8 billion. A release in China is still TBD.

Avatar 2 finally arrives in movie theaters December 16 after six-plus years of production.

The top two movies at the all-time domestic box office are 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6M) and Avengers: Endgame ($858.3M), and it’s unlikely that Spidey will ever catch up to those films. Industry estimates peg that the final cume for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is one of the few MCU titles to boast an A+ CinemaScore, will be around $785M. It took Force Awakens 20 days and Avengers: Endgame 23 days to click past the $760M threshold.

Spider-Man: No Way Home ranked fourth on Monday after Universal’s Marry Me ($3.04M), 20th Century Studios/Disney’s Death on the Nile ($2.6M) and Paramount’s Jackass Forever (est. $1.7M).

Sony is hoping for more box office momentum from Holland this coming Presidents Day weekend with Uncharted, its first release post Spider-Man: No Way Home. Industry estimates have the movie pegged at a $30M-$35M four-day opening. Uncharted has already made $22M from 15 markets.

The next Sony/Marvel movie is Morbius starring Jared Leto on April 1.

I'd be curious if Avatar's rabid fandom has dropped off or if it's only built over the years. Either way we'll find out who swings the bigger bat come this Christmas.

I caught No Way Home on HBO Max the other day and I thought it was the most enjoyable entry in the trilogy.

They pulled off the multiverse characters better than I'd expected even if I wasn't really ever a fan of any of the villains except for Willem's Osbourne. It was still nice to see it all tied together after so many years.

I was expecting the Matt Murdock debut to be brief but god damn all that waiting for that??? His appearance was so short, it was barely even a cameo.

Multiple Peters all feeling that familiar tingle. This is really a weird franchise..... Razz
