Random Thoughts

Ha! Not 12-hour days. My typical working hours are now 9 to 5. Most days I stay til 6ish because I gotta take care o’ bidnezz. We are revamping our financial statements and also setting up metrics for the new CFO who started last month. Once this is done, easy street.

In my profession, we are not qualified for overtime. That is, if a firm chooses to give us bonuses for working long hours, that's out of the kindness of the firm. The law says we do not have to get jack or shit. I am what New York calls an "exempt employee". I get paid the same whether I work one minute a day or 24 hours a day.

That's fine by me, truthfully I'm rather surprised it isn't something we've all done at some point. We did start out as a group of guys who all watched the same shows and movies but because of streaming, now we can binge seasons in days or a day and sometimes we forget to discuss some of the good stuff in the process. I'll try to be more current with mine.

9 to 5 ain't too bad but I do not miss being on the clock whatsoever. Nor do I miss dealing with all the ways corporate had figured out how not to properly compensate the work force.

While I have never experienced what you mentioned about corporate not properly compensating people, I can imagine the frustration. When you said that, by the way, I am thinking about hourly workers who clocked in 40 hours but somehow corporate screws it up and only pays out 39 hours or something.

I did not take that as corporate not offering a "fair wage".

I hope that makes sense.

Anyways, at my firm, the payroll department is surprisingly efficient. They reimburse me for expenses immediately. That is, I do not have to wait for my next paycheck to receive my reimbursements. Pretty neat.

While my firm has its share of problems, I have to admit I'm pretty happy here except the fact my salary is not good enough for me. It may be time to move on soon. However, my low salary is balanced by my working hours. I can make a shitload more money but I'd probably spend more time at the office than at home. And don't get me started on the politics in there. Everyone loves me because I know how to play the game. But unbeknownst to anyone, that feeling is not truly reciprocated except to my immediate team. They all pretty much suck.

Okay, enough of my issues. Gonna try to watch a couple more episodes of Wu Wu Wuuuuu Ass Ass Ins.

Amazon's The Tick is way more amusing than I'd expected. I watched the animated series on FOX as a kid but I didn't expect they could pull the character off in live action but I was wrong, this show just works.

When has a comedy sequel EVER been a good idea? I can't recall loving any comedy sequels in my entire life except for Back to the Future Part II.

I fully expect this to be a giant disaster, especially since they loaded the cast with so many other random characters.

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is another good comedy sequel, Hot Shots! Part Deux, of course I remember seeing those a lot more than the originals on cable as a kid

You got me on Bogus Journey but even as a kid I hated the Hot Shots movies.

I bought a Windows 7 Enterprise key off eBay for $1.30. Feeling frisky, I decided to try a Windows 10 Pro key for my laptop for $1.74.

Both worked without any problems.

I will wait for Office 2016 to hit $8.99 and buy a copy of that for my laptop, too. Then a copy for my PC as well after I upgrade.

All the software on my computers now legit Windows keys. I would not be able to sleep at night knowing Microsoft did not get their fair share.


Update: I just got Office 2019 for $8 omg. It’s downloading direct from Microsoft. My palms are getting sweaty. Will post an update when complete!

Update 2: Office 2019 works. Fully activated. However, it appears I may not be able to reactivate it if i reinstall my PC operating system. That’s the risk. Eh, it’s fine. No big deal. I can still use this while I have it! Woo hoo

I just got an Apple Card, it’ll be nice to go back to a store that stopped accepting Visa since the Apple Card is MasterCard

I have an American Express Platinum Card which I use for airfare and travel and a Chase Sapphire Reserve for hotels. Both are sweet metal cards, too, but with perks. I'm so cool! omg So coooooooooool. The coolest because I'm so fancy.

There was a time when I used to be all over damn near every new title that came out but in the last few years it's dropped drastically. Now I download maybe 2 movies a year because streaming offers so many other options and nothing new ever seems to interest me.

Alright, chums, I reformatted my laptop with a fresh install of Windows and installed my bare minimum programs along with my legit copy of Office 2019 Pro and Windows 10 Pro key. All keys work and are good to go. I even stepped away from Avast Antivirus (free) and paid for ESET Antivirus. Everything is great and activated without a hitch.

I paid $4.70 for a three year license but when i activated it, the expiration states 2/24/2022 which means I only got two and a half years. I got ripped off!

Heh heh no complaints from me. I know what I was doing. That was a risk. I could have purchased the two year key for $4 but maybe I would have only received 18 months. Who knows. I will likely be buying a Windows 10 Pro key for my PC when I upgrade this year.

Last night I decided to watch The Secret Life of Pets 2 (pretty good movie, by the way), so I wanted to download on YIFY. I was unable to access the proper link so I checked out rarbg and found a copy from an encoder named DRONE. The file was nearly 5 gigabytes large but it was so much better than YIFY.

YIFY's stuff is smaller files but they compress the shit out of the audio tracks. I always have to turn up the sound so much just to hear what's going on but with the one I got from rarbg, the audio (and video) was pristine and completely intelligible.

I get everything from RARBG or Yify and have experienced the same audio issues but that tends to be a problem on most downloaded files for me. Sometimes my audio is blasting at 20 and other times, I can max it out at 99 and still barely hear what's happening.

Super shitty Disney Plus news that angers me.

The way they've been touting for months that the Mandalorian would be available on launch day, I'm super annoyed to hear they only meant the Pilot would be, unless they will be making a special case for their launch shows.

TVLine hears that Disney+ episodes will be released on a weekly basis, versus the all-at-once “binge” model.

Interesting, I thought they'd release them all just to compete with Netflix.

Today marks the 18th anniversary of the death of Aaliyah. I didn't realize how long it'd been.

Aaliyah was beautiful. Is beautiful? Whatever. Damn shame she passed away so young. I remember I heard about it when I was heading back to school upstate.

Just got the Highlander detailed. I can't believe it's the same car. This guy cleaned parts of the car I never even paid attention to. Bad ass. Now I feel even better when I drive it. Yay.
