Bone Tomahawk (Kurt Russell / Patrick Wilson / Matthew Fox)

Post by WyldeMan on 9/1/2015, 12:02 pm

When a group of cannibal savages kidnaps settlers from the small town of Bright Hope, an unlikely team of gunslingers, led by Sheriff Franklin Hunt (Russell), sets out to bring them home. But their enemy is more ruthless than anyone could have imagined, putting their mission – and survival itself – in serious jeopardy.

Bone Tomahawk  stars Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Lili Simmons and Richard Jenkins.

The film is produced by Dallas Sonnier, Jack Heller, and Gregory Zuk of Caliber Media (Dark Was the Night, Some Kind of Hate) and executive produced by the Fyzz Facility’s Wayne Marc Godfrey (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For), Robert Jones (The Usual Suspects), and David Gilbrey (Red vs. Dead).

Oh I did a few weeks back, it wasn't anything like I'd hoped or expected. I was confused for a large part of it.

I just didn't really understand the point of Andrew Wilson's pre-existing injury, they crippled him right from the start and then it just got worse. Also the fact that no answers of any kind being provided is what threw me. I just couldn't understand what drew this cast to that script. I'd have read it and burned it. Kurt Russell isn't desperate for work, he's not Matthew Fox.

Before the events that occurred, he fell off their roof.

While doing repairs.

This was The Seachers, with cannibals.

Bone Tomahawk was decent, but could've been exceptional.

After one of the robbers was killed on the burial ground, the
Supernatural angle was dropped.

That was a ghost that gutted him, right?

The stand out was Richard Jenkins, I liked Chickory.

What's the deal, with Matthew Fox doing weird voices?

I wasn't confused as to how he initially got hurt so much as to why begin the movie where your alleged hero is hobbling around from the opening minute. He spent so much of the movie crawling on his belly that I couldn't fathom why Patrick Wilson (No idea why I said Andrew) was in this, that role did not require anyone of his caliber.

I wasn't sure if this was supposed to be a Supernatural story or not, I thought it was a traditional western cause I'd never even see a trailer prior to watching so I was very taken aback by the 7 foot tall Cannibals. It appeared like they were an African tribe in the middle of Indian Country and since we were provided with no details at all as to what they where so I just couldn't enjoy it, I'm someone who demands answers.

I've only seen Matthew Fox in 2 movies since Lost ended, I don't think he's going to have a career for too much longer. Funny that the series lead from one of the biggest shows in TV history has turned out to be the least successful cast member of that show. Probably something to do with the fact that he's such an asshole.

The tribe was all male, those women briefly shown probably were captured. Living in a  cave, like the Sawney Bean Clan.

We had to assume those women were all captured since they had no arms, legs, eyes or ears and there were no details provided. But I just couldn't wrap my head around the complete vagueness of the story or what it needed to be so short. I went in expecting a traditional western but when it appeared to take a supernatural pivot I was ready to roll with it but it never went anywhere.

Watched this just a few days ago on Blu.

Wasn't bad, but, like above, when I first saw Arquette's buddy get gutted, I thought it was heading in a more supernatural direction. It looked nothing like what we were shown later on.

Patrick Wilson was wasted. Having him at a handicap only works if you put the effort into his character, which they didn't do.

Same goes for Matthew Fox. I like that guy, but his character was bare bones.

Despite its 2+ hour run-time, it didn't seem that long. Could have easily done with another 20 minutes or so of better character development.

Richard Jenkins stole the show. Chicory was a delight.

That was my biggest complaint, they literally could have cast any random nobody for that role since he turned out to be such a boring and pointless character. All he did was let Kurt's character get gutted cause he was too crippled to move. They hobbled him on Jump Street then decided they needed to further his injuries cause nothing says exciting leading man like a guy who sleeps the day away cause of injury.

This morning I caught a repeat of the season three X-Files episode "Home" about the Cannibalistic Peacock family including their inbred mother with no arms or legs who lived under the bed. While re-watching that episode I couldn't help but feel like this was the inspiration for Bone Tomahawk. Only that 42 minute episode provided more answers.
