WyldeMan wrote:Gunn seems to enjoy a mixture of casting big names, unknowns with some nepotism thrown in such as casting his wife, his brother and most of his friends but those are the same things I like about Adam Sandler so I can't hate on Gunn for it. Though I do trust it will be a very interesting and likely surprising pair.
However, I'm much more interested in not the Kent's or the confirmed Lex Luthor who I don't believe will be Legacy's big bad. He's just not weird enough for Gunn. As I've said many times he loves wild and crazy shit, specially if it has tentacles so I'm thinking there is really only one puppet master for this show and it's going to be Braniac. Now that is who's casting I'm anxiously awaiting. I think Luthor will be in the background and will be built up in further sequels but I don't believe he's going to be the Boss this time around.
Oh, I like that! That would be the best thing to do for Lex. Now Brainiac is going to be interesting and with today's tech, there is a lot of potential there.

James Gunn Decries “Cameo Porn” In Superhero Movies
If you didn’t already know it, James Gunn is big on coherent narrative.
Earlier this week, the DC co-CEO was chatting with fans on Threads when he called out the lack of consistency in the DC Universe.
“One of the problems with DCEU content in the past was there was no real consistency within the universe itself. This never meant – & I never said, as this is how we always envisioned it – all animated & video game content would be in the DCU. I did (& still) say MOST tv & film will be in the DCU with the occasional Elseworld tale (like Matt’s The Batman), but it will have to be exceptional.”
As fans quizzed Gunn on which characters they could expect to see in upcoming projects, Gunn held forth on the subject of cameos which have, of late, become a regular, almost expected surprise in superhero films (think Nicolas Cage in The Flash).
“That’s fine if it doesn’t disrupt the story,” Gunn wrote. “It’s the plot contrivances that develop from a cameo, not the cameo itself.”
One commenter lamented what he described as the practice of “having character appear on screen for 10 seconds to mark a checkbox.”
“I call that ‘Cameo Porn’ and it has been one of the worst elements of recent superhero films,” replied Gunn. “If a character is in film, they have to have a reason to be there story-wise.”
A feature titled “SUPERMAN: LEGACY Director James Gunn Defends Reboot’s Large Cast And Says Superheroes Aren’t Just Cameos” was dropped into the chat.
Gunn’s response: “The whole point was it’s NOT a large film – I mean, not in terms of cast. It’s normal for single protagonist films to have other characters – much more unusual for them not to.” He also pointed out that “none of those roles [in Legacy] are cameos.”
Oppenheimer was presented as an example of a single-protagonist film with a lot of characters. Gunn heartily agreed.

I would agree. If there is no point for the character then don't give them screen time.

GLASS ONION Star Madelyn Cline Is A Rumored Contender To Play SUPERGIRL In The DCU
Many fans were hoping that The Flash actress Sasha Calle would be given the opportunity to return as Supergirl in the DCU, but a recent report indicated that James Gunn is planning to cast a new Kara Zor-El, and we may have our first contender for the role.
According to John Rocha on the latest episode of The Hot Mic, Madelyn Cline could either be in talks to play the Girl of Steel, or is someone Gunn and Warner Bros. are eyeing for the part.
The 25-year-old actress will likely be best-known for Netflix's Outer Banks, but also played Whiskey in Glass Onion, and has appeared in Stranger Things, The Originals, and What Breaks the Ice.
This is very much just a rumor for the time being, but Cline certainly looks the part.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is in the early stages of development, but we've heard that Kara will actually make her debut in Superman: Legacy, so there's a decent chance we'll get an official casting announcement very soon.
Rocha has also heard that Gunn will be at next year's Comic Con to debut the first Superman: Legacy teaser.
In addition to David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Legacy will also introduce Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
More recently, Nicholas Hoult was announced as Lex Luthor, with Sara Sampaio signing on to play his assistant/lover Eve Teschmacher, and Skyler Gisondo taking on the role of Jimmy Olsen.
Members of the anti-hero team The Authority will also appear, and we recently learned that María Gabriela de Faría (Animal Control) has been cast as Angela Spica/The Engineer.
We're still not sure exactly how these other superheroes will factor into the story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's dual-life as both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that these characters will be his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team or not remains to be seen.
“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
Specific plot details are still under wraps, but Brainiac is rumored to be the movie's primary antagonist. Gunn recently debunked another report which claimed that the story would revolve around some kind of conflict in the fictional Middle Eastern country of Bialya, which is where the Scarab in Blue Beetle originates from in the comics.
It was said that the Man of Steel would be blamed for a terrorist organization getting their hands on powerful Kryptonian tech, and The Authority would be sent in to investigate. Gunn simply stated that the terrorist threat aspect "isn't true," so there's always a chance some of the other details are accurate.
Production is scheduled to get underway early next year.

I'd approve of this casting. I want a full reboot that respects the source so it appears Gunn remains on the correct path.

Would it help if Kara brought along Krypto? The last few Kara's haven't had the superdog and after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, I'd say Gunn is just itching to put another alien super dog in his next franchise.

‘Superman: Legacy’ Cast Photo Unveiled By James Gunn On Social
To celebrate the ramp up of Superman: Legacy‘s production in Atlanta, director/scribe and co-DC boss James Gunn posted a photo of the cast on Instagram today.
“After the table read with the ‘Superman’ cast,” Gunn wrote. “Eve, Mr. Terrific, Superman/Clark, Otis, Lex, producer Peter Safran, Jimmy, Metamorpho, Lois, Hawkgirl, me, Guy, The Engineer all together for the first time! What a wonderful day.”
Of note in the photo is a bald-headed Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luther. The actor follows in the footsteps of such actors as Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey and Jesse Eisenberg who’ve played the villain on the big screen.
David Corenswet is playing the title role, while The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane. Also in the photo are Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillon (Guy Gardner), Isabela Mercad (Hawkgirl) and more.
Superman Legacy is the first feature title in the new Gunn and Peter Safran-run DC Universe. “It’s not an origins story, it focuses on Superman’s balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He’s the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, he’s kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned,” said Safran at the January 2023 DC presser.
As Deadline first told you in recent weeks, House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock nabbed the coveted role of Supergirl. lcock’s Supergirl will appear in a DC-based project before headlining her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book. No director has been selected for that project, though an autumn start for the movie is being eyed.
Superman: Legacy hits theaters on July 11, 2025.

Re: Superman (Wendell Pierce is Perry White) (July 11, 2025)
Gunn has opted to drop Legacy from the title, the movie is now called Superman. He posted this on Instagram yesterday:
Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.
When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.

James Gunn’s Superman (ne Superman Legacy) has cast Wendell Pierce as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White.

Perry White debuted in a Superman radio serial in 1940. He’s Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s boss and the interpretation has ranged from cigar-chomping cynic to sage dad-like figure. Actors who’ve played him include Jackie Cooper in the Christopher Reeves canon, Frank Langella in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, and Laurence Fishburne in Zack Snyder’s movies.
Gunn’s Superman stars David Corenswet in the title role, Rachel Brosnahan as Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).
Pierce starred on HBO’s iconic series The Wire, in addition to the Amazon series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as James Greer. The actor also starred on Starz’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

Ok, I don't like this. After seeing Bizzaro in Superman and Lois, I think I've had enough of the character.

Re: Superman (Wendell Pierce is Perry White) (July 11, 2025)
Well I said six months ago that I didn't want big names but was ok with recognizable faces. Can't say I ever imagined Pruitt Taylor Vince as Pa Kent but he's never turned in a bad performance so I'm not mad.
I am however unfamiliar with Neva Howell, so I don't really yet have an opinion on her casting as Ma Kent.
I'd imagine they won't have very large roles either with these casting choices.
