John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum (May 17, 2019)

Post by WyldeMan on 6/2/2017, 1:18 pm

Derek Kolstad, who penned the Keanu Reeves hits John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2, will keep the bullets flying.

The scribe has been tapped to pen the screenplay for the third installment of the action franchise, John Wick: Chapter 3, for Lionsgate and producer Basil Iwanyk.

Chapter 3 is being fast-tracked to start production this fall with Reeves expected to reprise his role of beleaguered hitman John Wick. Chad Stahelski, who co-directed the first movie with David Leitch and sat solo behind the camera for the second one, is working with Kolstad and developing the project with an eye to direct it.

The two Wick installments have made over $250 million worldwide while being smartly and modestly budgeted. The movies, which took audiences deep into a worldwide society of assassins, have also been a hit with critics.

Bringing back Kolstad is seen as keeping the creative team intact and not messing up a winning combination.

Kolstad wrote the original Wick on spec; it was originally titled Scorn. The writer is keeping a handle on his creation’s activities outside the movies, having also written the VR video game, John Wick: Chronicles (currently available on Steam), and is consulting on the John Wick comic book series, coming out later this year.

Keanu Reeves has likened the third film to John Carpenter’s Escape From New York, but it remains to be seen if Wick will be grounded to only to New York City for another entire film. Considering, they just opened up the idea of an international manhunt for him.

John Wick: Chapter 2 seemingly reveals that the High Table will be the villains of the next film, if not future sequels. This was hinted to by their $14 million international hit on Wick.

The museum scene also hints to this as the statue demi-god Hercules encircled by 12 Greek gods (as seen in the header image) its imagery is a wrath-filled killing of his messenger Lichas after Hercules believes he has attempted to poison him. Mirroring John’s situation at the end of the film.

The High Table is the unseen Greater Scope Villains of John Wick: Chapter 2. They are a council of 12 crime bosses from some of the world’s most powerful criminal organizations. It is the goal of Santino D’Antonio to become a member of the High Table.

The known criminal syndicates apart of the High Table include Camorra (Naples, Italy), Sicilian Mafia (Sicily, Italy), ‘Ndrangheta (Calabria, Italy), and Triad (China/Hong Kong). It’s expected each seat in the group of 12 would be represented by 12 different criminal organizations from around the world. Although, with the death of Gianna D’Antonio and her treacherous brother Santino it’s possible the council will be down to 11 members.

A release date isn’t being revealed here but seeing it released in late 2018 or early 2019 wouldn’t be hard to imagine.

John Wick' Comic Book Launch Will Reveal Character's Origin

After an announcement at the end of last year, fans of John Wick have been eagerly awaiting the Dynamite Entertainment comic book series based on the Keanu Reeves movie series. This September, the wait is over.

Written by Greg Pak (Marvel's The Totally Awesome Hulk, DC's Action Comics) with art by Giovanni Valletta, the John Wick series doesn't continue the storyline seen in the two movies released to date; instead, the story — which takes place as part of official movie canon — flashes all the way back to the start of Wick's career.

"I was on board pretty much as soon as I got the call and heard ‘John Wick,'" Pak said in a statement from Dynamite. "I'm a huge Keanu Reeves fan and loved the John Wick movies, which had the kind of kinetic action and intriguing mythology that seemed like a perfect fit for comics. I'm also always happy to work with my friends at Dynamite, who are always a pleasure to make comics with. And the art I saw from Giovanni Valletta blew my mind — he's totally nailing Keanu Reeves' likeness while creating emotional, dynamic, exciting action.

This book is going be beautiful. But what really sealed the deal was when Dynamite Editor Anthony Marques said we had the greenlight to tell a John Wick origin story. That was astounding to me — we're not just telling another fun adventure with the character; we're actually going to be able to add to this character's and world's tremendous mythology by telling an origin story! What could be cooler than that?"

According to editor Marques, "We've received the blessings from all of the creators involved with the films, every step of the way. That includes the writer/creator of John Wick Derek Kolstad, as well as Thunder Road, Lionsgate, and even Keanu Reeves. This book is the real deal and people are not going to be disappointed."

The series will launch digitally and in comic book stores this September. Valletta's cover for the first issue is above; below is a variant cover for that issue by Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz.

‘John Wick: Chapter Three’ Targets Early Summer 2019 Date
The third installment in Lionsgate/Summit’s Keanu Reeves shoot-em-up franchise, John Wick: Chapter 3 is locked and loaded to open on May 17, 2019. John Wick: Chapter Two, which opened in early February, was a huge surprise at the winter box office, debuting to $30M and finaling at $92M stateside, $171.5M worldwide.

The first John Wick, though it only made $88.8M at the global B.O., was a huge hit on home entertainment, hence the reason why Lionsgate proceeded with a sequel. To date, both John Wick pics count $260.3M at the worldwide box office.

Currently, John Wick:Chapter 3 is the only film scheduled on its current release date, and precedes Disney’s live-action version of Aladdin from Guy Ritchie which is opening on May 24, as well as Warner Bros.’ Minecraft movie.

Chad Stahelski who helmed part 2 and the original 2014 version returns for a third time. Ditto for screenwriter Derek Kolstad who has penned the first two movies.

John Wick 3 Production Could Start in Spring of 2018
To some surprise, the John Wick franchise has quickly become one of the most adored action series in recent history, with Keanu Reeves bringing another iconic hero to life. Following this years ecstatically received Chapter Two, Lionsgate has pushed forward with John Wick Chapter 3 which now has a release date of May 17th, 2019. Initial rumors suggested that Lionsgate had put the third instalment on the fast track with many believing that production was going to start as soon as this fall. But it seems unlikely that production will start before the end of the year and a new report suggests that production for John Wick 3 has been pushed back to sometime in 2018.

Omega Underground has been tracking on production of John Wick 3 and specifically the casting and location scouting aspects of the production. So far, there hasn't been any movement on the highly anticipated movie leading to speculation that the third movie might not be on as fast of a track as previously assumed. Lionsgate has set the release date for May 17th, 2019, which gives us the impression a spring-summer production start is most likely happening, now that a fall 2017 shoot is unrealistic at this point.

One particular reason for the perceived delay could be that David Leitch is trying to finish post on Deadpool 2, which comes out on June 1st, 2018, before production on Chapter 3 begins, keeping the creative team on board for all three of the projects. No specific plot points have been released as of yet, but it looks as if we will see John Wick in some sort of trouble as star Keanu Reeves stated as much at New York Comic-Con recently. Reeves also mentioned that he's working with director Chad Stahelski, who helmed the second movie and co-directed the first movie with David Leitch.

The franchise has been a success for the studio with a combined $260 million dollars in worldwide grosses and Lionsgate executives have indicated in recent months that they were planning a third movie. Both movies were directed by Chad Stahelski from scripts written by Derek Kolstad with Keanu Reeves portraying a retired hitman seeking vengeance for the killing of his puppy, which was a gift from his late wife. Both John Wick movies featured elaborate stunts and an impressive body count as Reeves fended off numerous gunmen out to kill him. The second movie featured a Matrix reunion with Laurence Fishburne starring.

The John Wick franchise has gained a lot of momentum, and it will be interesting to see if the upcoming third installment will bring Wick's story to a close or if it's another entry in an ongoing series. Judging by the prime May release date, Lionsgate probably wants it to be the latter. More news about John Wick 3 is expected to be announced soon, but in the meantime, check out some more information about when production may start courtesy of Omega Underground.

I can't get enough of these films. I watched the first one at least seven or eight times and the amount of viewings for the second one is getting up there, too, now that they air it on HBO constantly.

Definitely looking forward to the third installment.

And I completely forgot Laurence Fishburne was Morpheus. The Matrix reunion didn't even come into my mind when they were on screen together.

John Wick 3 Director, Cast, and Production Start Date Revealed
John Wick 3 will begin filming much sooner than previously thought with the return of director Chad Stahelski as well as much of the cast. Stahelski has yet to officially say that he is attached to the third movie in the trilogy, instead saying that he is the "prep director," but it appears as if he'll be on to finish the franchise out. It was revealed last week that the working title for John Wick 3 is Alpha Cop, but it was assumed that production would begin this spring or early this summer.

A new report from That Hashtag Show reveals that John Wick 3 begins production on March 1st, 2018 in New York City with other rumored locations including Russia and Spain. The New York City locations point to the possibility that the movie will take place after the events of the second movie, which is something that Keanu Reeves has talked about. In addition, it looks like much of the cast is returning as well. Laurence Fishburne will be returning as the Bowery King along with Common's Cassian and Ruby Rose's Ares from the previous movies.

There will also be multiple new faces with John Wick 3's antagonist being played by Hiroyuki Sanada (Avengers 4). Sanada will be playing the head of a Japanese crime syndicate, presumably with a score to settle against Keanu Reeves's Wick. This will be a reunion for the two actors who starred together in 2013's 47 Samurai. The studio is also looking for a woman to co-star with Reeves ranging from her late 20s to early 40s. While Reeves hopes to bring Tilda Swinton into the John Wick franchise, but it is not clear if she will sign on at this time.

John Wick 3 will keep its official release date of May 17th, 2019, which is also welcome news for fans who have been clamoring for any bit of news that they can get about the third and final movie in the trilogy. Keanu Reeves hinted that the production could end up in some international locations, and it appears that he was not kidding. Reeves also recently said that he wants John Wick 3 to see the character trying to escape New York, which also looks like it could happen due to the production starting in New York City.

This is definitely exciting news for fans that have been looking forward to John Wick 3 since the last movie came out a year ago. Director Chad Stahelski wasted no time in getting the pre-production process started and it appears that Keanu Reeves was actively involved as well, which is also great news. Since production is set to start in just over a month, expect a lot more John Wick 3 news to be announced very soon. Until then, you can check out the original report about the returning cast and crew as well as production start date from That Hashtag Show.

“John Wick is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston Join ‘Chapter 3’

Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, Mark Dacascos, and Jason Mantzoukas have joined the cast of “John Wick: Chapter 3.”

The film, starring Keanu Reeves, will bring back Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick. It will be released by Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment label on May 17, 2019.

Reeves’ character returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.

“We’re thrilled to bring audiences the third installment of our hit ‘John Wick’ franchise with an exciting cast and world-class creative team,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chairman Joe Drake. “This is our latest expansion of the ‘John Wick’ universe, which already spans film, television, gaming, and location-based entertainment.”

“John Wick: Chapter 3” will introduce Berry as “Sofia”; Huston as “The Director” and Dillon as “The Adjudicator” of the High Table; Dacascos as an assassin named “Zero;” and Mantzoukas as the “Tick Tock Man.” Also joining the cast are Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman, from “The Raid” franchise, as formidable professional killers that Wick has to face off against, as well as martial arts star Tiger Hu Chen from “Man of Tai Chi.”

As a kid, I often watched Only the Strong, I'd never seen Capioera before and it fascinated me. Dacascos is one very talented guy but outside of SHIELD and Hawaii Five-O I haven't seen him in really anything in the last ten years so I hope he has a killer fight sequence and a big role in JW3.

‘John Wick 3’ Title Confirmed as ‘John Wick 3: Parabellum’
ohn Wick 3 officially has a title. Keanu Reeves, the star of the cult action series, has confirmed that the third entry in the John Wick franchise is called John Wick 3: Parabellum.

The third John Wick movie will buck the trend and do away with the “Chapters” in its titles. Instead, the newest John Wick film will be named John Wick 3: Parabellum, Reeves confirmed to ComingSoon.

When asked whether the title for the third John Wick film was John Wick 3 or the rumored Parabellum, Reeves responded, “It’s both! John Wick 3: Parabellum.” This comes as a nice confirmation of a title that has been floating around as John Wick 3‘s working title for months now.

So what exactly does the fancy word “parabellum” mean? Reeves explained:

“Prepare for war. It’s part of that famous sentence, ‘Si vis pacem, para bellum,’ which translates as, ‘If you want peace, prepare for war.'”

Yes, it sounds like our favorite assassin is going to war in John Wick 3: Parabellum against legions of assassins who are after the lofty bounty placed on his head. It makes sense considering the dire circumstances John Wick found himself in at the end of John Wick: Chapter 2, after violating the sacred rules of the Continental by killing someone on the hotel’s grounds.

The next entry in the John Wick franchise is highly anticipated after the first two films bucked expectations to become some of the most stylish and acclaimed action flicks of the past decade. The franchise has become so popular that it has begun to expand to comic books and television, with a spin-off TV series The Continental in the works at STARZ with acclaimed writer/producer Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy) executive producing. A spin-off feature film Ballerina, following a female child assassin, is also in the works.

Derek Kolstad and Chad Stahelski are returning to write and direct John Wick 3: Parabellum, respectively. Ian McShane, Common, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ruby Rose are expected to reprise their roles, while Halle Berry, Angelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, Mark Dacascos, and Jason Mantzoukas, and Hiroyuki Sanada (who will reportedly play the villain) have all been confirmed as new additions to the cast.

John Wick 3: Parabellum will be the first movie in the Wick franchise to hit theaters in the summer. It arrives on May 17, 2019, and you can read even more about it right here.

Reeves is on the run in John Wick: Chapter 3 first-look photos
Keanu Reeves’ sharp-dressed hitman ended 2017’s John Wick: Chapter 2 with a $14 million contract out on his life — which is exactly how John Wick: Chapter 3 (out May 17) begins. “The third chapter is literally connected to 2 and starts with John Wick on the run,” Reeves tells EW. “It goes crazy from there.”

Some of that craziness involves Sofia (Halle Berry), a new character Wick meets in the Middle East. “She has a past with John,” says Reeves. “I end up going to find her to see if she can help me.”

Sofia has two Belgian Malinois dogs, continuing the tradition of canine-centric plotlines in a film series whose first entry, 2014’s John Wick, featured Reeves’ character going on a killing spree after the murder of his four-legged friend. “Whereas John’s puppy was symbolic of his wife, Halle’s two dogs are symbolic of someone she’s lost,” says director Chad Stahelski, adding that they developed an action sequence around her “canine assistants…. They work very well tactically.”

Other newcomers include Mark Dacascos and Asia Kate Dillon, who play characters associated with the criminal council known as the High Table. There’s also Hollywood legend Anjelica Huston as “someone who was responsible for [Wick’s] upbringing and his protection,” says Stahelski, who calls Chapter 3 “a little bit of an origin story.” The filmmaker thinks the movie’s death count will “land slightly north” of the previous film’s.

Stahelski reveals that he would happily make a fourth John Wick film if the audience enjoys this movie, but he isn’t counting his chickens yet. “We did the first one and were like, ‘They’re going to laugh at us,’” he says. “This one, I’m already looking for janitorial jobs.”

I like that Stahelski is open to a forth film and continuing the story. I thought it was going to be a trilogy and that was it but John Wick needs to kill so many more people before his story is through and I can't imagine one more movie will be enough to get him out of the jam he put himself in after Chapter 2.

It can be resolved if done right. I think a 4th would be too much. Unless they have a similar ending to the 2nd one where something crazy happens.

The entire assassin world is hunting John and it picks up with him still trying to make it out of the city alive so he can kill all the people he's worked for throughout the world over his decades long illustrious career and with none of the resources he's had in the previous films. I'm sorry but I just don't see John's story being resolved in an hour and a half, this could easily be four or five films.

John Wick Director Wants To Continue The Franchise Indefinitely
Keanu Reeves' latest recurring cinematic character, John Wick, has been leaving a trail of bodies in his wake ever since he was introduced in 2014. Next year, Mr. Wick is returning in John Wick: Chapter 3, and while it will be a while until we officially learn whether or not John Wick: Chapter 4 will happen, director Chad Stahelski envisions this as a franchise that could continue for much longer. Stahelski stated:

I enjoy making these movies because there's no limit. We create our own mythology, and we have a studio that both stays out of our way and supports us on the wacky decisions. If people go see the movie, and it makes money, and they came back to us, Keanu and I have ideas for days. I could live here for the rest of my career. If people like it and want to watch more, I could think of way worse ways to spend your career. But, you know, we're in the entertainment business. We'll let the audience figure that out.

After co-directing John Wick with David Leitch (though Leitch was ultimately credited as a producer), Chad Stahelski took the helming reins completely on his own for John Wick: Chapter 2 when Leitch decided to tackle Atomic Blonde. Stahelski is currently putting the finishing touches on John Wick: Chapter 3, but clearly he's not ready to say goodbye to Keanu Reeves' assassin, as he and Reeves have already come up with some ideas on where things could go for a fourth movie and beyond.

Still, as Chad Stahelski admitted to EW, whether John Wick will become more than a trilogy depends on the audience turnout. Earning positive critical reception is one thing, but for franchises, they also have to be profitable. Fortunately, both John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 were commercially successful, making $88 million and $171 million, respectively. So ideally that bodes well for John Wick: Chapter 3 doing well at the box office, and if it indeed follows in the financial footsteps of its predecessors, then that'll be incentive for Lionsgate to continue this film series.

Even on the off chance that John Wick: Chapter 3 is the last of the main saga, the universe John and these other colorful killers inhabit will live on. Starz has ordered to air a TV series called The Continental, which, as the names indicates, will be centered around the hotel chain that serve as sanctuaries for assassins and other criminals. David Leitch will direct the pilot episode and Keanu Reeves is expected to reprise John at some point.

It was also reported in 2017 that a script called Ballerina, which follows a young girl who is raised to be an assassin and later hunts down the people who killed her family, was being looked at as a spinoff to the John Wick movies. However, there haven't been any updates regarding Ballerina since then, so it's unclear if Lionsgate is still interested in using that project to expand the John Wick universe.

We here at CinemaBlend will keep you updated on what's happening with the John Wick franchise as more details come in. John Wick: Chapter 3 (also known as John Wick 3: Parabellum), will be released in theaters on May 17, 2019.

I guess that rules out him dying if he's going to make an appearance in the show. I don't know, it could be a good thing or a bad thing. If the stories stay just as good then I'm all for it.

According to some very detailed infographics John killed 73 people in the Chapter 1 and 128 people in Chapter 2, so that means 201 down...7 billion to go. Plenty of potential for the sequels. Cool Razz

I think I saw a YouTube video before from one of the movies where it shows his kill count. I'm sure the numbers will reach 200s in Chapter 3.

He's already at 201 so 400 is very likely. Twisted Evil

If the world is out to kill John Wick, he'll kill the world first. John's probably meeting up with some old contacts for a friendly chat before he shoots them.

BTW, Fear only fears John Wick, not the other way around. Razz
