In Hell or High Water , two brothers, Toby (Chris Pine) and Tanner (Ben Foster), go on a calculated bank robbery spree that puts them on a collision course with a West Texas Ranger (Jeff Bridges) determined to take them down.

With a solid cast, interesting characters and story.

I think I understand where he's coming from cause sometimes you get the guy from Crazy Heart and True Grit but mostly you just get the guy Seventh Son and RIPD. How his entire speech pattern has degraded into a permanent state of 1860's saloon keeper is beyond me though.

Exactly. Unfortunately, this role seems less Dude calibre, and more, not Dude calibre.

This is not what I expected. Great performance from Pine but other than that, the story was boring for me.

Watched this this last night.

Loved it. Tyler Sheridan is two for two. Love the world and characters he creates.

Foster and Pine had great chemistry - easily Pine's best work. Bridges was great. The trailer had me worried because of his Rooster-esque voice, but nothing was overboard.

Pine is clearly the better actor, of the THREE guys named Chris.

I remember an indie flick he did a few years ago.

Also stars Lou Taylor Pucci, who recently starred in the criminally underrated Body horror film Spring.

What wasn't to like?

A bank knows there is oil on a land, loans a woman money knowing she won't be able to pay it back, with the intent of foreclosing and getting the oil money for themselves. Instead, the deceased woman's sons decide to rob said bank, and use its own money to pay off the loan, mere hours before the deadline - the banks loses on both ends.

I like slow single issue stories. Stories about normal people, from normal places. When done right they seem like they're made just for me. This was one of those movie.

The dialogue was crisp and witty without trying too hard (too many films can't say that), the acting was subtle and superb ... and it looked fantastic. There something about movies shot in that part of the US that appeals to me.

Plus it was just a good fucking movie.

I never want to see another movie about saving New York from alien destruction.

Sounds similar to Out of the Furnace.

No explosions

Endless CGI

etc...

Just a simple, straightforward story.

Well executed by a solid writer, actors and director.

Carriers was a decent movie from what I recall, I think I Redboxed it at the time of release. I'd never heard anything about it before or since.

Lou Taylor most recently recurred on Falling Water this season.
