Fox's The Maze Runner: The Death Cure has shut down production for the foreseeable future because its star's injuries from an accident on set are more severe than initially expected.

Dylan O'Brien was injured while shooting the YA action-adventure sequel on March 18. Sources say he was in a harness on top of a moving vehicle when he was pulled off the vehicle unexpectedly and hit by another vehicle. A report from WorkSafeBC described his injuries to include "concussion, facial fracture and lacerations."

Production on the film was shut down in March in order for the actor to recover, with Fox believing it would only be a few weeks, and scheduling a May 9 resumption. However, sources now say that cast and crew have been sent home, and a new start date will depend on O'Brien's recovery and the ability to reassemble the large cast and crew. Insiders say O'Brien's injuries are more severe than first believed.

"His injuries are very serious and he needs more time to recover," said O’Brien’s publicist Jennifer Allen.

"The resumption of principal photography on Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O’Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible," said a statement from Fox.

The Fox project was slated for release on Feb, 17, 2017, but because of the lengthy delay, the film likely won't be able to make that date.

Wes Ball is directing the third film in the trilogy, in which O'Brien's character, Thomas, embarks on a mission to find a cure to a deadly disease known as the "Flare."

Ball released a statement soon after O'Brien was first injured in March. ""Well, it’s been a whirlwind of emotions these past few days. I’ve been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But, ultimately I find myself left with just a deep love and respect for Dylan. He is one tough cookie," he wrote.

I've seen nothing since the accident, very curious how fucked up his face is. This could also impact his Teen Wolf schedule if the Maze Runner delay gets moved into that slot.

‘Death Cure’ Moved To 2018 As O’Brien Recovers
A month after shutting down production on the film, Fox has officially rescheduled the theatrical release of Maze Runner: The Death Cure to January 12, 2018. Originally set for release February 17, 2017, production on the film was temporarily stopped March 28 after star Dylan O’Brien was injured during the filming of a stunt. Conflicting reports as to the full extend of O’Brien’s injuries soon emerged, but on April 29 Fox halted the production indefinitely to give him time to recover. No date for when production will resume has been announced.

Dylan's career shouldn't be affected by this.

His co-star Kaya Scoladaro has been getting some notice as well.

Meanwhile, her new hubby's career is flopping like a dead fish.

I read that Dylan is returning to Teen Wolf in the next few weeks since they're now filming season 6 but it won't be as intensive for him as the movies are so he can return to the show now. However, they won't pick up Death Cure filming until next February when it was originally scheduled for release.

That's cause Kaya's husband is still shitty and bland. What has she got coming up besides the next POTC? I like Kaya, I just don't really see her much.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure will now hit theaters on February 9, 2018 instead of January 12, 2018.

The third and final film in the Maze Runner franchise infamously shut down production last year when star Dylan O’Brien was seriously injured on set. O’Brien was given ample time to recover and then he shot the upcoming actioner American Assassin, so it’s only just now that The Death Cure has gone back into production. The January release date always seemed weird for a successful franchise, so this new February 9, 2018 date makes a bit more sense. It’ll now be squaring off directly against another trilogy-conclusion, Fifty Shades Freed, as well as the family film Peter Rabbit.

Walton Goggins Set For 'The Death Cure’
The Maze Runner: The Death Cure ($183,950,494) Walton10

Walton Goggins has joined the cast of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third installment of the 20th Century Fox film franchise that is now set for a February 9, 2018 release. The pic had been delayed after an injury to star Dylan O’Brien, but now production is on track to kick off in South Africa.

In the third pic, based on James Dashner’s third novel in his trilogy, O’Brien’s Thomas embarks on a mission to find a cure to a deadly disease knows as the “Flare.” The versatile Goggins, who was long-sought for the pic, will play Lawrence, an unusual and dangerous character who is part-revolutionary, part-anarchist, and a voice for the voiceless people.

Wes Ball directs, and T.S. Nowlin penned the script. Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman and Joe Hartwick Jr are producing via Temple Hill Entertainment and Gotham Group.

Goggins just wrapped Warner Bros/MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot opposite Alicia Vikander as well as Jon Avnet’s The Three Christs Of Ypsilanti. He also stars opposite Danny McBride in HBO’s Vice Principals which launches its Season 2 in the fall, and in History’s Navy SEAL series Six.

Saw this today, pretty good. Seems like the last of the YA craze, but I'd say this franchise has been the best.

Definitely a lot of action. It actually starts with the scene where Dylan was injured which was kinda good so I wasn't waiting for it anymore and it gave it some real suspense.

Like half the movie is just covering one event/attack

TV has developed into a better place for it.

I've always wanted to watch the Maze Runner series, but could never bring myself to do it. I keep thinking of Hunger Games, and the last two HG movies sucked. That really stopped me from checking them out.

Every series on the CW is about how only a 17 year old can save the world, so you would not be wrong with that assessment. Razz

However, YA films are still not done with, Speilberg's Ready Player One adaptation is expected to be the next big YA franchise. There's also the Mortal Instruments and I know there are several others still coming this year so it's not over yet.

Superheroes and super special teenagers are basically all we've got anymore in tv and film.

Didn't realize RP1 was the start of a franchise but I shouldn't be surprised
