Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation ($682,330,139)
Paramount has rethought its plan to open the next Mission: Impossible sequel this coming Christmas, instead moving it up to the heart of summer. Skydance’s Tom Cruise-Jeremy Renner actioner Mission: Impossible 5 from Christopher McQuarrie, who directed Cruise in 2012’s Jack Reacher, now will open July 31. It will face off against Warner Bros’ action remake Point Break, Focus’ sci-fi thriller Self/Less and the Weinstein Company’s boxing drama Southpaw. Moving into M:I5‘s December 25 slot is the studio’s live-action/CGI hybrid Monster Trucks, which had been set for May 29. It will rev up against a pair of Fox pics: kids sequel Alvin And The Chipmunks 4 and drama Joy.

Well that happens NEVER, a franchise film moves from December to the heart of Summer? The studio must have loved what they've seen.

WOW! Can't wait to check out the trailer. But we've seen nothing from production so far, I can't believe they've bumped this up that early. I loved the last one and it's probably my favorite MI movie thus far.

Renner and Rhames are both in starring roles.

They moved it because of Star Wars. I think this movie will do good in the Summer though.WyldeMan wrote:Well that happens NEVER, a franchise film moves from December to the heart of Summer? The studio must have loved what they've seen.

THAT IS SICK! Did he do that stunt for real too? Looks action packed. This is going to be awesome!
Looks like it picks up right after Ghost Protocol with the Syndicate mission from IMF. And who's the new chick? The new boss?

Of course he did, it's Tom Cruise, he refuses to let anybody do the big stunts cause he worships aliens and keeps trying to find them in the sky. DUH!

I remember there were set videos and pics in the last one when he did the Burj Khalifa stunt, not the case this time but I can believe that he did it for real.

LOL! Son of a gun did it for real. Thanks for posting those. I'm scared of heights, so even with straps I don't know if I would go for that. A little tear in the ropes and it's a long way down.

I plan on doing some skydiving this year, something i've wanted to do forever. Though I might just start with some bungee jumping and see if I survive that first.

Baby steps! I can do bungee jumping though, no sweat. I've never done it before but I don't think that would scare me as much.

I learned to swim by being thrown into a pool when I was two years old, I didn't really learn by baby steps.

Was it your dad? Mine and Jack Daniels had a talk and decided I should swim, so they put their well planned plot in action and into the drink I went.

There a video on you tube, showing him filming Ghost Protocol while hanging outside the Burj Khalifa. Some people were in one of the rooms looking out the widow.
Then here comes Tom coasting down on a damn wire, dude smiles and waves at them.
I was LMAO watching that video.

Tom Cruise is the man. I can't wait to watch this movie. I am a big fan of the Mission Impossible franchise. I just really dislike the overuse of Dutch angles in the first one.

Being insane has not turned out to be an impediment to that man, the crazier he gets the bigger his stunts go.

For me, Collateral is Cruise's best work to date.
Jamie's extra Oscar nomination, should've went to him.

Tom Cruise is proof that anything is possible if you believe hard enough in aliens.

I just saw that stunt video on TV. That shit ain't as easy as it look even with all the wires. In the acceleration part you'll probably go "This is not that bad. I got this." but it's during the take off that you think "The fuck was I thinking?" lol! The blowing wind is just ridiculous.

Cruise Confirms MI6 Starts Next Summer
Back in May, it was reported that a sixth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise was already in early development over at Paramount and while it was considered somewhat of a rumor at the time, after Tom Cruise's appearance on last night's episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, it sounds like the initial report wasn't unfounded at all. Cruise revealed to Stewart that the sixth film is indeed a go, and he'll "probably start shooting it next summer." If all goes according to plan, this will be the fastest turnaround between Mission films as each of the past five installments have had lengthy separations of at least four years.

Well, you can't end it at 5. It's gotta be a trilogy. The whole Syndicate thing didn't start until Ghost Protocol and this movie will involve them heavily (I think) and if it's not concluded in this movie, it'll probably be expanded to the next one.

lol! You gotta read the rest of the post for it to make sense. I meant the second trilogy as in 4, 5 and 6. The Syndicate plot is what ties them together. I don't think they came up in the first trilogy.

Oh yeah from what I recall, the Syndicate started with GP.
Wonder if Cruise plans to make these until he literally dies during whatever insane stunt he's doing to top the last one.

I'd still watch it. It never gets old, I love this franchise. It got better as it progressed I think and you don't see that everyday. Except part 2, that one I like the least for some reason.

2 was definitely the worst in the franchise but I think 3 is still my favorite.

Tom Cruise was in control at the worldwide box office this weekend as Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation took off with $121M global. The international portion of that, $65M, topped the last film in the franchise, Ghost Protocol, by 49% on a like-for-like currency basis in the same market suite. The franchise to date has made about $2.1B with MIGP the biggest overseas at $485M. That was also Cruise’s best-ever showing offshore where his enduring and globe-trotting star-wattage and charm were on show in the past weeks at red-carpet premieres in Vienna, London and Seoul. He further flew to Tokyo this weekend for Monday’s Japanese debut ahead of this week’s release. The China bow is looming on September 8 in what was the biggest market on both Ghost Protocol and last year’s domestic underperformer Edge Of Tomorrow. This time around, Alibaba Pictures Group invested an undisclosed sum in Rogue Nation and has partnered with Paramount on promoting the movie in the Middle Kingdom. Before we get there, the upcoming frame also includes Germany and Russia.
