Triple 9 ($7,741,604)
The film follows a group of criminals and corrupt cops who find themselves in serious trouble. The Russian mafia is blackmailing them, and the only way to deal with them is to perform what is believed to be an extremely challenging heist. Impossible as it may seem, however, they eventually hatch a plan: on one side of town, half of the crew will plan the murder of a rookie cop named Chris Allen (Casey Affleck), and while the rest of the force is distracted by a 999 call ("officer down"), the other half of the corrupt cops will pull off the job. This all seems like it's going to work until Allen winds up surviving the attack and fights back.

I've been waiting a long time for this film and its amazing cast but that trailer still blew my mind.

Hello John Hillcoat, I've been waiting for your return.
Aussie Western
Post-Apocalyptic drama
Prohibition era biopic
And now, a gritty, uber violent crime drama.
With another great ensemble cast, but no Guy Pearce this time.
Was that Cypress Hill playing in the trailer?

Might have been Cypress but I couldn't tell based on that.
I am a huge Red Dead Revolver fan and I don't know if you ever heard about this but five years ago John directed this 30 minute western short for the game too. Tell me you couldn't see a live feature film adaptation of this starring Guy Pearce?

Yes, I could see Pearce in a film adaptation of that VG.
He's one of the most underrated actors working today.

I cannot disagree with that statement.

Have you seen Hillcoat's Aussie western, The Proposition?

Holy shit this looks fantastic. Kate Winslet as some kind of crime Boss? Damn.
No Guy Pierce is a bummer. He works so well with Hillcoat.
That sounded like B-Real from Cypress and the lyrics were from Pigs. Guess it got a modern remix for the movie.

Winslet plays a Russian-Israeli mafia moll described by Hillcoat as "a really glamorous, nasty piece of work".

Great movie. A lot of dirty cops and back stabbing. Kate Winslet was such a bitch in this. I didn't know Gal Gadot was in this either.

With a cast that big they just had no room for a lot of the actors. Good movie but I felt like it could have been quite a bit longer and I might have enjoyed it more.

I absolutely agree. Casey didn't have much to do buy play an oblivious cop until towards the end. Chiwetel and Woody are amazing as always. Great performance and interesting plot but I expected a big blow out ending.

Solid film.
In the end, everyone got what they deserved.
7/10
Hillcoat is now 4-0 with me.
Looking forward to what he does next.

The cast was the only reason I really enjoyed this cause the script was severely lacking but there were so many characters that nobody got any real story.

Felt a little like Street Kings with Keanu, didn't it? Difference is that was a great movie.

Re: Triple 9 ($7,741,604)
Just finished it. Really enjoyed it.
Definitely felt it could have gone for another 20 minutes, but only because of the quality of talent on screen. A lesser known cast with only 2 or 3 names and I'd have been OK with it, but with the talent on screen, I could have easily sat through more.
Goes in the win column for me.
