Focus Features is developing the Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt, picking up a feature package that sees Jeff Tremaine, the helmer of the Jackass movies, attached to direct.

The project is based on The New York Times bestselling autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band, which was written by Mötley Crüe members Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, and Nikki Sixx, as well as author Neil Strauss.

The book was a no holds barred account of the iconic 1980s band's rise to top of the hair metal and rock scene, all while experiencing a guitar case's worth of drug overdoses, sex with slinky babes, run-ins with the police and in-fighting.

Armed with a screenplay written by Rich Wilkes and Tom Kapinos, Focus is promising a "Dr. Feelgood" movie that will be outrageous, larger-than-life depiction of the band's high (and low) life.

Julie Yorn, Erik Olsen, and Allen Kovac will produce. Chris Nilsson, Steven Kline, and Rick Yorn will executive-produce.

The band members are co-producers on the film. Amanda Adelson is also a co-producer.

The move kickstarts the heart of the project, which was once housed at Paramount and seen directors such as David Fincher and Larry Charles be sticky sweet on it.
A search for actors will begin shortly.

Josh McLaughlin, Focus’ senior vp of production, will oversee the production on behalf of the studio. Josh Peters, Focus’ director of acquisitions, brought the project into the studio.

Tremaine last directed 2013’s Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, which grossed over $102 million domestically.

Oh man, I read this book back in high school and it was nuts. I also loved Nikki's Heroin Diaries followup.

Jeff Tremaine? Really?

I'll check it out, I love biopics about musicians even if they're largely formulaic bullshit

Rock stars acting like fucking morons trashing hotel rooms and doing very stupid shit like hooking whiskey up to a straight IV drip to the vein? Nah, Tremaine wouldn't know about filming assholes like that. Razz

Watch First Trailer for Motley Crue Biopic ‘The Dirt’
Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its Motley Crue biopic “The Dirt” — based on Neil Strauss’ best-selling history of the legendarily bad-behaved ‘80s metal icons — and it looks like the film pulls no punches in terms of the band’s famously sordid history.

In this two-minute trailer, we get glimpses of singer Vince Neil’s 1984 car wreck that killed Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle (as well as the death from cancer of Neil’s 4-year-old daughter several years later), bassist/songwriter Nikki Sixx’s heroin addiction, guitarist Mick Mars’ age and degenerative bone disease, and Tommy Lee’s marriage to TV star Heather Locklear and all-around unhinged behavior.

Industry insiders will probably be tickled to see “SNL” star Pete Davidson as the band’s A&R man, Tom Zutaut.

While much of this territory has been covered in the VH1 “Behind the Music” on the group, judging by the trailer the biopic treatment has vividly brought it all to life.

Machine Gun Kelly plays Lee, Douglas Booth plays Sixx, Daniel Webber plays Neil, Iwan Rheon plays Mars and Leven Rambin (“Gone,” “True Detective,” “The Hunger Games”) plays Neil’s ex-wife Charisse.

Jeff Tremaine, who helmed the “Jackass” movies, is directing the film from a script by Rich Wilkes and Amanda Adelson. Julie Yorn, Erik Olsen, and Allen Kovac are producing, while Chris Nilsson, Steve Kline, and Rick Yorn are exec producing. Members of Motley Crue are co-producing.

“The Dirt” book was originally issued in 2001 and the film moved from studio to studio for many years, landing at Paramount Pictures more than a decade ago. Larry Charles was initially attached to direct “The Dirt” for Paramount and MTV Films in 2006. Focus then came on in 2015 while the band was on its final tour. At that point, Tremaine and the current producers were on board.

I created this thread over FOUR years ago and had completely forgotten about this project until the trailer just dropped.

It was pretty middle of the road, but the actress who played Heather Locklear had her smile and mannerisms down

I read they completely ignored Pamela's existence even though she was a huge part of Tommy's life.

Most of it takes place during their heyday in the 80's and the stuff after is really only about Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx then a quick closing montage so the time period she was in his life is barely covered at all and not relevant to the story the way it was set up.
