According to Collider, the third Planet Of The Apes prequel movie will be called War Of The Planet Of The Apes. Again, when you consider what the previous films have been building towards, most fans probably assumed it'd be something along those lines. Director Matt Reeves originally shot a different ending to Dawn which saw the human forces arrive on the scene via warships, but decided he'd rather leave things a bit more ambiguous. Still, it'd be surprising if the next movie didn't kick off in the aftermath of some type of initial skirmish.

Reeves has previously said that this story would be about Caesar becoming the "seminal figure for ape history", so does that mean we can expect the heroic simian to lead his people to victory? Well, we obviously know how all of this is supposed turn out... but that doesn't mean Reeves won't shake the journey up a bit.

YES! That was the title I was hoping for and makes the most sense considering how Dawn ended.

Woody Harrelson Joins the War of the Apes
War For The Planet Of The Apes ($484,890,536) Woody-10
Woody Harrelson will star as a villain in Fox’s “War for the Planet of the Apes” — the eighth film in the franchise.

Matt Reeves, who directed 2014’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” is returning to helm from a script by Mark Bomback. Chernin Entertainment and Dylan Clark are producing the film, which begins shooting this fall in Vancouver.

The storyline is being kept under wraps; Harrelson will play a character called the Colonel. Gabriel Chavarria of “East Los High” recently joined the movie.

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” a sequel to 2011’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” reboot, grossed more than $700 million worldwide. “War for the Planet of the Apes” will be released in 2017.

Harrelson is nearing production on Rob Reiner’s “LBJ,” in which he stars as President Lyndon B. Johnson. He will be seen next in the final “Hunger Games” movie, “Mockingjay — Part 2,” which opens Nov. 20.

Oh hell yes! Woody isn't just starring but he's the villain...I love it. He was fantastic as the bad guy in Out of the Furnace.

Steve Zahn Suiting Up for 'War' As a Simian
War For The Planet Of The Apes ($484,890,536) Steve-11
Steve Zahn is set to play a new ape character in War For The Planet Of The Apes, the third installment of the rebooted series for 20th Century Fox. Details of his character and the plot are under wraps. He joins a cast that returns Andy Serkis as dominant ape Caesar and Gabriel Chavarria (Low Riders) and Woody Harrelson as human types. Matt Reeves co-wrote the Chernin Entertainment pic with Mark Bomback, who returns to direct after 2014’s Dawn Of the Planet Of The Apes scooped more than $700 million worldwide. Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are producing.

Zahn starred on HBO’s Treme and recurs on Modern Family and also appeared in Dallas Buyers Club. He is in theaters next month as part of the voice cast for Disney/Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur. Other upcoming pics include Captain Fantastic, The Ridiculous 6 and Robodog.

The war rages in War For The Planet Of The Apes as Judy Greer returns in the role of Cornelia, that wife of ape leader Caesar. Karin Konoval is also back as orangutan Maurice, as is Andy Serkis as Caesar. Woody Harrelson is in to play the human villain, while Steve Zahn has also come on board in an unknown primate role.

I keep holding out hope for a return by Malcolm, Alexander or Elli. All three of those human characaters had deep connections with the Apes each in their own way and even if they recast Kodi's Alexander to allow for a time jump, I think it would be an interesting dynamic to see one of these human characters evolve with Caesar over time and how that changes each of them. But I do still believe that 'War' will be the end of Caesar's story and the beginning of his legacy. Hopefully launching the next trilogy which would focus on Blue Eyes and Milo, the sons of Caesar. That's how I'd run this show anyways.

I think the Apes will win. I know this has nothing to do with the Mark Wahlberg movie but are they going for the eventual extinction of humans in this version? Is that where all this is leading up to? I think Caesar is gonna win this fight.

Forgot Harrelson was in this until I saw the trailer. Caesar can speak perfectly now and that voice is so awesome, doesn't sound like Andy Serkis to me. It's incredible how he disappears in these types of roles.

This is either the epic conclusion to the new saga or just the first half but either way, they're going out in a hail of blood and bullets.

I can't get over how incredible this looks and I have absolutely experience 'War' in theaters.

Ever since 'Rise' I've been saying that I hope they go beyond the planned trilogy because you can't have something this epic and then satisfyingly follow the trilogy up with a series re-watch of the 50 year old POA films with their play-doh masks and inconsistent storytelling and enjoy it the same, I know I couldn't. I would love if they continued on with this world for many more films.

LOL Hell no! Who's side are you on?

That's a nice video though, helping chimpanzees and naming it after Caesar is very cool.

Have you ever met people? I've been on the side of the Apes since day one, my OG people.

Traitor to your own kind, you don't deserve to live! You'd be the first one to go in this world. Razz

You think Caesar is going to die in this one? I read some people mention that in the comments.

Caesar will definitely die in this, I expect him and Woody's Colonel character to kill each other in the final battle before the Apes win the world war. They can follow his sons Blue Eyes and Milo if the franchise doesn't end there.
