Bad Boys for Life ($426 Million Worldwide Box Office) Joe-ca10
Sony Pictures has been building up its franchises quickly, and now I’m hearing that Bad Boys 3 is looking like a strong possibility to get going. Safe House scribe David Guggenheim wrote a strong draft that now has Joe Carnahan in early talks to do a quick pass to possibly direct. I’m hearing this is all moving quickly as the studio wants to have the movie for Will Smith to consider as his next slot after Suicide Squad. Smith starred in the first two high-action films with Martin Lawrence in 1995 and 2003. which Michael Bay directed. Carnahan certainly has that combustible style that goes with the franchise. He most recently directed the superb thriller The Grey.

I can work with that. Joe made A-Team, and that's a criminally underrated fun action flick.

Carnahan also directed one of the best in the BMW "The Hire" series called "Ticker" starring Don Cheadle, F. Murray Abraham and (in small brief cameos) Ray Liotta, Robert Patrick, Dennis Haysbert and Clifton Powell.

My exact reaction too, I am not a Bad Boys fan however I am a big Carnahan fan.

I couldn't tell you the last movie I saw that had Martin Lawrence in it though.

Actually that was the last movie with Martin that I watched, though the same could be said for Travolta if not for his small role in Savages. Wild Hogs was a serious pile of crap too. Real career killer for everybody involved, at least Bill Macy has Shameless goin on.

Sony has announced a slate of films that it will be releasing in the next couple of years, and Bad Boys fans are in for a surprise.

This is because Sony will be releasing not one, but two films in the Bad Boys franchise that was first launched 20 years ago and starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

According to ComicBook.com, Sony has given the greenlight to Bad Boys 3 and Bad Boys 4 with release dates of February 17, 2017 and July 3, 2019, respectively.

Lawrence and Smith had starred in the first two films in the series, with Bad Boys 2 released in 2003. The first two Bad Boys films were both directed by none other than Michael Bay, the man behind the first three Transformers movies.

IGN noted that the involvement of the two actors for the new Bad Boys films has not yet been confirmed. However, the report said that The Grey director Joe Carnahan had entered negotiations for re-writing the first draft of Bad Boys 3's script. A possible director role is also being negotiated by the two parties.

The first draft was written by David Guggenheim, IGN said.

The Bad Boys films featured the stories of two cops who always seem to dip their noses into something they are not supposed to, resulting in hilarious and over-the-top adventures.

In addition to the two Bad Boys films, The Wrap revealed that Sony has announced release dates for 14 other movies in its 2016-2017 slates. These include the sequel for The Equalizer, which stars Denzel Washington, and will be released on September 29, 2017 and the Spider-Man reboot for July 28, 2017.

Sony is also releasing original film Money Monster, which is directed by Jodie Foster and top-billed by George Clooney and Julia Roberts. The film is set for release on April 8 next year.

Carnahan has all but confirmed he's directing this next. He started tweeting concept art for the movie today.

Sony Flush With 2017 Franchises With ‘The Dark Tower’, ‘Bad Boys 3’, ‘MIB23’ Slotted
Sony’s The Dark Tower is now really real. Days after Stephen King tweeted his blessing and a confirmation that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are firmed to square off in the leads, Sony Pictures just staked the 2017 Presidents Day weekend for a global launch of the first installment of the Nikolaj Arcel-directed epic fantasy. The studio has also set Bad Boys 3, with Joe Carnahan directing a reteam of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, for June 2, 2017, and it has set Barbie for Mother’s Day weekend, May 12, 2017.

Under Tom Rothman, Sony has been restocking its franchise arsenal, but it didn’t take long. Sony has an enviable 2017 release scheduling, if you add these films to the Spider-Man reboot with Marvel, The Equalizer sequel, another Resident Evil, The Emoji Movie, the Edgar Wright-directed Baby Driver, the Danny Boyle-directed Trainspotting 2, Jumanji, the overseas release of the Blade Runner sequel, another Smurfs, and very possibly MIB23, the long-in-the-works mash-up between the 21 Jump Street and Men in Black franchises that moves Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill from school narcs to alien hunters. Justin Kroll at our sister publication Variety just broke that the studio is in talks with James Bobin on the latter, replacing Star Wars-bound Phil Lord & Chris Miller.

‘Bad Boys 3’ Gets Official Title and Also Delayed

Sony’s next installment in the “Bad Boys” franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence has been pushed back from its June 2, 2017, release date to Jan. 12, 2018. It’s also received an official title: “Bad Boys for Life.”

Joe Carnahan is on board to direct the buddy-cop action comedy, taking over for Michael Bay, who helmed the first two pics. After Smith attached himself to the Netflix pic “Bright,” which starts production this fall, it seemed likely the release date for “Bad Boys” would move, as production wouldn’t get underway until the first quarter of 2017.

Jerry Bruckheimer is back as producer with plot details currently under wraps.

Twentieth Century Fox’s “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” and Paramount animated pic “Sherlock Gnomes” are currently slotted for the same date.

The franchise helped launch Smith into movie stardom in 1995 and has grossed more than $400 million worldwide.

Carnahan Exits 'Bad Boys 3'
Bad Boys 3, a.k.a. Bad Boys for Life, has lost director Joe Carnahan.

An insider tells The Hollywood Reporter that the helmer has left due to scheduling conflicts, but other sources say it was the dreaded "creative differences."

The move is a setback for the project, which has been trying, in fits and stops, to get going after years of development. The involvement of Will Smith had forever been a question mark, but the actor finally committed and Sony, after shifting several times, had recently set a Nov. 8, 2018, release date. A start date in the fall was being eyed.

Carnahan wasn’t just the director for Bad Boys 3, but had also written the most recent draft of the script. Sources say a director search is already underway and a new writer may be hired as well. The project is a hot ticket because it is considered a go movie.

The project seeks to reteam Smith and Martin Lawrence as Miami detectives who leave a trail of mayhem in their wake as they take down bad guys. The first two installments, released in 1995 and 2003, were directed by Michael Bay.

Carnahan won’t be gathering moss, however. The director, whose recent work has been on TV shows such as The Blacklist and Katherine Heigl’s State of Affairs, is actively developing an English-language remake of Indonesian action movie The Raid and wrote the script for the recently wrapped remake of Death Wish, which was directed by Eli Roth and stars Bruce Willis.

Oh well, LOL!

After Smokin Aces and the criminally underrated Narc, Carnahan failed to live up to his potential.

I'm one of the few that thought the The A Team was fantastic. Gutted we'll never get a sequel.

Haven't seen The Grey though.
