Ready Player One ($580,468,505)
In a development that puts him near the top of young actors to watch, Tye Sheridan just won the starring role in the Steven Spielberg-directed adaptation of Ready Player One, which is being made by Warner Bros, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks. He plays the protagonist Wade, opposite Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn, who plays Nolan Sorrento.
For Sheridan, it’s the latest in a short career full of landing showy roles and making the most of the opportunity. He made his debut in the 2011 Terrence Malick-directed The Tree Of Life. The Texas-born teen followed starring opposite Matthew McConaughey in the Jeff Nichols-directed Mud, for which he shared the Robert Altman Award at the Independent Spirit Awards. He has several upcoming films that include playing the young Cyclops in the Bryan Singer-directed X-Men: Apocalypse. So we’ll grant him a mulligan for Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse, which he starred in last fall.
Landing Spielberg for Ready Player One was a big coup for Warner Bros and its production chief Greg Silverman. It’s based on the Ernest Cline cult favorite novel, and the film’s being produced Spielberg, De Line Pictures’ Donald De Line, Dan Farah, and Spielberg’s longtime collaborator Kristie Macosko Krieger. Daniel Lupi and Bruce Berman are exec producing. Silverman and Jesse Ehrman are overseeing for Warner Bros.

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

I've seen Tye in multiple films over the last several years, I think he's gonna have a big career but this is his first lead role in a blockbuster film unlike his ensemble role in X-Men Apocalypse so it's really gonna be a big test for his career.

I saw a trailer for this when I went to see.... I wanna say Thor. This didn't look good at all.
Maybe the trailer didn't do it justice but my first thought was "Who the hell greenlighted this?".

It's Spielberg's take on a very popular book. Steven gets to make whatever he wants.

Okay, I would like to apologize for my previous comment regarding this film.
I just saw this and the trailer is garbage. I had no idea what the movie was about but thought it looked silly.
Just got home from watching this and I will say this was the best of the three movies I watched this week (so far). I went in knowing nothing about this movie and I have no idea how faithful this movie is to the book but I will say it is pretty damn fun.
Just goes to show you can't just a movie by it's trailer.
Highly recommended if you like sci-fi and some wild effects. And, yea, Chucky is in this briefly.

But it's over 3 minutes.............
Why won't you bastards just answer my damn Chucky question!?!?!?!?!?
Re: Ready Player One ($580,468,505)
Without spoiling too much, Chucky makes an appearance but he is not a speaking character.
If you really want to know what his role is in this movie, see the spoiler below:
The people in the theater were younger so I could tell no one knew who Chucky was because I was the only one in there cracking up and going nuts when he came out.

- Spoiler:
- So the game is about a virtual reality universe. Toward the end, there is a huge battle between all the avatars and the bad guys. Parzival is riding in the Back to the Future DeLorean with Art3mis and they are out of ammunition. One of Parzival's buddies hands him and item to use and the item turns out to be Chucky. Chucky is, like the movies, completely nuts and tries to kill Parzival and Art3mis but Parzival throws Chucky out of the car toward the bad guys and Chucky goes ape and starts stabbing and "killing" the bad guys.

We are now living in a world where kids don't know the Child's Play franchise??? But they've been on Netflix.................

Saw this today and was also very pleasantly surprised.
Plot wasn't needlessly complicated. They didn't set rules up just to break them. Most references weren't over explained.
There's a part somewhere around the middle that is just gold.
