The Kingdom Of The Planet of the Apes (‘The Witcher’s Freya Allan To Star) New-pl10
The Apes are back. Fox has brought on Wes Ball, the filmmaker behind the popular Maze Runner film series, to develop and direct a new Planet of the Apes feature, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The move makes Apes one of the first historically significant Fox titles to get the redevelopment treatment since Disney’s acquisition of the storied studio.

The original 1968 Planet of the Apes film, based on a novel by French writer Pierre Boulle and starring Charlton Heston, centers on an astronaut who lands on a planet and discovers an advanced ape civilization ruling over primitive humans. In the final, infamous twist, he learns he is actually on Earth, which had suffered an apocalyptic nuclear war.

The movie was a commercial and critical hit upon its release and spawned numerous sequels and a TV series throughout the 1970s. In 2001, Tim Burton remade the film as an action-adventure that failed to excite audiences. However, Fox found success again with a reboot trilogy that began with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, an origin story chronicling how the primates took over, which featured envelope-pushing motion-capture technology and a stirring performance by Andy Serkis as Caesar, the Moses-like leader of the apes.

It is unclear whether the latest Apes project is meant to be a new reboot or an extension of the previous film series.

Ball’s Maze Runner trilogy, set in its own dystopian future, grossed almost $1 billion worldwide while being produced on modest budgets. The filmmaker was due to tackle a pricey and special effects-heavy adaptation of Boom! Comics' Mouse Guard before that project was shelved by Disney earlier this year.

With Joe Hartwick Jr., his partner at Oddball Entertainment, Ball is producing the series The Night Market for Disney+.

If it's a reboot, I won't be watching. Way too early when you've already got a good trilogy you can pick up from.

The last trilogy was absolutely brilliant and the perfect conclusion to the Caesar saga but we must see what became of his bloodline as they rule over and enslave all of mankind. If Serkis could come back and play Casar's great great grandchild or something like that, I'd be ecstatic. This is another trilogy or more worth of story to tell so they absolutely need to keep in cannon and continue on with the story that came before. If this is just yet another POA reboot than I'm not going to be very happy about this.

Disney has decided to reboot the franchise, this will not be a continuation of Serkis's Caesar trilogy.

I knew they'd disappoint me..... Evil or Very Mad

It was my franchise of the decade and Disney feels that because it has Fox's fingerprints they need to just discard the Serkis trilogy and start fresh because who will tell Disney no, they're the top pimps in this game of whores.

Exclusive: Planet Of The Apes 4 Plot Revealed
The Kingdom Of The Planet of the Apes (‘The Witcher’s Freya Allan To Star) Weta-d10
War for the Planet of the Apes came out all the way back in 2017 and concluded the most recent reboot of the venerable ape franchise with the death of Andy Serkis’ Caesar, the chimpanzee who led the revolt against humankind. While the death of the central character of a trilogy would typically signify the end of a series, that has never been the case for this particular convoluted franchise. According to our trusted and proven sources, Planet of the Apes 4 is not only in development but now has a plot. Here’s what we know about the upcoming sequel so far:

From what we are told, Planet of the Apes 4 will follow a young chimpanzee named Noa of the Eagle Clan. From context, we can gather that the movie will take place quite some time after the death of Caesar, with apes having developed a kind of feudal society of warring clans and at least a tenuous truce with the remnants of humanity. Noa is described as a “rule-follower” shaped by the lore and tradition of his clan. He is on the edge of adulthood and upon returning for a rite of passage in which he must bring an eagle’s egg back to his home, discovers that his clan has been attacked, his father killed, and his people enslaved.

It is probably not looking too deeply into things to imagine that the name of the Planet of the Apes 4 protagonist being Noa may be a reference to the Biblical Noah, who famously was called upon to save the animals from a terrible calamity. After all, this is a series that previously focused on an ape named after one of the most famous conquerors of history fighting against humankind. As it turns out Planet of the Apes 4 will have a new caesar, the leader of the maruading apes who destroyed the Eagle Clan.

From the description we have, the antagonist of Planet of the Apes 4 is named Proximus Caesar and is a cunning and authoritative warlord seeking to consolidate the ape clans under his leadership. It also sounds like he is well aware of the past and deliberately uses the name and teachings of the original Caesar for his own personal benefit, as well as seeking to use the abandoned technology of the humans to build his empire.

It also sounds like Planet of the Apes 4 will include a human faction that are treated more like pests than rivals for ape dominance, with Noa having a human companion named Mae. Mae seems to be vying for Noa’s loyalty against Proximus Caesar, but there is a reason why it is called Planet of the Apes and it’s not because humans win out. Planet of the Apes 4 will reportedly be directed by Wes Ball (who previously directed the Maze Runner series) and has previously been announced to be co-written by Ball and Josh Friedman. This new Planet of the Apes film sounds like a hero’s journey-style narrative, which will be an interesting new direction for the franchise. We will keep updating with more details on Planet of the Apes 4 as we find them.

‘Planet Of The Apes’: Owen Teague To Star In New Film Installment For 20th Century
The Kingdom Of The Planet of the Apes (‘The Witcher’s Freya Allan To Star) Owen-t10
EXCLUSIVE: 20th Century’s next series of Planet of the Apes films looks to have found a new lead for future installments as sources tell Deadline that Owen Teague has been tapped to play the lead primate in the newest film in the iconic franchise. Wes Ball is taking over directing duties for the property, which hopes to start production before year’s end.

Not much is known about this latest installment as Ball and studio execs have kept plot details under lock and key. That said, the property has been a high priority for the studio going back to when Disney acquired 20th Century and made it clear that the plan was to get the next Planet of the Apes pic in development as soon as possible. The studio would tap Ball to direct in 2019 and he has been penning the script and working with VFX teams since then.

Earlier this summer, Ball delivered a script to the studio that instantly excited execs about where the new story could take fans of the franchise. A casting process began soon after that.

Prior to the Fourth of July holiday, execs and Ball began testing talent for lead roles. While the search remains for the main human role, Teague wowed execs with his screen tests and was offered the role in recent weeks.

In 2011, 20th Century would successfully revamp the franchise with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, an origin story chronicling how the primates took over. It featured groundbreaking motion-capture technology and an unreal performance by Andy Serkis as Caesar, the leader of the apes.

The film was not only a resounding box-office hit but also earned some of the best reviews in the franchise’s history, leading to a new set of films that wrapped up with 2017’s War For the Planet of the Apes.

As for Teague, his big break came in Stephen King adaptation of It, where he played one of the bullies that terrorized the losers club. He would follow that up with another King adaptation with Paramount+ limited series The Stand. Upcoming credits include the Netflix thriller Reptile and the A24 pic Beth & Don.

New ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Movie Taps ‘The Witcher’s Freya Allan To Star
The Kingdom Of The Planet of the Apes (‘The Witcher’s Freya Allan To Star) 960x010
EXCLUSIVE: 20th Century’s next installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise is a go and has found its new star as sources tell Deadline Freya Allan is set to star Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Deadline reported last month that Owen Teague was tapped as the lead ape of the pic and insiders add that Peter Macon has also joined the cast. Production is set to start next with Maze Runner helmer Wes Ball directing the pic. This film starts an all-new chapter in the Planet of the Apes saga, picking up many years after the conclusion of 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes. The screenplay is by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison. Joe Hartwick Jr., Jaffa, Silver and Jason Reed are the film’s producers with Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping exec producing.

“’Planet of the Apes’ is one of the most iconic and storied science fiction franchises in film history, as well as being an indelible part of our studio’s legacy. With ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ we are privileged to continue the series’ tradition of imaginative, thought-provoking cinema, and can’t wait to share Wes’ extraordinary vision for this new chapter with audiences in 2024,” said Steve Asbell, President of 20th Century Studios.

Planet of the Apes is one of 20th Century Studios’ most popular and enduring franchises, amassing more than $1.7 billion worldwide. Based on a novel by Pierre Boulle, the first film in the series was released by Twentieth Century-Fox in 1968 and went on to become one of the year’s biggest hits, winning a special Academy Award and followed by four theatrical sequels and two television series.  A remake, Planet of the Apes, directed by Tim Burton, was released in 2001, then a 2011 reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was followed by two sequels, 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.

As for the casting process, while Teague was a top choice from the jump as the next main ape, the lead human has a long process that has been pursued by a long list of rising stars in this town. In recent weeks, Allan tested several times including a final audition in front of Ball as he was scouting locations and would eventually land the role.

Allan is best known for her breakout role opposite Henry Cavill in Netflix’s The Witcher series as Ciri. She recently wrapped production on season 2. She also has the indie drama Baghead coming up.

Freya Allen has been killin it on The Witcher and I've wanted to see what else she can do, so landing the lead human role in the fourth Chapter of the Apes saga feels like a wise career move.

There is so much more story left to tell and luckily Kingdom is planned to be the beginning of a new trilogy.

I'm so stoked for this!
