Spiral: From the Book of Saw ($40 Million Worldwide Box Office)
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Â Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

Saw is BACK! Trailer looks good. I love the franchise so I'm looking forward to this.

It's Black Saw. The trailer makes me think Sam Jackson gets the quick opening death scene that kicks off the new franchise.
This got the greenlight almost immediately after Jordan Peele started making horror hits.

This might be the worst Saw movie. Wasn't surprised at all by the twist. Chris Rock was terribly miscast.

Sorry, I completely missed your post last week.
So what I'm hearing is you're not down for Black Saw.
I just read about the ending and shook my damn head. It's literally everything that's come before in every single Saw movie for the last twenty years. They didn't even try anything new after Chris Rock spent two years talking about how it was a fresh new take.
But it's just another movie about a corrupt, serial killer, cop who is manipulating his partner, just like every Saw movie that came before it.

I didn't buy Chris Rock as a Detective at all. He should stick to comedy.
Killing Max Minghella offscreen was a huge giveaway, he's been in a few big movies so it was easy to put together.

The Saw franchise is pure torture porn, so anytime they don't take the opportunity to create another horrific, yet barely watchable death scene, you know that character will be returning.

John Kramer was the best part of the Saw franchise. I don't think anyone is going to live up to his genius. Spiral might have just killed the Saw franchise for good.
