Re: The Sony Hack (Gets WikiLeaked)
GHOSTBUSTERS Spinoff Starring Channing Tatum & Chris Pratt Is Being Planned
Director Paul Feig is currently working on his female-led Ghostbusters reboot for Sony, which we know from recent leaked emails could feature Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Lizzy Caplan or even Ryan Gosling. Though, that might not be the only Ghostbusters film in Sony's pipeline. According to emails that The Daily Beast has viewed, Channing Tatum ("21 Jump Street") pitched Sony executives on a Ghostbusters film that would be a spinoff of Feig's. Tatum wants to star in it, alongside his 10 Years co-star, Chris Pratt ("Jurassic World").An email from Tatum to Pascal concerning Ghostbusters dated August 21 says, “Let us show the world The DarkSide and let us fight it with all the glory and epicness of a HUGE BATMAN BEGINS MOVIE. I know we can make this a huge franchise. Fun adventure craziness. COME OONNNN!!!”
The next day, Hannah Minghella, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, sent an email to Amy Pascal outlining Tatum's plan, which also includes the Russo brothers ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier") as the film's producers. Who would possibly direct it? The Russo brothers would like Paul Feig to do a Ghostbusters double dip, and direct it as well.“So… in a curious turn of events - the Russos and Channing want to develop Ghostbusters as a vehicle for Channing and Chris Pratt to do together,” wrote Minghella. “The Russos, Channing and Reid have been brainstorming ideas and want to create a whole new mythology that would support multiple movies (the way that Nolan reinvented Batman). To be clear - the Russos want to produce (not direct) and while Channing and Chris are looking for a movie to do together they haven't mentioned this to him yet because they weren't sure how we'd react. They want to make it simultaneously super scary while also super funny. They love the idea that they are mortal heroes who are believers in the paranormal and the only people who can defend mankind from a paranormal threat. I know we're mid negotiations with Paul [Feig]. I'm not sure whether we'd ever develop two different versions simultaneously. Joe Russo is open to the idea that both movies could be developed in partnership so they compliment one another within the same Ghostbusters universe. Apparently the Russos are very close to Paul and Joe suggested Paul could be attached to direct both. Personally I think it's possible for the female version to co-exist with this other version so maybe they're not mutually exclusive.”

I don't want to see a Django/Zorro crossover. They couldn't come up with anything better? If you're serious about this, at least first start by talking about a Zorro reboot that's inevitably going to happen in the future.

Remember a few years back when 20th Century was moving forward with "Zorro Reborn" that would have starred Gael Garcia Bernal. It was a futuristic take and sounded awful.

RIGHT! I forgot all about that.
Also, what's this talk about 007 Spectre script being stolen? They just announced the movie recently. That's crazy!

Spoilers are all over online apparently, lol.
They are currently filming so they really rushed that thing cause the email was from Late October stated they didn't even have a script.

I wouldn't read the script even if I had it. Frankly, few people would actually read it I think. Anyway, I do wonder if they're talking about a new script or a delay for the movie already. This is a big blow to Sony for sure either way.

Everybody wants to read it so they can rip it apart. I know Gary loves reading scripts though.
I've read very few myself and typically only for alternate versions like the original Gremlins script cause it was HARD R.

Cyber-Terrorists Threaten Theatergoers On ‘The Interview’
In a move that should get the attention of everyone from Homeland Security to the so far slumbering MPAA, cyber-terrorists took a nasty turn in this Sony hacking scandal by invoking 9/11 and threatening possible attacks in theaters showing The Interview. The bottom of the message indicates that the Christmas Gift is aimed at Sony chief Michael Lynton. The hacked emails served up by websites so far have focused on dialogue involving Amy Pascal.
Here’s the missive, essentially a cover letter to a new pile of plundered documents:
We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places “The Interview” be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to.
Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made.
The world will be full of fear.
Remember the 11th of September 2001.
We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time.
(If your house is nearby, you’d better leave.)
Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
All the world will denounce the SONY.
The studio did not immediately comment, nor have they addressed my inquiries about whether they be boosting security in theaters when The Interview opens December 25. We have seen carnage in movie theaters, most recently in Aurora, Colorado shooting of The Dark Knight Rises. Warner Bros did not pull the movie, and there was no reason to, because it was an isolated incident. A better parallel might be the 1979 release of the Walter Hill-directed drama, and three people died in incidents related to the gang movie. Some 200 theaters nationwide installed security guards and many others refused to screen the film, released by Paramount.
UPDATE: No comment so far from NATO on behalf of the movie theaters, or from Sony. This will renew the discussion over whether Sony Pictures Entertainment should release The Interview. I had heard from sources that the expectation was that this “Christmas surprise” promised by the hackers would likely be the online release of The Interview, in hopes of diluting the theatrical business. The film wasn’t among those leaked earlier to the web by hackers, a group of films that included Annie. Part of the document dump included the money shot of The Interview, where North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is blown up. The site Defamer brazenly posted a film clip, which is marked “Property Of Sony,” and basically shows the end of the movie.

I like how they're still trying to blame Sony. North Korea (and a number of Americans) don't seem to understand that the ones attacking in retaliation to a movie are the bad guys, not the studio for releasing a movie.

Wait! Kim Jong Un must be a big fan of Seth Rogen and James Franco, that makes this personal, but he doesn't want to blame them, so he blames Sony. That's the only thing that makes the slightest bit of sense.

They're speculating that it is going to be released on Christmas Day along with all the other files. If not all this hype is going to make a shitload of money for this movie. If nothing had been said it would have come out, bombed and been forgotten but now TWENTY GOD DAMNED YEARS FROM NOW, people will still remember when Seth Rogen's shitty movie nearly took down Sony, lol.

A previous report by Bloomberg said Sony execs altered the gory finale of The Interview, toning down the extent to which Kim Jong Un's head is exploded and set aflame. But the movie faced more problems than just Supreme Leader's immolation scene—Sony executives and distribution partners around the world were worried that the movie was too offensive, "desperately unfunny," and worst of all, starred James Franco.
Emails sent from UK Sony Pictures exec Peter Taylor to president of Sony Pictures Releasing International Steven O'Dell are particularly harsh, describing the comedy as a "misfire," "unfunny and repetitive," with "a level of realistic violence that would be shocking in a horror movie." Taylor holds one of the film's co-stars in particularly low regard, James Franco.

That's a reflection of Rogen. He's the un-funniest "funny" cunt on the planet. Franco is solid on all levels. If the movie was funny, Franco will be funny. If it appears otherwise, it's because viewers have been numbed by Rogen's fuck-tardese, and it left Franco with nothing to work with.

It's not Sony, after the threat they announced to theaters that they have the right to not show the movie after much request and its the theater owners who are bowing to the pressure.

ALL MAJOR THEATRES PULLING THE INTERVIEW FROM RELEASE SCHEDULE
The movie looks dead: All of the major exhibition chains including Regal, AMC, Cinemark and Cineplex are expected to announce today that they have decided not to show Sony’s The Interview following a hacker threat yesterday against venues that show the controversial comedy. Yesterday Sony gave theater owners the option to back away from the film. Earlier today their trade group, the National Association of Theatre Owners, said that ” individual cinema operators may decide to delay exhibition of the movie so that our guests may enjoy a safe holiday movie season experiencing the many other exciting films we have to offer.”
Cinemark is still dealing with legal actions from the fatal 2012 shootings in one of its theaters in Aurora, Colorado.

North Korea-Based Thriller With Gore Verbinski And Steve Carell Canceled
by Mike Fleming Jr December 17, 2014 12:44pm
EXCLUSIVE: The chilling effect of the Sony Pictures hack and terrorist threats against The Interview are reverberating. New Regency has scrapped another project that was to be set in North Korea. The untitled thriller, set up in October, was being developed by director Gore Verbinski as a star vehicle for Foxcatcher star Steve Carell. The paranoid thriller written by Steve Conrad was going to start production in March. Insiders tell me that under the current circumstances, it just makes no sense to move forward. The location won’t be transplanted. Fox declined to distribute it, per a spokesman.
Regency has other movies with Verbinski as part of a multiyear, multipicture deal, and they will focus on them. He moves on to A Cure For Wellness, an elevated horror film written by Revolutionary Road scribe Justin Haythe, and Passengers. There also is a large-scale action comedy scripted by Conrad. The plan was to make three films in quick succession. Now they will make two that way.

North Korea Behind Massive Cyber Attack Against Sony, Feds Say
North Korean leaders ordered the attack against Sony Pictures Entertainment, the U.S, Justice Department is expected to announce as early as tomorrow, sources tell Deadline.
The attack that began November 24, and continued to unfold nearly daily, came to a climax today with Sony cancelling the scheduled December 25 release of The Interview. A mysterious group calling itself Guardians of Peace had claimed credit for the attack on the studio over the movie — a comedy about a talk show host and producer asked by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The only acceptable response by the US is a nuclear strike on Pyongyang. I say that as...
Contacted by Deadline, the FBI declined to comment on the report of the Justice Department’s findings which began to dominate the TV news cycle this afternoon. U.S. Rep Ed Royce (R-Calif), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said this afternoon on CNN that he’s been told the attack had been undertaken “at the behest of a foreign government.” That includes the threat that people going to the Christmas debut of the movie would face a September 11 experience.
Word of the Justice Department’s findings came shortly after Sony announced it had decided to delay the debut of The Interview. “Sony Pictures has been the victim of an unprecedented criminal assault against our employees, our customers, and our business. Those who attacked us stole our intellectual property, private emails, and sensitive and proprietary material, and sought to destroy our spirit and our morale – all apparently to thwart the release of a movie they did not like,” the studio said in a statement issued after the major theater chains announced they would not show the film, citing theater-goers security concerns.

Some believe that the Christmas gift will be a massive dump of ALL Sony films currently unreleased. Including all workprints and special effects segments. Acording to figures I saw this morning, the dumped documents account for on 300GB of 100TB or 0.2%! Can you imagine what is still LEFT??? There are at least 22 films in all various stages of production, editing, scoring, and all other stages of the process that could potentially just be dumped online cause Sony to lose millions over the next several years. I'd say billions but really I've seen the lineup and outside of Bond they've got like two or three money making titles at best. Just looking at their lineup you see no real future over the next 2-3 years, it's pretty sad based on their development schedule.
But no I will not feel bad for Sony, they are a greedy, poorly run corporation. I'm sure they have a few employees who aren't horrible people, but until I see those emails to prove it, I won't believe it.

Threads of this story are popping out all over the place, and here’s the latest: CNN reported that an email, purportedly from the hackers, was sent to top Sony execs following the decision to pull The Interview, calling it a “very wise decision”. The email went on to imply that as long as the movie was kept out of theaters and elsewhere, the attacks would end, but it implied a new threat that if the movie was released on VOD or otherwise, that the threats would continue. Our sources confirm that such a missive was received by Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal and CEO Michael Lynton, but it’s unclear how it will impact events going forward.

Guardians Of Peace Message for the FBI?A mysterious email, apparently from the Guardians of Peace, the cyber terrorists who are inflicting harm upon Sony, was sent around to the media this morning with the following message and a YouTube link. “By GOP. The result of investigation by FBI is so excellent that you might have seen what we were doing with your own eyes. We congratulate you success. FBI is the BEST in the world. You will find the gift for FBI at the following address.” Click on the link, a montage video set to hyper dance music plays with a series of happy faces. The refrain “You are an idiot” is played repeatedly through the video with the happy face atop a gyrating cartoon body. The email, entitled “The data you are interested in,” included a link to a Pastebin page with a taunting note aimed toward the FBI who claimed yesterday that North Korea as the source of the hack.

As I've suspected all along, North Korea is most likely not behind this.
So much fuckery and stupidity if the Government TRULY believes this shit is from North Korea. smh
But independent, skeptical security experts have been poking holes in this theory for days now. Evidence provided by the FBI last week in an official accusation against the North Korean government was really more of a reference to evidence—all we got were bullet points, most of them rehashing earlier clues. It still doesn't seem like enough to definitively pin the attacks to North Korea.

A Lot of Smart People Think North Korea Didn't Hack Sony
But independent, skeptical security experts have been poking holes in this theory for days now. Evidence provided by the FBI last week in an official accusation against the North Korean government was really more of a reference to evidence—all we got were bullet points, most of them rehashing earlier clues. It still doesn't seem like enough to definitively pin the attacks to North Korea.
But the weightiest rebuttal of the case against North Korea has come from renowned hacker, DEFCON organizer, and CloudFlare researcher Marc Rogers, who makes a compelling case of his own. Highlights below:
The broken English looks deliberately bad and doesn't exhibit any of the classic comprehension mistakes you actually expect to see in "Konglish". i.e it reads to me like an English speaker pretending to be bad at writing English.
[...]
It's clear from the hard-coded paths and passwords in the malware that whoever wrote it had extensive knowledge of Sony's internal architecture and access to key passwords. While it's plausible that an attacker could have built up this knowledge over time and then used it to make the malware, Occam's razor suggests the simpler explanation of an insider. It also fits with the pure revenge tact that this started out as.
Furthermore, "The attackers only latched onto "The Interview" after the media did – the film was never mentioned by GOP right at the start of their campaign. It was only after a few people started speculating in the media that this and the communication from DPRK "might be linked" that suddenly it became linked."
Even after the FBI officially named North Korea as orchestrators, Rodgers remains entirely unconvinced by their case:
What the FBI is essentially saying here is that some of the IP addresses found while analyzing the malware samples and the logs of the attack have been used in the past by North Korea. To me, this piece of evidence is perhaps the least convincing of all. IP addresses are often quite nebulous things. They are addresses of machines connected to the Internet. They are neither good, nor bad.
The IP address is never what is interesting. It's what's running on the system that has that IP address that is interesting. Furthermore, to imply that some addresses are permanent fixtures used by North Korean hackers implies a fundamental misunderstanding of how the internet works and in particular how hackers operate.
[...]
So where does that leave us? Well essentially it leaves us exactly where we were when we started. We don't have any solid evidence that implicates North Korea, while at the same time we don't have enough evidence to rule North Korea out. However, when you take into consideration the fact that the attackers, GOP, have now released a message saying that Sony can show "the Interview" after all, I find myself returning to my earlier instincts – this is the work of someone or someones with a grudge against Sony and the whole "Interview" angle was just a mixture of opportunity and "lulz".
