ER's Vanessa Marquez Shot and Killed During Altercation With Police
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 Vaness11
Vanessa Marquez, an actress best known for her role as a nurse on “ER,” was shot and killed by South Pasadena police on Thursday, authorities confirmed on Friday.

Officers were called to Marquez’s home in the 1100 block of Fremont Avenue by a landlord to check on her welfare. When the officers arrived around 12 p.m., she was suffering from seizures and appeared unable to take care of herself. Officers called out paramedics and a mental health clinician, and continued to talk with her. After about 90 minutes, Marquez, 49, armed herself with a BB gun and pointed it at the officers, causing them to open fire, said Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.

South Pasadena, a municipality separate from neighboring Pasadena, is eight miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Mendoza told reporters that Marquez appeared to be going through “mental problems” and seemed to be “gravely disabled.”

She appeared as Ana Delgado in the Edward James Olmos-starring film “Stand and Deliver” in 1988, and in 27 episodes of “ER” as nurse Wendy Goldman. Her other credits include the series “Malcom & Eddie” and “Wiseguy.”

Last October, Marquez alleged that she was blacklisted from “ER” by co-star George Clooney after complaining of racial discrimination and sexual harassment.

“Clooney helped blacklist me when I spoke up abt harassment on ER.’women who dont play the game lose career’I did,” she wrote on Twitter.

Clooney issued a statement at the time saying he had nothing to do with casting on the show.

“I had no idea Vanessa was blacklisted,” he said. “I take her at her word. I was not a writer or a producer or a director on that show. I had nothing to do with casting. I was an actor and only an actor. If she was told I was involved in any decision about her career then she was lied to. The fact that I couldn’t affect her career is only surpassed by the fact that I wouldn’t.”

Marquez also wrote on social media that she was suffering from immune disorders, including celiac disease. She said several times that she was diagnosed as “terminal,” was suffering from chronic pain, and was “homebound.”

Marquez had alleged she was groped on the set of “ER” well before the #MeToo movement last fall. She claimed that when she complained to the producers, she was exiled.

“I was blacklisted and my career was over at 26,” she wrote on Facebook in January 2017. “Why are women afraid to speak up ‘at the time?’ Because everything they’ve ever worked for is RIPPED away from them. For being a goddamn victim and expecting protection.”

She also wrote extensively about her health problems and said she was entering “that Norma Desmond stage that some actors do. Watching their old stuff on tv.”

“A person only has so much strength and I’m afraid I’ve used all mine up,” she wrote. “Why couldn’t my dream have lasted for more than just those few years?”

After a 90 minute standoff where nobody was in danger but her, she picked up a BB GUN and the police had "no choice" but to use deadly force?

Yup, sounds right on par for the police course.

Eh. The BB Gun plays into the left's narrative, but it's an issue only discernible after the fact.

In the heat of the moment, cops can't tell real guns from imitation firearms.

Note to dumb cunts ... get into a standoff with cops, but don't want to get shot? Dont pick up anything that slightly resembles a gun.

It doesn't even have to resemble a gun, you could be holding a literal help sign and they'd scream GUN and fire.

They'd have killed her if she pulled finger guns or pointed a white daisy. Nobody is ever more afraid or unsure of what to do, than the heavily armed police. What is non-lethal force even for? They could have bean bagged or gased her but they opted for lethal force because it amounts to nothing more than a paid vacation and that is way easier than learning how to do your fucking job. The police will use lethal on a six year old and claim it was the only choice.

Burt Reynolds Dies: Iconic Star Of ‘Deliverance’, ‘Smokey And The Bandit’ & ‘Boogie Nights’ Was 82
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 Burt-r10
Burt Reynolds, a top Hollywood star of the 1970s whose hits ranged from such classic, easy-going drive-in fare as Smokey and the Bandit and to the intense hunted-men drama Deliverance, died today at the Jupiter Medical Center in Florida. He was 82.

Reynolds was a bona fide cultural phenomenon who became a frequent guest of Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. He was the first major celebrity nude male centerfold and off-screen romantic partner of such stars as Sally Field and Dinah Shore and achieved respect among critics and fans alike for the late-career peak in 1997’s Boogie Nights.

He was among the most popular movie stars on the 1970s, starting with the gritty Deliverance (1972) — in which he starred alongside Jon Voight and Ned Beatty — and continuing with leads in hits including Shamus (1972), The Longest Yard (1974), Gator (1976), Smokey and the Bandit (1977) and its 1980 sequel, football dramedy Semi-Tough (1977), the stuntman tale Hooper (1978) and Starting Over (1980).

Reynolds was a burgeoning football star at Florida State University in the mid-1950s when a knee injury interrupted that career. He eventually returned to the team but reaggravated the injury in a car wreck and was forced to hang up his cleats. After leaving school, he soon scored Tv roles and was toplining his own series — NBC’s two-season Riverboat — by 1959. He went on to guest or recur in the 1960s on such classic shows as Gunsmoke, Route 66, The FBI and the final hourlong episode of The Twilight Zone.

He landed a second starring TV series in 19966, playing full-blooded Iroquois Indian police detective in ABC’s Hawk. It lasted only one season but, as he movie career took off, NBC re-aired the series during the summer of 1976. Reynolds continued to work in TV and film through the ’60s before landing a third toplining TV series. This time it was ABC’s Dan August (1970), playing a detective who got personally involved in his cases. August always got his man, but the show was not renewed after its rookie year. That series also re-aired as his big-screen fame grew, with CBS running episode in 1973 and 1975.

But everything was about to change for Burt Reynolds.

After starring with Raquel Welch in the 1972 romp Fuzz, he co-starred in Deliverance, director John Boorman disturbing film about a four friends who take a canoe adventure in the Georgia wilderness. It became one of the year’s top-grossing films, and Reynolds’ film career was off.

Mac Miller Found Dead of Suspected Overdose at 26
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 Mac-mi10
Rapper Mac Miller was found dead on Friday of an apparent overdose, Variety has confirmed. He was 26.

He was reportedly found in his Studio City, Calif., home. Variety has reached out to Miller’s camp for more information.

Miller, whose real name is Malcolm James McCormick, had struggled with substance abuse in the past. Just last month, the Los Angeles Attorney’s Office officially charged the rapper with a DUI stemming from a car accident in May in the San Fernando Valley.

He had been open about his struggles previously, referencing drug abuse and death in his music, particularly in the largely autobiographical 2014 mixtape “Faces.” “I used to rap super openly about really dark s—,” he told Vulture in a profile that published on Thursday. “That’s what I was experiencing at the time. That’s fine, that’s good, that’s life. It should be all the emotions.”

Miller had been in a long-term relationship with Ariana Grande, which ended this past May. Shortly after his car accident and arrest that same month, Grande tweeted “pls take care of yourself.”

When discussing their breakup, Grande made it clear addiction was part of the reason for their split. “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be,” she wrote on Twitter. “I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his s— together is a very major problem.”

Miller had just been preparing to embark on a U.S. tour after releasing his most recent album, “Swimming,” on Aug. 3. It was set to kick off on Oct. 27 in San Francisco.

“I just wanna go on tour,” he tweeted on Thursday. “The show is going to be special every night. I wish it started tomorrow.”

“Swimming” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, supported by singles “Small Worlds,” “Self Care,” and “What’s the Use?” In “Self Care,” he references his DUI and arrest, rapping, “That Mercedes drove me crazy, I was speedin’ / Somebody save me from myself, yeah / Tell them they can take that bullsh– elsewhere / Self care, we gonna be good / Hell yeah, they lettin’ me go.”

In the music video for the single, he also uses a knife to carve knife to carve the words “Memento mori” — “remember you have to die” in Latin — into the lid of the coffin.

Aside from his music, Miller’s reality show “Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family” ran for two seasons on MTV2.

Scott Wilson, 'The Walking Dead' and 'In Cold Blood' Actor Dies at 76
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 Twds4_10
Scott Wilson, the Georgia-born actor admired for the intensity he demonstrated in such dark, disturbing projects as In Cold BloodThe Walking Dead and The Ninth Configuration, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 76.

Details were not immediately available, but the official Twitter account for The Walking Dead comic book, on which the popular AMC show of the same name is based, confirmed the news Saturday. "We are deeply saddened to report that Scott Wilson, the incredible actor who played Hershel on #TheWalkingDead, has passed away at the age of 76," the statement read. "Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in paradise, Scott. We love you."

At New York Comic-Con 2018, Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang announced that Wilson would reprise his role as Hershel in season nine — which premieres Sunday — though she offered no word on the timing of his appearance or how many episodes in which he was slated to appear. However, sources have confirmed that Wilson had filmed some scenes. The announcement was made a little more than an hour before news of Wilson's passing spread on social media.

In a statement to THR, a spokesperson for AMC said: "Scott will always be remembered as a great actor, and we all feel fortunate to have known him as an even better person. The character he embodied on The Walking Dead, Hershel, lived at the emotional core of the show. Like Scott in our lives, Hershel was a character whose actions continue to inform our characters’ choices to this day. Our hearts go out to his wife, family, friends and to the millions of fans who loved him. Scott will be missed."

CSI fans know Wilson as the crooked Las Vegas casino owner Sam Braun, the father of Marg Helgenberger's Catherine Willows, and he played the troubled neighbor Judd Travers in the three Shiloh family films released in 1996, 1999 and 2006.

Wilson also was memorable in The Great Gatsby (1974), where his character, the owner of a filling station, shoots and kills Jay Gatsby (Robert Redford) while he's lounging in his mansion swimming pool, then turns the gun on himself. He often brought anxiety and melancholy to his roles.

After portraying the murder suspect Harvey Oberst in his first feature, the Oscar best picture winner In the Heat of the Night (1967), Wilson was cast as real-life murderer Dick Hickock for In Cold Blood (1967). The chilling documentary-like drama was directed by Richard Brooks, who also adapted Truman Capote's sensational 1965 best-selling novel for the screenplay.

Hickock had met fellow drifter Perry Smith (played by Robert Blake in the film) in jail, and after they were paroled, they headed to a farm in Holcomb, Kansas, for a robbery. Finding little cash on hand, they killed four members of the Clutter family — the husband, wife and two of their teenage children — in 1959. (The pair spoke with Capote for the book before being executed in 1965).

Wilson, then 24, got the job in part because of his resemblance to Hickock.

"Every actor in the English-speaking world wanted those two roles, including [Paul] Newman and [Steve] McQueen," Wilson recalled in a 1996 interview with the Los Angeles Times. "Brooks hired two 'unknowns,' and he wanted to keep it that way. We were treated like two killers he had somehow run across."

Wilson, Blake and Capote posed on a dusty stretch of Kansas highway for the cover of Life magazine on May 12, 1967, with the headline "Nightmare Revisited," though the young actors went unidentified on the front. And for a billboard on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, Wilson noted, "Brooks had the poster with our eyes taken down and replaced with one of the real killers' eyes."

Murder scenes were filmed on location at the Clutter home.

Brooks set up a private screening for Wilson and Blake after the movie was finished, and "after seeing the film, I went to the restroom and threw up," he told Elvis Mitchell in a 2017 interview. "I realized what I had just seen. I was part of something that would stand up for a period of time, a classic."

The blue-eyed Wilson, now with a bushy white beard, saw his career revitalized in 2011 when he joined AMC's The Walking Dead in the second season as Hershel Greene, a stubborn farmer and veterinarian who loses a leg before eventually meeting his end — by decapitation — in season four. (Fans were very sorry to see him go.) He filmed the series in his home state of Georgia.

As Hershel, Wilson often provided the sage voice of wisdom in the ear of lead character Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and other survivors of the apocalypse. Wilson told THR he never auditioned for the role: "My rep called and said they were interested in me for two to three episodes," he said. "I asked what show it was about and they said zombies. I said, 'Give me some good news.'"

After watching the first season, Wilson was more encouraged about his future with The Walking Dead. "I hadn't done a lot of TV at the time," he said. "I did CSI and played Marg Helgenberger's father and got that after working with Danny Cannon on a film. I found it very interesting working on Walking Dead because I'd never really played the same character for that amount of time; it's different than doing a play or film."

Co-star Khary Payton, who portrays Ezekiel on the show, shared his condolences: "The first time I met Scott Wilson, he gave me a big hug and said that this thing I had become a part of … was a family. He said I had a responsibility to take care of it. I have tried very hard to do that, sir. & I will continue. I promise. See you on the other side, my friend." Fellow TWD actor Michael Cudlitz added, "Rest easy my friend." And Jesus actor Tom Payne said, "Goodbye Scott Wilson you absolute legend."

In the psychological thriller The Ninth Configuration (1980), written and directed by William Peter Blatty of Exorcist fame, Wilson played Captain Billy Cutshaw, a former astronaut in an insane asylum for military personnel, receiving a Golden Globe supporting actor nomination for his work.

He also portrayed a prison chaplain in Sean Penn's Dead Man Walking (1995), and his character, a john, was slain by Charlize Theron's victim turned serial killer in Patty Jenkins' Monster (2003).

For a performer of his obvious ability, Wilson went lengthy stretches without working. He filled one slow period by painting drug stores.

"Not many people survive a long period of time as actors," Wilson told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 2016. "I've been fortunate to have a long career and play a variety of roles. I've had my down periods. I went four years without work. You have stretches where it feels like starting over. But a lot of people never even get the first break. You're incredibly fortunate if you get that."

William Delano Wilson was born in Atlanta on March 29, 1942. After the death of his father, he graduated from Thomasville High School in 1960 and was awarded an athletic scholarship to Georgia's Southern Polytechnic State University.

Wilson, though, didn't stay in school; instead, he spent three days hitchhiking to Los Angeles, arriving with $40 in his pocket. One night, he got drunk and wound up in an acting class.

"At the end of the class, the teacher came up to me and said, 'I don't know what your problem is; don't come back to my class drunk,'" he recalled in a 2012 interview. "I went back the next week to apologize. He gave me a monologue to do from a Eugene O'Neill one-act play, The Long Voyage Home. I came back the next week and did it and said, 'This is it, this is what I want to do.'"

Wilson spent the next five-plus years participating in acting classes and workshops and appearing in local plays like Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.

His friend's stepfather was an agent who introduced Wilson to casting director Lynn Stalmaster, who recommended the untested actor to director Norman Jewison and producer Walter Mirisch for In the Heat of the Night.

"It was heaven," he told Mitchell. "Here I was parking cars and pumping gas and doing odd jobs to support myself, then all of a sudden I'm working with people that you talk about in acting class." His Southern accent, which he had been trying to lose, helped him get the job.

Wilson bonded with In the Heat of the Night star Sidney Poitier, who recommended him to Brooks for In Cold Blood. (Wilson was 6 when he met Blake the first time, getting an autograph from the actor who was then playing Little Beaver in a series of Westerns at Republic Pictures.)

Wilson appeared in Sydney Pollack's Castle Keep (1969), John Frankenheimer's The Gypsy Moths (1969) and Robert Aldrich's The Grissom Gang (1971), then played a disillusioned rookie in Richard Fleischer's The New Centurions (1972).

Wilson later starred as a private who falls in love in postwar Poland in Krzysztof Zanussi's A Year of the Quiet Sun (1984), which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and reteamed with the Polish director in Our God's Brother (1997), a film adaptation of a play written years earlier by Pope John Paul II.

He also appeared as test pilot Scott Crossfield in The Right Stuff (1983) and in other films like Johnny Handsome (1989), Geronimo: An American Legend (1993), Elvis and the Colonel: The Untold Story (1993), The Grass Harp (1995) — based on another Capote novel — Clay Pigeons (1998), The Way of the Gun (2000), Pearl Harbor (2001), Junebug (2005), The Heartbreak Kid (2007) and Hostiles (2017).

Wilson also recently had gigs on such TV shows as BoschThe OA and, from Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara, Damien. His Bosch co-star Titus Welliver was one of the first to comment on Wilson's passing on Saturday night. "Scott Wilson has departed. I am heartbroken. We are fewer. Go easy into the light brother," he wrote on his Twitter account.

Survivors include his wife, Heavenly, an artist and attorney whom he married in 1977. His mother, Jewell, died in March 2017 at age 102.

All in all, Wilson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2011, he "accomplished more than I would have hoped to have accomplished. I don't want to be a big movie star. I can be someone who walks the streets and not get mobbed. Yet I want to be as fine an actor as I can be. I am still striving for that — to be as good as I can be."

Whitey Bulger, Boston Mob Moss Murdered in Prison at 89
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 La-me-10
James “Whitey” Bulger, the notorious Boston gangster who was also the subject for Johnny Depp’s 2015 crime film “Black Mass,” was found dead in a West Virginia federal prison on Tuesday, according to U.S. Department of Justice. He was 89.

NBC News, citing the Boston Herald, said that Bulger had just recently arrived at the high-security penitentiary.

According to the DoJ, Bulger was found unresponsive at 8:20 A.M. at the U.S. Penitentiary Hazelton, in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. They said life-saving measures were initiated immediately by staff, but that Bulger was subsequently pronounced dead by the Preston County Medical Examiner.

The Boston Globe reported that Bulger was killed by an inmate with mafia ties. The DoJ said in a statement that the FBI has opened an investigation into Bulger’s death. The federal agent said no staff or other inmates were injured, and at no time was the public in danger.

Bulger was the leader of the dangerous Boston-based Winter Hill Gang. He was convicted in 2013 of participating in 11 murders that stretched from Massachusetts to Florida to Oklahoma.

Bulger, who was serving a life sentence, was one of the nation’s most-wanted fugitives for 16 years before he was captured in Santa Monica, Calif. in 2011.

Along with Depp’s portrayal of Bulger in Scott Cooper’s “Black Mass,” the mob boss was the inspiration for Jack Nicholson’s character in Martin Scorsese’s 2007 best picture winner, “The Departed.”

Whitey's been safely living in a Florida prison since 2011 but a few weeks in Oklahoma and his old buddies were finally able to get to him after all these years with a little help from our government.

An old school message for an old school bastard. They used some of the same kind of brutal tactics he loved used on his own victims so I say congrats to Whitey on his well earned and long over due death and I hope it was the most pain he ever felt.

12:09 PM PT -- A prison source tells us Bulger -- who is wheelchair bound -- was in general population Tuesday morning. We're told he was approached by 3 other inmates who wheeled him into a corner that could not be seen by surveillance cameras.

Our source says the inmates beat Bulger -- one used a lock in a sock as a weapon -- until he was unconscious. They also attempted to gouge his eyes out with some type of shiv, but were unsuccessful. Bulger fell to the ground covered in bruises and with several dents in his head.

As for the eyes, we've been doing some research -- back in the days of Murder Inc., (the 1940s gangsters, not the rappers) mobsters would gouge out the eyes of witnesses who talked to cops.

I did not about this though Lee's last couple years were pretty rough but I figured he'd keep on tickin.

How many days do you think will pass before Hollywood plunders his remaining catalog rights while simultaneously developing multi biopics, two or three?

Ricky Jay, Master Magician and Actor in ‘Deadwood,’ ‘Boogie Nights,’ Dies at 72
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 Rickyj10
Ricky Jay, a master magician who also acted in films and TV shows such as “Boogie Nights,” “House of Games” and “Deadwood,” died Saturday in Los Angeles. He was 72.

Jay’s manager, Winston Simone, said he died of natural causes, adding, “He was one of a kind. We will never see the likes of him again.”

His attorney Stan Coleman confirmed his death. His partner in the Deceptive Practices company, Michael Weber, tweeted, “I am sorry to share that my remarkable friend, teacher, collaborator and co-conspirator is gone.”

A New Yorker profile called him “the most gifted sleight of hand artist alive,” and Jay was also known for his card tricks and memory feats.

He appeared in several David Mamet movies, including “House of Games,” “The Spanish Prisoner,” “Things Change,” “Redbelt” and “State and Main.”

Steve Martin, with whom he appeared in “The Spanish Prisoner,” described Jay in the New Yorker profile, “I sort of think of Ricky as the intellectual élite of magicians. He’s expertly able to perform and yet he knows the theory, history, literature of the field.”

In “Deadwood,” he played card sharp Eddie Sawyer during the first season, and also wrote for the show.

In the 1997 James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies,” Jay played a cyber-terrorist to Pierce Brosnan’s Bond.

He also provided the narration for movies such as Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia.” His one-man Broadway show directed by Mamet, “Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants,” was recorded for an HBO special in 1996.

With Weber, he created the Deceptive Practices company, which provided solutions to movies and TV productions such as the wheelchair that hid Gary Sinise’s legs in “Forrest Gump.” They also worked on films including “The Prestige,” “The Illusionist” and “Oceans Thirteen.”

Jay, who was born Richard Jay Potash in Brooklyn, was introduced to magic by his grandfather. He began performing in New York, opening for rock bands. Jay first worked in film with on Caleb Deschanel’s “The Escape Artist.”

A documentary about his life, “Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay,” was released in 2012.

A student of all facets of magic, prestidigitation and trickery, he maintained a large library of historic works and wrote two books, as well as numerous articles for the New Yorker; he also frequently lectured at museums and universities.

Tony Award Winner Philip Bosco Dies at 88
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 Philip10
Veteran character actor Philip Bosco, who won a Tony Award in 1989 for “Lend Me a Tenor” as an opera impresario and was nominated five other times, died Monday, according to his grandson, Luke Bosco. He was 88.

Bosco received his first Tony nomination for “Rape of the Belt” in 1960. His other nominations were for  “Heartbreak House,” “You Never Can Tell,” “Moon Over Buffalo” and “Twelve Angry Men.”

Bosco also appeared in “A Man for All Seasons,” “King Lear,” “The Crucible,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial,” “An Inspector Calls,” “The Heiress, ” Twelfth Night” and “Copenhagen.” He was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 1998.

Luke Bosco wrote in a Facebook post: “My beloved grandfather, an indomitable force in the theater and a man of goodness beyond measure, passed away yesterday evening. We will not soon forget your grace, your courage, your resolute will, or the love which you found so easily all around you. You are my hero and a hero to so many other young actors across the generations that strive for greatness not for glory’s sake, but for the love of the art. And let’s not forget your irresistible urge to crack a joke in any setting. I never knew a man that could congratulate and taunt his fellow nominees in a single breath. You will be dearly missed.”

In feature films, Bosco starred in Tamara Jenkins’ “The Savages” as the estranged father of Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s characters. He portrayed the boss who fired Sigourney Weaver’s character and hires Melanie Griffith’s character at the end of “Working Girl.” His television work included a Daytime Emmy Award in 1988 for his appearance in the ABC Afterschool Special “Read Between The Lines”and he was a series regular on FX’s “Damages.”

Other feature credits included “A Lovely Way to Die,” “The Pope of Greenwich Village,” “Children of a Lesser God,” “Three Men and a Baby,” “The First Wives Club” and “Wonder Boys.”

Bosco was born in Jersey City and attended the Catholic University of America. He married Nancy Ann Dunkle in 1957. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Celia, Lisa Bosco-Tafro, Diane Bosco and Jennifer Bosco; three sons, Philip, Christopher and John; two brothers, Donald and David; and 15 grandchildren.

Albert Finney Dies: ‘Miller’s Crossing’, ‘Big Fish' Actor Was 82
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 Rexfea12

Oscar-nominated actor Albert Finney, one of the great British actors of his generation who made a worldwide name for himself in 1963’s Tom Jones and maintained a strong career through 2012’s Skyfall, died Thursday in London. He was 82.

The cause of death, according to The New York Times, was a chest infection. He died at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London Thursday afternoon. In 2011 Finney disclosed he was undergoing treatment for kidney cancer.

Among his Oscar-nominated performances were roles in Tom Jones, Murder on the Orient Express, The Dresser, Under the Volcano and Erin Brockovich.

Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Finney moved quickly into film, gaining immediate acclaim for his 1960 debut in Tony Richardson’s The Entertainer. With that year’s Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, produced by Richardson but directed by Karel Reisz, Finney secured his position, along with Alan Bates and Tom Courtenay, at the vanguard of British film’s “angry young man” genre. The performance won Finney a BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer To Leading Film Roles.

By 1963, with his charismatic performance as the roguish Tom Jones (another Richardson-directed role), Finney had an Oscar nomination on his resume.

Other highlights of his shape-shifting career include Two for the Road (1967), Scrooge (1970), Annie (1982), The Dresser (1983), Miller’s Crossing (1990), Erin Brockovich (2000), Big Fish (2003), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead (2007) and The Bourne Legacy (2012).

While his early reputation was staked largely on drama, Finney found some of what would become his most beloved roles in outsized comedic performances, from his mean-as-dirt Ebenezer Scrooge in the 1970 musical version of the Dickens classic, to his Daddy Warbucks in Annie.

On the TV side, Finney made his debut for American television in 1984 with the starring role in Pope John Paul II. He was Emmy-nominated for his role in the 1990 HBO movie The Image, and won the award, along with, among others, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, for his performance as Winston Churchill in 2002’s HBO-BBC co-production The Gathering Storm.

In addition to his Emmy, two BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globes, Finney, who had long continued to perform on the stage primarily in London, was nominated for two Tony Awards, the first in 1964 for Luther and the second in 1968 for A Day in the Death of Joe Egg.

Finney was married to British actress Jane Wenham from 1957-61 and, from 1970-78 to French actress Anouk Aimee. Since 2006 he was married to Penelope Delmage, who survives him, as does Simon Finney, a camera operator and his son with Wenham.

Lisa Sheridan, ‘Halt and Catch Fire,’ ‘Invasion’ Actress, Dies at 44
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 Lisa-s10
Lisa Sheridan, an actress who appeared on a numerous top TV shows including “Halt and Catch Fire,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “Invasion,” has died. She was 44.
Sheridan passed away at her New Orleans apartment on Monday, according to her manager, Mitch Clem.

“We all loved Lisa very much and are devastated by the loss we all feel,” Clem told People. “She passed away Monday morning, at home, in her apartment in New Orleans. We are waiting for a coroners report on cause of death.”

However, Clem said that Sheridan had not taken her own life: “The family has unequivocally confirmed that this is not a suicide. Any suggestion to the contrary is absolutely, 100 percent unfounded.”

Actress Donna D’Errico paid tribute to her “Only God Can” co-star in a Facebook post Wednesday  night, writing: “I just received news that my dear friend, actress Lisa Sheridan, has passed away. She was found Monday morning. I am sitting here stunned. Lisa and I filmed a movie together 5 years ago and became very close on set and remained close friends after filming ended.

“It’s so rare to find kind, gentle souls like hers in this industry, this city … even this world. Truly one of the most genuinely sweet and gentle people I’ve ever come across in my life.”

Sheridan was previously engaged to “Office Space” actor Ron Livingston after they met shooting the 2000 film “Beat.” The pair were together until 2003.

Born in Macon, Georgia, Sheridan attended the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama before embarking on a 20-year acting career. She also appeared on “The Mentalist,” “The 4400,” “Saving Grace,” “Private Practice” and “Scandal,” among other hit TV shows.

I'm probably the only one here who remembers the very short lived 2000 Fox series starring Ethan Embry "FreakyLinks" but Lisa Sheridan was his co-star on that series. I used to love Freakylinks even for as short of a time as it was on and it was one of my first real favorite sci-fi fantasy type shows when I was a teen so it left an impression. I haven't seen Lisa too often since then but it's a damn shame she died so young.

In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 D02zq810
Riverdale and Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry died today after suffering a massive stroke, his representative confirmed to Deadline. He was 52.

The following statement was released by Rogers & Cowan on behalf of the Perry family.” He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Perry had been hospitalized since Wednesday after he suffered an apparent stroke.

Perry currently starred as Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews, on the CW’s Riverdale. He began his career in the early 1980s, becoming a household name on Beverly Hills 90210.

He also filmed a role in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Charles Manson movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

It was just last week that Fox announced it had closed a deal for a reboot of Beverly Hills 90210. Titled 90210, the show from CBS TV Studios received a six-episode order to air this summer. Original cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling had signed to return to the reboot, but Perry had not.

Fuck, I'd been checking for updates this last week but hadn't heard anything since he was induced into a coma so I knew the outlook wasn't favorable.

I know I'm the only guy here who liked Luke's work but 8 Seconds, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Jeremiah will always have a special place in my memory and it's a shame that he died so young.

An 80's comedy icon and a 90's teen icon share the same death date now.

Say what you want about 90210, that show was a monster hit when we were kids and everybody knew what it was, whether they watched or not and Luke was a 90's sex symbol for an entire generation of women. I wasn't much of a fan of the show because for the most part, it all went over my head at that young of an age but we had one tv in the living room and we all shared it. My sister loved 90210, so I had to watch and a few moments from that series are still ingrained in my memory even though it's been more than 20 years since I last saw an episode.

Really? I never listened to them I just remember them for that insanely that obnoxious song "Smack My Bitch Up" that played on the radio for a decade, that one track convinced me to skip the rest of their career.

Lead singers sure like to off themselves, it's never the drummer.....

‘Boyz n the Hood’ Director John Singleton Dies at 51
In Memorium (Joe Flaherty Dies: ‘SCTV’ And ‘Freaks And Geeks’ Actor Was 82) - Page 8 John-s10
John Singleton, writer-director of “Boyz n the Hood” and industry pioneer, who was the first African American to earn an Oscar nomination for best director, has died. He was 51.

Singleton suffered a stroke after experiencing weakness in his legs, and was admitted to the hospital on April 17. He was taken off life support Monday and died a few hours later at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

His family issued a statement, saying: “We are sad to relay that John Singleton has died. John passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends. We want to thank the amazing doctors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for their expert care and kindness and we again want thank all of John’s fans, friends and colleagues for all of the love and support they showed him during this difficult time.” — The Singleton Family.

He grew up in South-Central Los Angeles, which became the setting for much of his work as a writer and director. He attended USC film school and turned his student thesis into the screenplay for 1991’s landmark “Boyz n the Hood.”

Fresh out of college with no credits under his belt, Singleton boldly insisted he direct the movie when Columbia Pictures approached him about optioning the “Boyz” screenplay. “I wasn’t going to have somebody from Idaho or Encino [Los Angeles] direct this movie,” he recounted at a 25th anniversary screening.

“Boyz n the Hood” starred Ice Cube and Cuba Gooding Jr., in a raw look at life for African-American youths in communities torn apart by drugs and violence. The movie earned Oscar nominations for Singleton for original screenplay and for directing. In addition to being the first black director to land an Academy Award nom, he was also the youngest person to nab a directing mention, at the age of 24.

“As the movie was going along, I was learning how to direct,” Singleton explained at the anniversary screening. “As it becomes more intense and comes on to the third act, the camera work is more and more fluid, because I’m getting better and better — and taking more chances.”

Roger Ebert wrote on its release, “By the end of ‘Boyz n the Hood,’ I realized I had seen not simply a brilliant directorial debut, but an American film of enormous importance.”

He then moved into music videos, directing Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time” with Eddie Murphy, Iman and Magic Johnson.

Singleton went on to direct such films as “Poetic Justice” (1993), “Higher Learning” (1995), a remake of “Shaft” (2000) and the second installment of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, 2003’s “2 Fast 2 Furious.”

Singleton, who had said he was profoundly affected by the death of Tupac Shakur, had signed on to direct the “All Eyez on Me” Tupac biopic, but left the project due to creative differences.

He was vocal about Hollywood’s poor track record in recruiting black filmmakers to tell black stories. At a Hollywood Masters talk at Loyola Marymount University, Singleton said, “If you’re doing a story that is African-American-themed, you have to have black people on that can give you advice that are not insecure — they are not just there to show their damn face. That actually can challenge and listen and say, ‘Maybe you should think about this,’ in the development process. That kind of thing.”

As a producer, he shepherded films including Craig Brewer’s “Hustle & Flow” and “Illegal Tender.”

“There’s hardly any precedent for a guy like me to have the career that I’ve had,” Singleton told Variety in 2017. “Because I grew up the way I grew up, I’m an in-your-face kind of guy. I developed that as a defense mechanism to survive in the streets. I do that in Hollywood in the service of my passion.”

Singleton turned his attention to working in TV in recent years as his filmmaking opportunities became narrower and less interesting to him. He earned an Emmy nomination for directing the powerful “The Race Card” episode of FX’s 2016 miniseries “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

“I got them in a room. I said, ‘It’s an L.A. story. I’m from L.A. I met O.J. I gotta be part of this,’” Singleton said. “I said, ‘You guys gotta get this right. You have to have a real black perspective on this — you can’t just whitewash it.’”

Singleton left the room with a commitment that led to his directing the episode “The Race Card,” an unflinching look at the racial politics in play during Mark Fuhrman’s testimony and the defense team’s “redecorating” of Simpson’s Brentwood home for the jury’s visit. That episode of the much-lauded series landed Singleton nominations for an Emmy and Directors Guild Award.

The following year he launched two drama series, BET’s “Rebel” and FX’s “Snowfall.” “Rebel,” which revolved around a savvy female detective, lasted one season. “Snowfall,” which examines the rise of the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, has been renewed for a third season to air in 2019.

He also directed episodes of “Billions” and “Empire.”

Singleton is survived by five children.

Peter Mayhew, Chewbacca in 'Star Wars' Films, Dies at 74

Peter Mayhew, who became known to fans worldwide as the lovable Wookiee Chewbacca in the Star Wars galaxy of films, has died. He was 74.

The actor died Tuesday in his North Texas home with his family by his side. His official Twitter account shared the news Thursday. Mayhew had undergone spinal surgery in July in an effort to improve his mobility.

The London native played Chewbacca in Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1983), Revenge of the Sith (2005) and The Force Awakens (2015).

Mayhew had done some minor acting — he played a minotaur in the Ray Harryhausen fantasy Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977) — and was working as a hospital orderly when he tried out for the part of Chewbacca. He got the role based on his physique, as writer-director George Lucas was in desperate need of someone who would be able to play taller than Darth Vader. (In his prime, Mayhew stood 7-foot-3.)

After wrapping the first Star Wars, he went back to work as an orderly and did not leave the job for good until the release of Return of the Jedi, after which he made a living off of Chewbacca, becoming a favorite on the fan convention circuit.

While Mayhew did not provide the voice of the 200-year-old Wookiee (that was created by sound designer Ben Burtt), many credit the body language and expressiveness of the eyes the actor brought to the role in making Chewbacca a beloved character. It was a part that Mayhew would take on his whole life and well beyond the movies, reprising the role for appearances on the Donny and Marie Show and The Muppet Show and, more recently, Glee.

"Peter was larger than life in so many ways … a gentle giant playing a gentle giant. Rest in peace," Disney CEO Bob Iger wrote on Twitter.

Finnish-born basketball player-turned-actor Joonas Suotamo took over for Mayhew in some installments, including Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) and the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Mayhew worked as a consultant on The Last Jedi (2017) to pass the baton to Suotamo, and at that film's premiere in 2017, he spent time chatting with his young protege and with Star Wars veteran Mark Hamill.

"He was the gentlest of giants. A big man with an even bigger heart who never failed to make me smile & a loyal friend who I loved dearly. I'm grateful for the memories we shared & I'm a better man for just having known him. Thanks Pete," Hamill tweeted Thursday.

"Chewbacca is one of the most iconic characters in the history of film, and Peter's development and portrayal of this beloved Wookiee has spread so much joy around the globe," Suotamo wrote after he was cast. "Peter's guidance and kindness have been invaluable gifts which warmed my spirit and prepared me for this journey. I aspire to make Peter proud and bring Star Wars fans the Chewie they know and love."

A private memorial will take place June 29, and there will be a gathering for fans at EmpireConLA in December. Mayhew is survived by his wife, Angie, and three children.

Peggy Lipton, of The Mod Squad and Twin Peaks, Dead at 72

Peggy Lipton, well known for her roles on TV’s The Mod Squad and Twin Peaks, died on Saturday following a battle with cancer. She was 72.

Lipton’s passing was announced Rashida and Kidada Jones, her daughters via her 1974-1990 marriage to music producer Quincy Jones. “She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side,” Lipton’s daughters said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times. “We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her.”

Lipton had first been diagnosed with and treated for colon cancer at age 56, when during a routine colonoscopy doctors found a stage III tumor.

After launching her TV career with a series of guest spots, Lipton landed the plum role or flower child-turned-undercover cop Julie Barnes in ABC’s Mod Squad, which also starred Michael Cole and Clarence Williams III, and from 1968 to 1973.

Most recently, Lipton guested in a July 2017 episode of Claws and reprised her role as Norma Jennings in Showtime’s summer 2017 Twin Peaks revival. (Lipton first played Norma, owner of the Double R Diner, on the original, two-and-done ABC series.)

The actress’ previous TV credits included (but by no means were limited to) Angie Tribeca (where she played mom to series star/real-life daughter Rashida Jones), TV’s Crash, Alias and Popular.

I still haven't seen the revival but that is good to know.

However, the cast has been dropping like flies ever since then.

She's been out of the public eye for so long that I didn't either.
