The Big Short (Brad Pitt / Christian Bale / Ryan Gosling / Steve Carell) (December 2015)

Paramount Pictures opted for “Good Morning America” Tuesday morning to announce that Adam McKay’s “The Big Short” — with an all-star cast featuring Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei and Melissa Leo — would be getting a December 2015 release.

The film, based on the book by Michael Lewis (“The Blind Side”), tells the story of bond and real estate derivative geeks who saw the housing crash of 2008 coming and bet against the collateralized debt obligation bubble, thus striking it rich. It’s kind of like betting the “Don’t Pass” line, for the craps players out there. These guys, who were really just trying to stick it to the big banks (which themselves would of course be bailed out), hit the jackpot while the American dream was being flushed down the toilet for regular Joes in the real world.

Wow! Huge and talented cast and it looks great. Look forward to seeing this one.

Steve Carell seems to have left the usual comedy genre and went into drama, I think he's been at it since The Way Way Back and then Foxcatcher.

I never heard about this movie until now or maybe I forgot. Is that a wig on Pitt? I don't recall him looking like that out in the public.

Steve started venturing into the more dramatic quite awhile ago with Little Miss Sunshine, Dan in Real Life and Crazy Stupid Love but he didn't primarily focus on drama until these past few years and that's when people just started paying more attention. He's great at playing very damaged characters in a way that can either be dark like Little Miss Sunshine where he was extremely suicidal and always trying to kill himself or you get Andy in 40 Year Old Virgin. The guy is surprisingly diverse.

Brad's hair length is constantly changing so I'd say it's probably his. I can't recall a movie where he might have even worn a wig, I think he's always opted for his own.

What an incredible movie. I had no idea just how exactly the housing crisis came to be. This is an incredibly smart movie that you have to keep up with, the explanation was very well done to dumb it down for people like me. lol! Subprime loans, CDOs and synthesized CDOs.....no wonder they make it sound so complicated. Most people don't know what all this shit is and you can't blame them. Giving out loans without credit checking and trying to put mortgage bonds with other mortgage bonds as subprime loans, the whole process was disgusting as learn more and more about. No wonder they gave out those homebuyer credit back in 2008.

Anyway, overall great film with great performances. You guys should check it out. Who's seen it yet?
