Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30, 2023) Pratt-10

Here’s one from the helluva good idea department. Marvel offerings are soaring, and Star Wars is being reinvigorated by director JJ Abrams. Now, Disney has just started to turn its attention to reviving the Indiana Jones franchise after buying the rights from Paramount in 2013. I’m cautioned that while things are very early, I hear the studio has set its sights on Chris Pratt as the swashbuckling archaeologist they hope to build the new franchise around, the role made famous by Harrison Ford in Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Pratt jumped to leading-man movie status with his performance in last year’s blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy for Marvel and Disney. He starts The Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua in April for MGM and Sony, and there’s the inevitable Guardians Of The Galaxy sequel. Disney won’t comment and all this is admittedly early, so let’s chalk it up as a dishy informed rumor for now and keep an eye on it.

I seem to remember having this exact casting discussion back in the Uncharted thread awhile ago.

So the Magnificent Seven with Denzel is his next film? I didn't expect that one to actually come together.

Indiana Jones is swinging back into theaters.

Steven Spielberg will direct Harrison Ford in the untitled fifth installment in the classic action-adventure franchise, which will open July 19, 2019, Disney announced Tuesday.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Disney chairman Alan Horn. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Franchise veterans Kathleen Marshall — who now is president of Lucasfilms — and Frank Marshall will produce. Disney, which owns Lucasfilms, home of the Indiana Jones franchise, is taking over duties from Paramount, which released the previous four films.

If there was a time to reboot something, this would be it. Harrison is getting old and I'm sure he doesn't want to be doing this now. Seen him do an interview for Star Wars and he just doesn't seem interested.

He hasn't seemed interested in anything the last 20 years, watch every interview he gives. He seems like a grumpy old man who doesn't want to be anywhere and is bothered by everything. He'll make revisit any 30-40 year old franchise if you pay him enough, he just needs to be sitting most of the time.

Oh good news everybody.... Razz

David Koepp has been hired to write the screenplay for the latest installment of the venerable Indy franchise. This will mark the fifth time Keopp and director Spielberg have worked together, having previously written the scripts for Jurassic Park, The Lost World, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Spielberg's the only one who will employ him and clearly nobody cares about the franchise anymore if they feel like an 80 year old Doctor Jones sounds awesome.

Indiana Jones Movie Announced for 2022, Harrison Ford Will Return One Last Time
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30, 2023) Indian10
For some now, the question of whether Harrison Ford's character in the celebrated Indiana Jones franchise will be recast has been a big topic for heated debates. While it is understandable that one can't expect the actor to play the role forever, to even think of any other actor in his place is akin to a sin. Well, now you don't have to entertain this scary possibility as Disney has confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 is set to begin production with Ford reprising the character of the iconic archaeologist though it will be the last time we will see the actor donning that priceless fedora.

In its much-awaited Disney Investor Day event, Disney announced that Indiana Jones 5 is going to begin filming in the spring next year, though pre-production for the same is already in progress.

"Lucasfilm is in pre-production on the next installment of Indiana Jones," the company has shared. "At the helm is James @Mang0ld, director of Ford v Ferrari, and Indy himself, Harrison Ford, will be back to continue his iconic character's journey."

— Star Wars (@starwars) December 10, 2020

The announcement puts to rest the massive speculations that Ford might not be returning as the famed adventurer as even though he was confirmed to reprise the role back in 2016, the film was then postponed until 2021. The actor was last seen as the renowned adventurer back in 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. With the gap between the films already larger than fans appreciated, the added delay and the fact that Ford moved on to other projects in the years following it gave way to more wild theories

There have even been speculations that Chris Pratt will be seen sporting Indian Jones' bullwhip and leather jacket but the 78-year-old actor is fortunately not planning to hand over his legacy just yet. He had confirmed the same back in 2016 during a chat with Jimmy Kimmel, wherein he stressed that whenever the character gets a new story, a new adventure, "I'll be ready."

"The opportunity to work with [producer] Steven [Spielberg] again and the chance to revisit this character which has brought pleasure to so many people -- not to mention, me," he explained. "It's great fun to play this character. It's great fun to work with Steven. I'm looking forward to it."

As it is already known, James Mangold, director of the Oscar-nominated Ford v Ferrari will be helming this next chapter in Indiana Jones' adventurous life, instead of Steven Spielberg who directed the first four films in the franchise. This time, he is on board as the executive producer, along with Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall as producers. It was after Spielberg decided to step down from developing the fifth and final Indiana Jones film that Mangold took over. And Marshall has already ensured in a chat with Collider that the Ford v Ferrari director is perfect for the franchise.

"His love of the franchise. He's a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time," he had shared, adding that as "Steven is staying on as a producer, so we've got the best of everything." Well, the success of the film will only be decided after it release. Barring any further delays, Dr. Jones' fifth adventure is expected to hit theatres in July 2022. This news comes to us from the official Disney Twitter page.

‘Indiana Jones 5’: Phoebe Waller-Bridge Lands Female Lead Opposite Harrison Ford
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30, 2023) Phoebe10
EXCLUSIVE: Following the confirmation at the Disney Investors Presentation in December that the next film was a go, Lucasfilm and director James Mangold look to have their sights set on Harrison Ford’s first new co-star in the next installment of the Indiana Jones franchise. Sources tell Deadline that Fleabag Emmy winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to co-star opposite Ford in the fifth installment, with Ford returning as everyone’s favorite fedora-wearing, whip-slinging archaeologist.

Mangold is taking over directing reins from Steven Spielberg, who still is serving as a producer and is very much involved in various elements of the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, who has worked on every score in the 40-year-old franchise including its iconic theme, also will return as composer.

The hope is to start production this summer, with Mangold meeting with other talent for other roles in preparation for production. Plot details are still vague on what new adventure awaits Jones, as are details behind who Waller-Bridge will play. The film is set to bow on July 29, 2022.

Waller-Bridge has had quite run after her TV show Fleabag became a critical darling, eventually sweeping the 2019 Emmys including wins for Best Actress and Best Comedy Series. Since then she has been busy on the TV and film front, serving as an exec producer on the hit BBC show Killing Eve as well as serving as a writer on the next James Bond pic No Time to Die. She also is set to co-star with Donald Glover in the Amazon series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, where she will also serve as an exec producer and writer.

This would mark a sort of pseudo-reunion for Waller-Bridge and Lucasfilm, having voiced L3-37 in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

‘Indiana Jones 5’: Mads Mikkelsen Joins Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge In Sequel
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30, 2023) Mads-m10
EXCLUSIVE: Following the news that Phoebe Waller-Bridge had landed the female lead in the next Indiana Jones movie, Lucasfilm has found Harrison Ford’s next co-star in Mads Mikkelsen, who is set to join the next installment. James Mangold is taking over directing reins from Steven Spielberg, who still is serving as a producer and is very much involved in various elements of the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, who has worked on every score in the 40-year-old franchise including its iconic theme, also will return as composer.

The film marks another major franchise Mikkelsen is boarding after coming on to the Fantastic Beasts movies; he replaces Johnny Depp as Grindelwald after Depp parted ways with the part earlier this year following his recent legal troubles.

Mikkelsen is also coming off some of the best reviews of his career in the Danish film Another Round, which earned a handful of Oscar nominations including Best International Feature and Best Director. At the BAFTAs, where Mikkelsen was nominated for best actor, the film took home the award for Best Film Not in the English Language. Next up for him is the Riders of Justice.

'Indiana Jones 5': Mangold Casts His 'Logan' Star Boyd Holbrook Alongside Harrison Ford
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30, 2023) Boyd-h10
There's a Logan reunion brewing on the set of Indiana Jones 5, as Boyd Holbrook has joined the cast of James Mangold's sequel, which has also added The Resident alum Shaunette Renée Wilson.

Harrison Ford is set to reprise his iconic role as the heroic archaeologist, and he'll be joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and a villainous (what else is new?) Mads Mikkelsen. Deadline broke the news of Holbrook's casting, and though character details are being kept under wraps, part of me wonders if he'll be positioned for a larger role in the future of this franchise. After all, Disney and Lucasfilm were looking to pass the Indy torch to Chris Pratt at one point, so you never know...

Mangold is directing the action-adventure movie, which Steven Spielberg will produce alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel. Spielberg directed the previous four films in the franchise and Deadline reports that he remains very involved in putting this picture together -- especially since it's expected to be Ford's last outing with the whip. Also back for this new installment is composer John Williams, who created Indy's iconic theme.

Plot details for Indiana Jones 5 remain under lock and key, but production is expected to start this summer, as Disney is slated to release the blockbuster sequel on July 29, 2022.

Holbrook broke out as the star of Narcos before being cast as the villain opposite Hugh Jackman in Mangold's Logan, which is among the greatest comic book movies ever made. That film landed him the lead in Shane Black's The Predator, which seemed to halt his career momentum. That said, Holbrook has several exciting projects on the horizon, as he'll soon be seen as The Corinthian in The Sandman series on Netflix, and he has also wrapped a pair of projects from director B.J. Novak -- the Blumhouse thriller Vengeance and the FX series Platform. He also stars in the Sundance genre flick Eight for Silver and the action-thriller Beckett, which pairs him with John David Washington and Alicia Vikander.

Wilson is best known for her work on Fox's medical drama The Resident, though she also appeared in Black Panther as a member of the Dora Milaje. Her other credits include Showtime's Billions and Blumhouse's Into the Dark: Treehouse. Her role in Indy 5 remains a secret, so stay tuned for more info as it's revealed.

Old Man Ford has fallen down on another set because he's way too fucking old to still be making movies. He's now hurting himself during rehearsals while throwing fake punches and doing damage only to himself because he's too fucking old to still be doing this. This movie is going to be amazing.

Harrison Ford Injures Shoulder Rehearsing ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Fight Scene
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30, 2023) Indian11
EXCLUSIVE: Harrison Ford hurt himself rehearsing a fight scene in Indiana Jones 5, sources tell Deadline.  The extent of his injury wasn’t immediately known, but it involves his shoulder. Director James Mangold will continue to shoot around him while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated. The filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.  Disney has set the Lucasfilm action thriller for a July 29, 2022 release date.

Production on Indiana Jones 5 got underway earlier this month in Pinewood and other U.K. locations. Ford stars alongside Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Thomas Kretschmann. Logan director James Mangold is taking over directing reins from Steven Spielberg, who still is serving as producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel. John Williams, who has worked on every score in the 40-year-old franchise including its iconic theme, is also returning as composer.

Just got a statement from Disney: “In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder. Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.”

He smashed his leg up when one of the Millennium Falcon's doors closed on him. When Ford isn't injuring himself on set, he's crashing his own airplanes.

‘Indiana Jones 5’ Gets June 2023 Release Date, First-Look Photo
Harrison Ford appeared Thursday at the Lucasfilm panel at Star Wars Celebration to announce that Indiana Jones 5 will hit theaters on June 30, 2023.

Ford returns to star in the latest installment of the franchise. He told the crowd today that the film is almost done, and will again feature the music of John Williams.

Williams joined the event to conduct the live orchestra in his Indiana Jones theme before Ford was introduced. The Star Wars music master also led the group in the first live performance of the Obi-Wan Kenobi theme. That series, starring Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, drops its first two episodes on Disney+ on Friday.

James Mangold is directing Indiana Jones 5 taking over from Steven Spielberg, with Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth and Mangold co-writing the script. No plot details have been revealed and none were mentioned during today’s confab, though Ford, Mangold and executive producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall did reveal a first photo from the movie (below):

Indy 5 had originally received a July 10, 2020 release date and later July 29 of this year, but pandemic delays and Spielberg’s work completing West Side Story sidelined production.

The film’s ensemble cast also includes Antonia Banderas, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann and Toby Jones.

Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel are producers.

Through four movies, the Indiana Jones franchise has racked up close to $2 billion worldwide.

The Star Wars Celebration panel today rolled out a combo of Lucasfilm news and fan red meat. The Obi-Wan Knenobi series on Disney+ started the panel, with info on the Diego Luna-led Andor and Season 3 of The Mandalorian following. There was a new trailer for the Willow series, and confirmation that Jude Law has joined Jon Watts and Christopher Ford’s in the news Star Wars series Skeleton Crew.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30, 2023) Empty Re: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30, 2023)

‘Indiana Jones 5’ Trailer Unveils De-Aged Harrison Ford and New Title: ‘Dial of Destiny’
Indiana Jones is officially back.

Disney revealed the first trailer for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which is the official title for the fifth installment of Harrison Ford’s whip-cracking, adventure franchise. On top of that, the trailer showcases a de-aged Harrison Ford as Indy back in his glory days of archaeology and adventures. The film is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023.

The trailer opens on some classic, death-defying Indy antics as he jumps between speeding tuk tuk cars. There are also shots of him running along a moving train and riding a motorcycle in the rain after a plane, but “those days have come and gone,” Ford says as a retired Indy who has stuck to teaching.

“I don’t believe in magic, but a few times in my life I’ve seen things. Things I can’t explain,” he narrates over first-looks at villains played by Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas, plus Indy’s goddaughter, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. John Williams’ iconic “Indiana Jones” score crashes in as Indy picks up his fedora, narrowly avoids a train on horseback and bullwhips some henchmen to close out the trailer.

Indy’s latest outing is set in the 1960s during the Space Race between the U.S. and Soviet Russia. Unlike previous films, George Lucas did not write the story for “Indiana Jones 5” and Steven Spielberg is not the director. Instead, both of those roles will be filled by James Mangold, who is known for his films like “Logan,” “Ford vs. Ferrari,” “3:10 to Yuma” and more. Spielberg is still attached as an executive producer, and Lucas, the original creator of the film franchise, is credited with some involvement in the writer’s room.

Co-starring alongside Ford is John Rhys-Davies, who is reprising the role of Sallah, last seen in 1989’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” as well as new additions like Mikkelsen, Banderas, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Toby Jones.

Waller-Bridge, the Emmy-winning creator and star of Prime Video’s “Fleabag,” is also making a first appearance in the franchise as Indy’s goddaughter Helena, who composer Williams has described as “an adventuress, and also a femme fatale.”

Not only is “Indiana Jones 5” the last hurrah for 80-year-old Ford, but also 90-year-old composer Williams, who confirmed the film would likely be his last.

“At the moment I’m working on ‘Indiana Jones 5,’ which Harrison Ford — who’s quite a bit younger than I am — I think has announced will be his last film,” Williams told the Associated Press in a June 2022 interview. “So, I thought: If Harrison can do it, then perhaps I can, also.”

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is not going to make a profit for Disney, and has lost more money then famous box office bomb John Carter....

Damn! Where is the generation who grew up with Indiana Jones? Why aren't they going to see it? Theaters seem to be suffering right now.

Half of them are probably dead. I watched a review and they noted that there probably wasn't a single person under the age of 30 at their screening.

Makes sense. The original film is 40 years old ... shit, the last film is already 15 years old. Unlike Star Wars which has a shitload of product out and offers a little something for everyone.

As adults how do you feel about Indiana Jones? As a kid I remember enjoying the first two movies and the Young Indiana tv series but I wasn't a big fan and I never really connected with it in any way, not like I did with TMNT or Batman and I don't think I ever owned the movies, not even on VHS. I don't have nostalgic love for the franchise and I don't revisit them annually. I think it was last year that I watched them for the first time in decades and they just didn't hold up. They're incredibly cheesy, nothing aged particularly well and I just don't enjoy slapstick humor based on really dumb shit and the stories are basic bitch meets supernatural. As Rust mentioned Indy doesn't offer something for everyone like Star Wars, this franchise basically caters to one specific type of guy.

I love many 80's movies but Indiana Jones is not among my beloved franchises and I wasn't planning to see this before it hits Disney+. I haven't really heard anybody say anything good about this one yet either and I thought they couldn't do worse than Crystal Skull but a lot of fans seem pretty pissed off by this final Indy offering.

I'm not surprised by this latest failure and I don't want to see the franchise spun off starring the female lead of this movie. It needs to end with Harrison Ford.

Yeah, not a huge fan myself. They should have either reboot it with a younger actor or stopped after Crystal Skull.

My favorite Harrison Ford franchise character isn't Indy or Han Solo, it's Jack Ryan.
