La La Land (Emma Stone / Ryan Gosling / J.K. Simmons) (July 15, 2016)
If you were to look at Whiplash and guess what writer/director Damien Chazelle’s next film would be, a Los Angeles-set love story musical would probably not be your first thought. And yet, that’s exactly what Chazelle made with La La Land, and I cannot wait to see it. Our first look at the film has arrived today via the first image, and while we’ve seen the coupling of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling before (a couple times, even), the prospect of the two singing and dancing is incredibly exciting.
The film revolves around the burgenoning love between a musician (Gosling) and a struggling actress (Stone), and as we can see here, Chazelle was certainly influenced by the classic Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers musicals. And indeed, Chazelle didn’t choose Los Angeles as the setting by happenstance: “There’s an incredible romanticism in L.A. that you don’t always see when you’re stuck in traffic on the 405.”
While this is certainly a bit of a 180 from Chazelle, I’m enthused to see the filmmaker taking a bold risk with his second feature rather than just riding the Whiplash wave with another dark drama. And he’s already planning something entirely different for his third movie: a process-driven biopic of Neil Armstrong that traces his time at NASA up through the moon landing. Talk about range.
La La Land opens in theaters on July 15, 2016 and also stars J.K. Simmons, Rosemarie DeWitt, Finn Wittrock, and John Legend.

I finally watched this and I can't believe all the BS hype about this film. This is the movie that received all the praises, seriously?

I can't tell if you're serious or being sarcastic. lol If you're serious then no, it's an ok movie that doesn't deserve all the attention it's gotten. People saw something different and a little bit of nostalgia to old movies and praised it. I certainly don't think it deserved all the awards. I enjoyed Hacksaw Ridge WAY more than this.

I am serious, I saw it in theaters twice and bought the UHD day one. I know you don't like old movies or anything that resembles them in any way.
Hacksaw Ridge was good but I not great

That's the one directed by Mad Mel where Spider-Man uses his faith in Jesus to save people in war without bullets right?

That's just not true, I may not watch old movies but doesn't mean I don't enjoy new movies that take place in the past. Heck, Hacksaw Ridge is like that. What I don't get is how do you watch this movie twice in theaters Tyger? What about it did you like? The singing and dancing? The story? Which is really just a love story. Gosling hasn't made a good movie in a while man. Hopefully that changes with Blade Runner 2049.
