10 Cloverfield Lane (John Goodman / Mary Elizabeth Winstead) (March 11)
After surprising audiences time and time again, Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot have pulled another fast one on fans with the trailer release of the studio’s mystery movie, which is tied to another Abrams hit.
“10 Cloverfield Lane,” previously titled “Valencia,” stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr.
Abrams has since confirmed that the film, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, is set in the same universe as his 2008 monster movie “Cloverfield.”
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of ‘Cloverfield,'” Abrams said in a statement to Collider. “The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
According to a log line released by the studio when the film went into production, the story follows a young woman (Winstead), who wakes up in a stranger’s basement after a car accident. The man (Goodman) tells her that he’s saved her life from an attack that has left the outside world uninhabitable.
“Don’t open that door — you’re going to get all of us killed!” Goodman’s character exclaims in the trailer when Winstead tries to flee.
Whether the film is a prequel or a sequel to “Cloverfield” is unknown, but either way, Abrams has successfully found a way to keep a high-profile follow-up under wraps on the heels of its release. Following in “Cloverfield’s” footsteps (Paramount released a surprise trailer for the found-footage film in front of Michael Bay’s “Transformers” in 2007), the “10 Cloverfield Lane” trailer debuted on Thursday night before Bay’s latest movie, “13 Hours.”
During the casting process, the project was first titled “The Celler” and then changed halfway through pre-production to “Valencia.”
“10 Cloverfield Lane” is set to bow on March 11.

Interesting! He just dropped this out of nowhere. Is this a prequel or sequel?

Nobody knows, JJ's only said that it exists within the same Cloverfield universe. That dude cannot stop world building....

Hoping that a part of this movie will take place in the bunker and than we'll be able to see the characters leave and explore/survive in a post Cloverfield world.

I'm surprised there wasn't any word on this. In this day and age, nothing is really kept hidden. I wish every movie was like this and kept top secret.

I can't figure out if it takes place before, during or after Cloverfield. We shall see...

My guess is after. I'm guessing they were survivors who made a bunker and have been in there for years after the first attack. Just my guess though.UltimateMarvel wrote:WyldeMan wrote:Nobody knows, JJ's only said that it exists within the same Cloverfield universe. That dude cannot stop world building....

I saw Cloverfield once a long time ago and I don't even remember anything other than that ridiculous creature and a shitload of shaky cam and lens flares.

I've been seeing a lot of commercials for this one and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this. I wonder what the movie is all about. I feel like they have been keeping this one really secretive with this one. Either way, it's nice to see John Goodman back on the big screen in a major role.

I feel like everybody is expecting the Kaiju to show up but I don't think it will.

I am watching Cartoon Network right now and just saw a ... something. Maybe it was a commercial? It was a farmer riding around on a mower in a huge field. He's kind of just riding around erratically and after a few moments he passes his mailbox that says "10 Cloverfield".
Have any of you guys seen this? Weird commercial or whatever it was.

Was it Goodman or a random hillbilly?
I have not seen this and I can't find it on the YouTubes neither!

No, it was not John Goodman. It was a random older hillbilly guy. Riding around with a white top and I think blue jeans. Red mower. The grass was not very well kept.
I thought it was an Adult Swim promo thing because they often have some weird random clips with their logo or name somewhere hidden so I was looking around the screen trying to find it. But the shots kept changing - showing him from the side, then from the top down, etc. Then I saw the mailbox.
Looking back on it, the commercial did give me an eerie feeling. Mostly because the grass looked so bad and it seemed like he was just aimlessly riding around. At one point he is riding toward his house and he kind of gives a wave like he is acknowledging someone.
Weird!!!

Usually the only commercials I see with dudes on tractors are for FarmersOnly.com which get a lot of play around here.

You don't have to be lonely at Farmer's Only dot com.
So are there a lot of pretty "farm girls"? I tried to sign up on that site a while back and I remember seeing something that made it appear I had to prove I lived on a farm or something. D'oh!

I have no idea about the girls on FarmersOnly but country girls have been my preferred choice since I was old enough to chase their skirts. Your city girls are too sensitive about everything and uptight in my experience. There are some damn fine country girls all around me, they make up probably 70% of the crowd at every bar in town so I haven't felt the need to use the site.

Just watched this last night and it was awesome. I think I enjoyed it more than Cloverfield. It was very intense and suspenseful. This movie came out by surprise and I didn't know what to expect from it, I knew it would be similar to Cloverfield at least by the end of it though.
I think this is the first movie I enjoyed that MEW has done. John Gallagher Jr. I've only seen in The Newsroom and he was great too. Goodman was fucking creepy in this and he awesome too.

Just finished this. Wow, so good. Much like The Descent, it benefits from being creepy as fuck in a normal way before getting to anything extraordinary.
