Jacob Elordi Joins Guillermo Del Toro's FRANKENSTEIN As The Monster

The cast of Guillermo del Toro's much-anticipated Frankenstein has had a reshuffle, with Deadline reporting yesterday that Saltburn and Priscilla star Jacob Elordi has replaced Andrew Garfield in the role as the iconic monster.

Elordi will now join a glorious ensemble cast that includes scream queen Mia Goth, Inglourious Basterds' Christoph Waltz, Pinnochio's David Bradley and Oscar Isaac, who is playing the titular doctor.

According to Deadline, Garfield will no longer lead the project "due to strike postponements that led to scheduling conflicts." While we're sad to see the The Amazing Spider-Man star go, we're extremely hyped to see what Elordi brings to the role.

Alongside Elordi, Goth, Waltz and Isaac, Frankenstein has also added All Quiet on the Western Front breakout Felix Kammerer and Christian Convery (Cocaine Bear, Sweet Tooth).

Del Toro's Frankenstein, which the Crimson Peak director has been developing for some time, will be the latest adaptation of Mary Shelley's iconic Gothic novel that follows physicist Victor Frankenstein and his experimental creation of a sentient humanoid being known as the Creature. Heading to Netflix at an unknown date, details of del Toro's approach to the story are still under wraps.

The game-changing novel has always been a popular source of film adaptation, with 2023 alone seeing birth/rebirth, The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster and Yorgos Lanthimos' genre-spanning Poor Things all providing a fresh take on the tale. Then, of course, we've got Zelda Williams' Lisa Frankenstein coming in February! All being said, it's a great time to be a fan of the Monster.

No news yet of a release date for Frankenstein (with production reportedly beginning this February), but we'll have all the updates for you as they come lumbering in. Keep your eyes peeled!

Why are there suddenly Frankenstein movies being made? I just watched a trailer for Lisa Frankenstein the other day.

It would seem that brain eating zombies are out but the original undead monsters are coming back. There have been a few Frankenstein knockoff movies just in the past year and now they're gearing up to bring back both Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein too.

Yep. Poor Things is getting a lot of praise and I think Emma got an Emmy for it last week. I wasn't very interested in the trailer but who knows, it could be good.

The trailer looked awful but I've heard endless praise like you and apparently the movie has quite graphic sex scenes.

A Frankenstein monster having sex, you just know that's going to look weird.
