Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (January 27, 2017)
The cast of the closing chapter of Screen Gems’ Resident Evil franchise has grown with the addition of Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, and William Levy. The film stars Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter, with Paul W.S. Anderson directing his script. Shooting starts this month in South Africa.
Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.

I've always enjoyed this franchise for what it was. The only people let down were the gamers and I've never played a single Resident Evil game before. Surprised that it took this long to make the final one though. The last one ended in a cliff hangers and we've been hanging ever since. lol!

It hasn't really been that long, they've always come out at a consistent pace but the wait will be the longest for the final chapter at about four and a half years after Retribution. Though I only saw Retribution one time and it didn't exactly leave me clamoring for another one right away, my palette needed a few more years to cleanse that one.
Resident Evil (2002)
Apocalypse (2004)
Extinction (2007)
Afterlife (2010)
Retribution (2012)

I remember seeing the first one and being really underwhelmed, then the second one came out and made it look like the whole first movie was just leading up to this awesomeness...and it was far worse. I haven't bothered with anything since. Good riddance.

I've seen em all and enjoyed em all except for Retribution. I wasn't an RE gamer so for me they're just mindless zombie fun.

I played a little bit of one game, it was too RPG for me. More time messing with your inventory than actually moving or doing anything.

A few years back I picked up a real cheap copy of RE6 for PS3 and tried to give it a go, found that inventory complaint to be true but for me Wesker proved to be an unbeatable opponent and it became so frustrating I quit the game near the end without ever finishing it. Had no interest to play another RE game so I like the movies for what they are. Also its a very short running franchise over 5 movies it only spans 7.5 hours.

I remember seeing Afterlife. The video and sound quality on the bloo were fantastic. I have yet to see Retribution but from what I've read from you guys, it was pretty awful. Still, I'm a completist and I will have to watch Retribution and Afterlife. In the whole series, I liked Extinction best.

It probably wasn't terrible, the one time I saw it I'm pretty sure I was fairly drunk. I plan to watch all five movies again soon so I'll get a sober chance to re-evaluate since I remember being mainly confused and I think that was due to my inability to completely focus at time of viewing.

I call this franchise Resident Action.
It moved further away from horror with each sequel.
I think the main reason VG fans hate it, the protagonist is a non-canon character.
Alice.
Last one I saw in theaters was Resident Evil:Afterlife.
Like Doom, decent popcorn fare, but poor film adaptations of the VG they're based on.

Filming began on September 17th, William Levy posted a pic of himself in wardrobe.
Along with a brief video of them filming a scene on his IG page.

For me the fact that each movie is only 95 minutes means they sacrifice story for action every time. Five movies in I still don't really know any of the characters, very little has ever been revealed about anybody. Most of the time the story is completely lost in the explosions, which is typically what audiences love, just look at the entire career of Michael Bay. I've always felt each movie could be at least another 25 minutes longer but not for explosions for storytelling and character development since there is almost none.

Paul has it in him to make a great genre film, Event Horizon is so underrated.
Aside from the first one, the RE films are action showcases to show off his wife Milla J.
I like her, but it is what it is.

Too bad he doesn't show off that she's a solid dramatic actress, you wouldn't really know that judging by the five films he's showcased her in. It's always her other projects where I find myself impressed with her work, not the RE movies which are as about as well crafted as an Avengers film, 90% Boom 10% story.

But considering across five movies she's never been given one real scene of dialogue, no monologues of any kind, most people only have the RE films to judge her on.

I was familiar with Milla going back to Dazed and Confused so I knew her work prior to Fifth Element, another movie where she wasn't exactly given much to work with in the dialogue department. Seems like sci-fi is all she's known for and it's pretty much just where she shows the most skin and shoots the most stuff.

I never paid attention to the release dates but it looks like an average of about 3 years. I just figured they'd make the next one in 2 years at the very least because of how it ended, four and a half is enough for people to move on with this franchise.
Mia and Ali look so hot in that pic!

Resident Evil just isn't a franchise that demands a quick turnaround. They don't even make money stateside, Afterlife has the highest domestic gross for a RE film at just $60 million. The total domestic gross of this franchise which has already spanned 13 years and 5 live action movies. This franchise only still exists because of foreign markets where it has grossed nearly a billion dollars compared to the 1/4 of that they gross here. My point the only time sequels get rushed is when it can benefit the studio financially but a movie like this is going to do exactly the same business or less than the previous five entries, so they'll continue to take their time. Just post-convert this to 3D and the foreigners will roll in, doesn't matter how many years have passed.

Afterlife's 3D wasn't post conversion.
Not sure about Retribution, skipped that one in theaters.

Either way, I've had nothing but crappy experiences with 3D and refuse to watch any movie in that gimmicky form. Wish they'd stop filming and post converting into that garbage format but it's just not going away.

Crewmember Killed on Latest ‘Resident Evil’ Film
There’s been another tragic accident on the South African set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, this one taking the life of crew member Ricardo Cornelius. He was killed on Dec. 3, but reports are just now surfacing. None of the production or distribution companies involved has yet to make a public statement or express their condolences. The film, which has completed production, was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who has also remained mum about it.Reports out of South Africa indicate that Cornelius was standing near a Humvee that was parked on a rotating platform when it slid off and crushed him against a wall. Rushed to a hospital, he died a few hours later.“Can’t imagine a life without you, not in this life or the next 10,” his wife of one year, Shafiefa Cornelius, wrote on her Facebook page as he lay dying in the hospital. “Hope you get well soon and that you will be home in no time.”His death comes just two months after stuntwoman Olivia Jackson was nearly killed on the film when a motorcycle she was riding at high speed crashed into a piece of camera equipment, leaving her with major injuries to her face, head and left arm. After coming of a two-week medically induced coma, she now faces the amputation of her arm.“My left arm is paralyzed and is going to have to be amputated,” she told the British newspaper The Sun. “My facial scarring is horrible and I wish I had my old face. But I’m truly grateful to be alive.”

Is Wentworth Miller in this? Wasn't he in the last movie?
