Without Remorse (Michael B. Jordan) (April 30, 2021 @ Amazon Prime)
An elite Navy SEAL uncovers an international conspiracy while seeking justice for the murder of his pregnant wife in 'Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse', the explosive origin story of action hero John Clark – one of the most popular characters in author Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe. When a squad of Russian soldiers kills his family in retaliation for his role in a top-secret op, Sr. Chief John Kelly (Michael B. Jordan) pursues the assassins at all costs. Joining forces with a fellow SEAL (Jodie Turner-Smith) and a shadowy CIA agent (Jamie Bell), Kelly’s mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S. and Russia in an all-out war. Torn between personal honor and loyalty to his country, Kelly must fight his enemies without remorse if he hopes to avert disaster and reveal the powerful figures behind the conspiracy.
Without Remorse is directed by Stefano Sollima (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, ZeroZeroZero), from Paramount Pictures, Skydance, and New Republic Pictures. In addition to Jordan, Without Remorse stars Jodie Turner-Smith, Jamie Bell, Guy Pearce, Lauren London, and Cam Gigandet. The screenplay is penned by Taylor Sheridan and Will Staples. Producers on Without Remorse include Jordan, Akiva Goldsman, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec.

Well if Without Remorse does suck, it won't be because Taylor Sheridan can't write.

Looks good, but there's some clunky dialogue delivery in that.
"They better hope he doesn't survive"
Straight out of the 80's.

Agree with Russ, there were a couple of lines that we've heard countless times before. Still, action looks great.

Damn, that is some 80's cheese but they still pulled back.
I'd have opted for "They better hope he wakes up dead".

To be fair, There's only so much you can do with 90 seconds. They edit shit how ever they see fit for trailers, so that may have just been the trailer house trying to make it sound cool - the actual conversation in the film might play out with far less cringe (and I'd hope so coming from Taylor).
Definitely still checking it out when it drops. Hope it's good. Being a Tom Clancy character, there's definitely a market for sequels - and Michael B Jordan's a good drawcard.

I enjoyed Without Remorse even though it felt exactly like the 90's Clancy adaptations right down to being entirely predictable from the first few minutes and lasting the entirety of the movie. I saw every "twist" coming like an hour before it finally happened but other than that, it was an enjoyable movie and set up the franchise for future sequels.

Watched this today. Decent enough and about as expected as the story goes. Nothing ground breaking but still enjoyable and firmly sets up future films and tie-ins.
Was happy when Kelly called himself a Ghost - was hoping that was a hint towards some kind of Ghost Recon future - however the mid credit scene put an end to that. Looks like we'll be getting Rainbow Six as the sequel, and given that his new name is now John Clark, it opens up the real possibility of him popping up in season 3 of Jack Ryan (also an Amazon title), or even Krasinski's Ryan showing up in Rainbow Six in some form or fashion.

I seem to remember Clark running covert missions for a President Jack Ryan and I was wondering about a crossover potential but I think with the formation of Rainbow that we're likely to get a few solo op movies for Clark before we can even think of a crossover.
I'd prefer they worked on developing a tighter script the next time around because Remorse was as basic as it comes and I was expecting more from Sheridan.

Good movie. But, yes, I saw the twist coming too. And that actor usually plays these types of cunning characters so it's obvious to see what's going on. I do hope for a sequel and also a crossover with Jack Ryan, I want to see them build and expand this world because there is a lot of potential for great stories.

I think you’ll find that Sheridan’s involvement was more about punching up the dialogue ona bland script, as opposed to storyline. The structure had a very video game feel - as if it was a bunch of cut scenes put together, and the other writer was a writer on a few Call of Duty games. So no surprise there really.

Guy Pierce hasn't played a good guy since the 90's, so I was right there with you. Once Pierce showed up, I literally had no other suspects the entire movie.
Unfortunately I also also instantly recognized the surviving "Russian" during the home invasion sequence as the very American comedian Brett Gelman from Stranger Things, so I instantly made the connection to Pierce's character yet again.
Although at the same time, it did amuse me because of how much Gelman's Stranger Things character is paranoid about Russian spies and in Remorse he was supposed to be one but he turned out be an American Spy playing a Russian spy.

That would make more sense, I was pretty confused by such crappy writing when Sheridan has always been more more consistent in the past.

It wasn't Sicario level but not bad overall.
