This is one of my most anticipated movies of 2016. Love big fantasy movies and this has a great cast. Wish we'd get to see some footage soon though.

They debuted a damn trailer at Comic Con six months ago and yet nothing for the public. I read the read trailer breakdown and it sounded pretty cool. This does have a great cast but I still know absolutely nothing about the World of Warcraft outside of what I've seen on South Park and heard at lunch tables. So basically, I know less about this than SW.

Does it bother anybody that this is supposed to come out in a little over three months and we still don't have a trailer?

Legendary is usually starting to ramp up promotion at this point before a full on marketing assault to guarantee their monster movie is a huge hit and it works every time. But it's been all quiet on the Warcraft front for a very long time. It has a great cast and a pretty solid premiere date so I don't get the hold on.

Holy crap, my brain is totally fried today. I've read sooooo much Sony documentation today that years are no longer registering.

I think I may need a break for awhile.... Razz

I remember when movies didn't used to take three years to make...

Warcraft ($276,764,490) Warcra11
Duncan JonesWarcraft is sadly over a year away, but we’re now finally getting a glimpse of how far the film is pushing visual effects. Wired has released the first Warcraft image, and rather than the human actors, it provides a close-up on the orc Orgrim (Robert Kazinsky). Per the official description, “Orgrim is Durotan’s right hand and a brave warrior destined to wield the Doomhammer: a weapon of orc legend.” (Durotan, played by Toby Kebbell, is the lead protagonist of the Horde and fighting to protect his people from extinction.)

According to Wired, Industrial Light and Magic took concept art from Blizzard Entertainment—the video game company behind Warcraft—and merged it with photos and scans of Kazinsky. That’s almost a cruel oversimplification considering how fantastic Orgrim looks:

This role is why she was unavailable for Rogue Nation.

‘Warcraft’ Invades China With $46M Day One; Sets Non-Weekend & Imax Records
Warcraft blasted out of the gate today in China with $46 million (302M rmb) at the box office as of 10 PM local time. The Legendary Pictures/Universal Pictures adaptation of the popular video game franchise set a record for the best first-day box office for a non-weekend release in the Middle Kingdom. The previous title holder was Avengers: Age Of Ultron with $28.3M (185.86 rmb).
The midnight screenings, which began Tuesday, posted $7.6M (49.78M rmb), falling just shy of Furious 7‘s record which was set last year with $7.9M (52.47M rmb). In Imax, however, the Orcs bit down on a record for midnights with $1.38M (9.03M rmb). Including Imax midnights, Warcraft posted $5.33M (35M rmb) for the full opening day, hitting a new milestone for the format. That tops F7‘s $4.7M (31M rmb) from last April. Overall advance Imax ticket sales also bested all previous comers with $8.2M (53.8M rmb).

Opening estimates on Warcraft’s five-day launch, which comes during a holiday period, have been hovering between 800M rmb and 1B rmb which would put the range at $122M-$152M. It now looks more than likely that the citizens of Azeroth blow past the high end of those industry projections — kids are off and the Dragon Boat Festival begins tomorrow.

The Duncan Jones-helmed feature also sets a new milestone for the widest release ever in the Middle Kingdom, playing on an unprecedented 67.5% of all screens. The previous record holder for widest release was Universal’s own F7 last year. It bowed on 62.8% of screens and went on to final at $391M, becoming the biggest Hollywood title ever in China.

Wanda now owns Legendary, and its exhibition circuit has 18% of the 39K Middle Kingdom screens. That relationship clearly is helping here, while others booked Warcraft with gusto in the market which has a long history and love for the games.

Legendary’s local release partners are China Film Group and Huaxia. Warcraft has four Chinese equity partners: Tencent, CFG, Huayi and Taihe. Universal is understood to be in for about 25%-30% of the full reported $160M budget and will reap the benefits of all releases as part of the overall pie. After beginning international rollout on May 25, and with strong plays in Russia and Germany, the current estimated overseas cume is $121M.

The film is set for domestic release Friday with projections of about $25M for the weekend. If Warcraft continues its magical ride as expected in China, it kicks off the Legendary/Wanda relationship in a big way. It also potentially sends a signal that films which have great uptake internationally — and especially in China — may not need rely on North America quite so much.

It's only expected to pull in $25 million all weekend domestically but it had a $61 million first day in China. It's the Depp Effect all over again, Asia love their special effects and apparently don't care about the story.

WARCRAFT Struggles Stateside, But A Massive China Debut Could Lead to a Sequel
Like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and X-Men: Apocalypse before it, bad reviews for Wacraft have hampered its chances of making a significant amount at the North American box office this weekend. Instead, horror sequel The Conjuring 2 (directed by Aquaman helmer James Wan) earned $16.4 million on Friday for an impressive weekend haul of $38 million - $39 million which places it firmly at #1. Reviews have been positive and it has an A- CinemaScore, a rarity for a horror movie.

Warcraft on the other hand is looking at a debut of $26 million - $27 million, a poor result for a major blockbuster with a budget of $160 million. It has a B+ CinemaScore though, and the majority of fans do seem to be embracing the video game adaptation. However, like Pacific Rim and a number of other movies, the US may prove to be largely irrelevant when it comes to the possibility of a sequel.

The movie has been huge in China, earning a record $144.7 million in four days. By tomorrow, Warcraft will have earned $300 million worldwide, a figure which puts it in the black and could very well open the door to a follow-up depending how high it goes. We'll have to wait and see on that front, but things are looking good for the movie which initially appeared to be on the road to being a huge flop!

It didn't really do well here but the Chinese ate that shit right up probably saved the franchise, I tell ya they love anything if it's in 3D.

Yea, bro. I thought the movie was fantastic. I definitely recommend it with two thumbs up. This was my best purchase this year. If you have a 5.1 system at home, you gotta crank it up. Way up. The sound and visuals are superb. cheers

They also have a huge population which plays Warcraft. I really thought the movie was good. You should give it a shot. The writing was surprisingly good. It wasn't cheesy like you would expect. And it isn't some Uwe Boll video game adaptation. I don't know about the 3D but the graphics in 2D were fucking top notch.

I took your advice joey and watched it, I will say that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The trailers didn't really grab me but it's definitely not a bad movie. Paula Patton looked sexy and she was the reason I was even going to check this out and she did not disappoint.

First time I liked Ben Schnetzer in any role. He always plays these characters that are dicks and he fits them well but not in this movie.

Toby Kebbell was unrecognizable and it took me a while to figure out who he was. Didn't know he also voiced one of the main Orcs.
