Black Panther (July 6, 2018)

Post by WyldeMan on 12/4/2015, 10:15 pm

“Creed” helmer Ryan Coogler is in talks to direct Marvel’s “Black Panther,” sources confirm for Variety.

Kevin Feige is producing the film which stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, the prince of the African nation of Wakanda, who must take over the mantel after his father’s murder.

Joe Robert Cole is penning the script.

This marks the second time the studio has approached Coogler about directing the film and at the time he didn’t feel it was the right fit for him and returned to finish post-production on “Creed.” With “Creed” now behind him, Coogler had a change of heart and took the studio up on the offer of directing the film.

Marvel previously considered director Ava DuVernay for the job as well as F. Gary Gray. The film will hits theaters on July 6, 2018.

“Creed is coming off a big opening weekend where it brought in more than $40 million dollar with awards pundits seeing it having a shot at a run at an Oscar so obviously was looked as one of the hotter helmers in town. Coogler first broke out on to the scene with the Sundance hit “Fruitvale Station,” which also had a hand in launching “Creed” star Michael B. Jordan’s career as well.

OFFICIAL: CREED Director Ryan Coogler Will Direct Marvel's BLACK PANTHER

Ryan Coogler will direct Marvel's Black Panther

Now, take a minute to digest that.

A few short moments ago, Marvel Studios officially announced that Ryan Coogler, director/writer of critically acclaimed films such as Creed & Fruitvale Station, will in fact helm the eighteenth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Black Panther. The film will star Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa and is expected to hit theaters February 16, 2018.

Marvel president Kevin Feige released this statement about Coogler, who is easily the most accomplished director Marvel has landed to date, signing on: “We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family, The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.

Yep, great choice. She's part Kenyan too I think so it's kind of a perfect choice.

Yeah, I don't know about Jordan. He's a good actor but I don't know about this role for him.

It's rumored that TFA's John Boyega might be the next to sign.

That's almost always a confirmation when management shuts it down that fast. They don't want publicity to ruin potential unsigned deals.

Same. I just can't watch them anymore. They've become the generic big-budget action film.

The Cap solo films I will watch. And I do want to watch Logan (I'm waiting for the Black & White version). That's about it.

This isn't just any old SH film, for obvious reasons.

A huge deal for me, for the same obvious reasons.

Black Panther should be a big deal, the same Wonder Woman should have been but at this point there isn't a single SH film I am looking forward to.

Now if Blade ever comes back, I'll be there.
