Robbie eats a bullet 5 minutes into the movie.

Thomas Haden Church is Amell's dad and Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) is his mom.  They're the only others I knew the names of.

Watched a few recently.

The Interview - Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. The first act before they get to Korea was fucking hilarious. Went down hill a little after that, but still held its own

Apollo 13 - Still a great flick.

The Gambler (Whalberg) - Really enjoyed this. Great cast. Marky Mark is under-rated, and John Goodman is getting better with age. This guy will have to snag a Best Supporting gong soon. The dialogue was fantastic. Never seen the original so I can't compare.

Very solid war film, haven't seen one that affected me like that since Saving Private Ryan. Great character, brutal story, reminded me a lot of Casualties of War and Platoon. Pitt just keeps getting better. Recommended.

Ex Machina, holy shit what a crazy film. Did not play out at all like I was expecting. Both Gleeson and Issac were fantastic. Gleeson continues to impress me with every new film, looking forward to his role in Episode 7 as I've never seen him play a bad guy before, incidentally Issac also has a starring E7 role. But anyway, I've been seeing Vikander's name in the trades for quite awhile now, she's been a massively in demand actress ever since Ex Machina premiered and yet I hadn't seen her in anything yet. This was one hell of an introduction to the woman, that's for sure. I will not be forgetting her and I look forward to more from all three of these actors in the near future.

It's funny how we keep managing to time the viewing of new releases months after they've come out to within a day or two of each other. Kingsman, Ex Machina and yes It Follows I watched two days ago, lol. Been surprised by the selection and the fact that I've been enjoying all of them so far, typically it's one bad movie after another.

What others do you have in the queue? These are what I've got on the HD I expect to get around to in the next few days or week.

Run All Night (Liam Neeson, Ed Harris, Joel Kinnaman, Boyd Holbrook)

Son of a Gun (Ewan McGregor, Brenton Thwaites, Alicia Vikander, Matt Nable)

Unbroken (Jack O'Connell, Domnhall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, Jai Courtney)

Joe Dirt 2 (Expecting this to be a steaming pile, so I keep delaying it)

Thinking about Run All Night or Maggie.

I watched American Sniper after It Follows. Good movie, but OMFG when did Kyle Gallner grow up?? I thought he was gonna look 16 forever. I'm probably the only person who was a bit amused that Bradley Cooper and Keir O'Donnell last worked together in Wedding Crashers. Oh, and all the Punisher stuff in a WB movie.

Breaking the Waves (1996)

Decided to watch some Criterion blus, since I'm home sick today. Starting with this one.

Very depressing film, with a great screen debut from Emily Watson. My one issue, the ridiculous end shot.

Great cast and solid acting, but decades later this one still bores me.

Currently watching Ninja II: Shadow of a Tear. Watched Ninja earlier. It's a Ninja marathon!

I just realized as I was typing this, Ninja II is 1.78:1 and Ninja is 2.35:1.

Casey! You are dishonoring your sensei!!! omg

Damn, he's losing his shit. Fuckin' up peeps left and right. This movie is wonderful.

Okay, this movie was really good. No shaky cam, just Scott Adkins beating the shit out of people without any bullshit shaky close-ups or quick-cuts. This was an old fashioned knockdown, dragout film. There was even one scene where Casey goes into a martial arts dojo and fights five guys in one long cut. And it was a complex fight, too. Really fun movie.

This one was definitely better than the first. Two thumbs way, way up.

Just watched Rudderless, good film but also sad. I had a hunch the movie was going to go in that direction. A lot of talented actors on it and Selena was ok herself. While I've seen Billy in Watchman before, I think I liked him way more in this. The songs in the movie were nice too.

Great list, the extended cut of Almost Famous remains my all-time favorite film.

I would also add to that Crudup recommendations list; Inventing the Abbotts and Sleepers. Sleepers is so dark but so damned good and talk about an amazing cast.

I used to watch the theatrical cut all the time and thought that was a great movie. Then I imported the Bootleg BD from Norway and found an extra 40 minutes that made a great movie even better. The Bootleg cut is the definitive version for me. Which do you prefer?

I love both. The U.S. Blu-ray is also the Bootleg Cut. I agree with what I think is the general consensus; the theatrical cut is better paced, but the bootleg cut gives you more time with the characters.

Anytime a significant amount of time is added people complain about pacing but I never feel like it drags, I loved all the characters so more time with them just makes them more developed characters to me.

The only time I can think of that I preferred a theatrical to an extended cut would by Payback and Empire Records, two films destroyed by extremely alternate versions. Beyond those I only opt for extended cuts if available, the existence of a theatrical cut is like the DVD copy, something I got no time for.

I think it's a legitimate critique. We only love the bootleg cut because we know the story and love the characters, but I wouldn't suggest it to someone who's never seen the movie before.

What I did over my summer vacation

Jurassic World....nothing wrong with it but no way it makes that kind of money.
Fury Road...crazy ass movie and good time
Fantastic Four...not sure what all the hate was about...prolly never watch it again but not offensively bad
Rogue Nation...my fav summer flick...nothing earth shattering but they keep finding ways to make the same story fun to watch

As to Ex-Machina...total mind fuck...ending didnt surprise me but the middle kind did.

Wild with Reese Witherspoon. Expected to see a woman taking a long walk and figuring shit out and while there was that, the subplot full of flashbacks to her nymphomaniac behavior took me by a bit of a surprise. Some seriously slutty moments that featured Reese in all kinds of Risque business and I gotta say she's still looking good. The movie was pretty good too and featured some nice cameos.
