Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($858,365,222) (Another Sequel Being Fast Tracked) Kevin-10

Sony is getting closer to rebooting a Robin Williams classic with two of the busiest actors in town.

Sources tell Variety Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are in early talks to star in Sony’s “Jumanji,” a new adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s original 1981 adventure book.

Schedules are still being worked out, as both Johnson and Hart have heavy production loads ahead, but insiders say things are moving toward a deal.

Johnson has an opening this fall with his New Line pic “Rampage” possibly shifting to 2017. The plan would be to shoot “Jumanji” before the third season of his HBO series “Ballers.” Johnson will also shoot “Fast 8” this summer, reprising his role of Agent Hobbs.

Hart is expected to shoot “The Intouchables” remake for Weinstein this summer opposite Bryan Cranston, and according to sources, working out this part of the schedule could prove difficult.

The pair showed great chemistry after co-hosting the MTV Movie Awards, and with anticipation high for their upcoming New Line action comedy “Central Intelligence,” Sony sees this as the perfect opportunity to pair the two up again for a tentpole.

Jake Kasdan is on board to direct with the pic set to bow on July 28, 2017.

Sony-based Matt Tolmach is producing the project with William Teitler. Ted Field, Mike Weber and Van Allsburg will executive produce. Principal photography is expected to start this August in Honolulu, HI.

The reboot’s script has been written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, based on a draft by the original writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

The 1995 “Jumanji” movie starred Williams, Kirsten Dunst, David Alan Grier, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde and Bebe Neuwirth. The story centers on a 12-year-old boy who becomes trapped in a board game in 1969 and is released 26 years later.

While the original was heavy on action elements, Williams’ comedic talents helped deliver the light-hearted family adventure pic the studio wanted. Hart has demonstrated his physical comedy abilities in films like “Ride Along.”

Hart has already had a busy 2016 with “Ride Along 2” bringing in $91 million at the domestic box office. His stand-up comedy pic “Kevin Hart: What Now?” bows Oct. 14 and he is also voicing a character in Illumination’s “The Secret Life of Pets.”

And the #JUMANJI magic begins. Excellent meeting with our director Jake Kasdan, producer Matt Tolmach, and our @SevenBucksProd team to work on our new re-imagining of this amazing story. I felt like in order to craft something cool we should begin where it all started. Award winning writer Chris Van Allsburg's source material of JUMANJI. Chris also wrote THE POLAR EXPRESS (later adapted by Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks) and has a very special & magical way of storytelling. I'm feelin' good and confident stepping into these shoes as a producer as well as actor to bring you something great that you and your entire fam can enjoy. An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of "Alan Parrish" will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud. I also think Robin is somewhere lookin' down and laughing, remembering the first time we met backstage and I (for the first time ever) was a star struck bumbling idiot that couldn't even get my words out. Idiot. He literally calmed me down w/ that smile and laugh. But that's for another fun story down the road. We got a great team assembled already over at our home base of SONY and now we build from here. Here's another fun part... in the original movie there were three big roles. In our new story there's now FIVE. Been so damn cool to see all my actor buddies push their projects aside so hopefully they can come play in our world. Should have cool casting announcements this week. Will keep you posted. #TheMagicBegins #JustPressStart #JUMANJI

Dwayne still has that Midas touch right now so every franchise that needs some Viagra, gets Johnson.

I feel like Samuel L Jackson and Ben Kingsley are going to show up too.

However, Jack Black is rumored to be in actual talks.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($858,365,222) (Another Sequel Being Fast Tracked) 13118010
IT'S OFFICIAL: An ol' friend is ready to play in the world of #JUMANJI... JACK (mf'n) BLACK. Been a big fan of his work over the years. A brilliant actor who I'm confident will turn in a performance of a lifetime for JUMANJI. (when we reveal his character you'll understand;). In our reimagining of the story of JUMANJI, Jack brings that rare balance of cool with funny and edge with childlike joy. The "Jumanji Breakfast Club" is coming together.. myself, Jack (mf'n) Black and Kevin Hart. Two big roles left. One bad ass girl. One semi-sorta bad ass dude. Who will they be... this is gonna be fun. #JUMANJI #WelcomesJackBlack #JustPressStart #TheGameThatPlaysYou

But he's still got the Midas touch.

Granted his films are all style and very little substance, maybe in a few years he'll calm down but right now he's still the highest paid actor on the planet and none of his films have bombed. You'd think he might parlay some of that success into one or two films of real quality but he's too busy chasing ass.

The guy works hard. Ain't nothing wrong with doing a little family movie. Won't outdo the original but it should at least be fun.

Curious if the game is found in the beach like the ending in Jumanji. I always expected a sequel because of that.

You've actually seen the original? I'm stunned. You've actually seen a movie from the 90's! haha

Oddly enough, I never saw the original.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK ME! This was a bad idea. Not what I had in mind at all. They changed Jumanji into the video game?
Lame! I assumed the game board would be found again because it was last seen on a beach somewhere. They wanted it to be so different that they changed the characters and their sex completely, unbelievable. It's so 2017. Rolling Eyes

It was hard to top the first one anyways, RIP Robin Williams. It brings back so many fond memories watching that movie. That said, I will check this movie out, if not for an ok movie then at the very least for Dwayne and Karen.

I just want to go and slap who ever came up with this dumb idea. The first one had so much heart and lesson in it, wish this one had the same tone and a bit more serious until the game starts but whatever.

Scott Rosenberg & Jeff Pinkner In Talks To Write ‘Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle’ Sequel
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($858,365,222) (Another Sequel Being Fast Tracked) Jumanj10
EXCLUSIVE: After Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle gave Star Wars: The Last Jedi a run for its money in December and has become the highest grossing non-Spider-Man hit that Sony Pictures has generated in forever, the studio has started the process toward the inevitable next installment. Sony Pictures is in talks with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner to write a sequel that will reunite Dwayne Johnson with Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan and the rest of the ensemble.

Matt Tolmach is back producing along with the Seven Bucks Production team of Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Though the film’s start date hasn’t been determined, Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan is expected back as he, Rosenberg and Pinkner come up with the sequel. The sequel has grossed $857 million globally on around a $100 million budget.

Rosenberg and Pinkner are repped by WME and they both wrote for Sony on Venom, the Ruben Fleischer-directed Spidey spinoff that stars Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams. The duo were last writers on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, a script that had earlier work by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

I can't believe it made this much. It's crazy to me to think that some people went back a second time to see it. I hated the trailer SO MUCH. But, you know what, I'll still check out the movie and give it a chance just to see WHY it made this much money.

Of course they're making a sequel..... Mad
