Tony Longo Dies: Veteran Character Actor Was 53
Veteran character actor Tony Longo, whose imposing physique helped him land dozens of roles as the big tough guy in TV and film, died in his sleep at his home in Marina del Rey, CA. He was 53. His manager, Bohemia Group’s Susan Ferris, told Deadline she received word of his death on Sunday.
Born in New Jersey, Longo moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980s and began working in TV and film. One of his earliest roles was Artie opposite Linda Lavin on the TV series Alice. Over a 30-plus-year career he has appeared in films including The Last Boy Scout, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, Mulholland Drive, Feds, The Takeover, Living In Peril, 16 Candles, Splash, and Fletch among others.
His most recent credits included features Pizza With Bullets and Base. According to IMDB, he also had several projects currently in development.
“When the team at Bohemia met with Tony they instantly feel in love with his natural charm and charisma, but also each of the managers had their own special memories of Tony’s performances from his vast career,” said Ferris. “He had the excitement and willingness to do anything. There is some comfort in knowing that he died peacefully in his sleep. Hollywood has lost a great actor.”
Longo is survived by his daughters Chloe, Danielle and Alexis.

Amanda Peterson, Patrick Dempsey’s Co-Star in ’80s Classic ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ Dead at 43
Amanda Peterson, the actress who played Patrick Dempsey‘s leading lady in the beloved 1987 movie “Can’t Buy Me Love,” was found dead in her Greeley, Colo. home on Sunday, police told TheWrap. She was 43.
Peterson starred as Cindy Mancini, a cheerleader paid by Dempsey’s character to pose as his girlfriend so he can climb the social ladder at his Arizona high school.
Directed by Steve Rash, the film sits in a canon of ’80s fare alongside John Hughes and other angst masters. The film’s title is taken from The Beatles song of the same name.
Peterson also appeared in the 1985 sci-fi movie “Explorers,” which was the film debut of both Ethan Hawke and the late River Phoenix.
Missing since July 3, according to media reports, Peterson’s father speculated about preexisting conditions as possible factors in her death.
“She had some illness and a sleep apnea problem that may have contributed,” he told TMZ. An official cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Roger Rees, Star of 'The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby,' Dies at 71
A veteran of the London and Broadway stage, he abruptly left 'The Visit' in late May. The actor also was known for playing stuffy Englishman Robin Colcord on 'Cheers.'
Roger Rees, the Welch-born icon of the stage who gained fame for playing the title role in the original marathon production of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, has died. He was 71.
Rees famously played condescending English industrialist and Kirstie Alley suitor Robin Colcord on the NBC sitcom Cheers.
In late May, the Tony Award winner abruptly exited the Broadway production of the Kander & Ebb musical The Visit, in which he was starring opposite Chita Rivera.
“Roger Rees is undergoing a treatment for a medical condition, and while the prognosis is bright, he’s currently unable to perform in the show,” producer Tom Kirdahy said in a statement. “He’ll be back onstage as soon as he can, and we can’t wait to welcome him back.”
Survivors include his husband Rick Elice, the playwright whose credits include Jersey Boys and the Peter Pan prequel Peter and the Starcatcher, which Rees co-directed. (They each received a Tony nom for that 2012 play.)
Rees, who spent more than two decades with the Royal Shakespeare Company, captured the Tony for best actor in a play in 1982 for his work on the RSC production of Charles Dickens’ The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby.

Gone Baby Gone actor Sean Malone, 54, has died, 10 days after being found unconscious in the ocean off South Boston
Sean Malone, who appeared in the movies Gone Baby Gone and The Fighter, has died.
The 54-year-old had been in a coma since July 20 when he was pulled from the water by an off duty firefighter and three local teens after being found floating face down in the ocean off the M Street Beach in Boston.
A tweet from the Boston Fire Department at 2.55am on Thursday read: 'Sean Malone succumbed to his injuries this evening surrounded by his son Sean, parents and siblings at Boston Medical Center.'
The South Boston native was unconscious when rescuers reached him having reportedly got into trouble after swimming a long way out, according to local TV news station WCVB.
Malone, who most recently worked with John Travolta on the 2014 film The Forger, is the brother of Deputy Fire Chief Scott Malone of the Boston Fire Department.
The Boston Globe previously reported that a firefighter Chris Flaherty was working out with other firefighters on the beach when he became concerned at how far out Malone was swimming.
He went out on a paddleboard towards him but couldn't find him.
He flagged down three teens who were in a speedboat and together they searched until they came across Malone's lifeless body.
The young men named locally as Joey Binda and Elliott Chauvet, both 17, and John Feeney, 18, pulled him onto the boat and helped Flaherty perform CPR as they returned to shore.
Malone was transported to Boston Medical Center where he was listed as 'critical'.
A spokesperson foe the Boston FD, Steve MacDonald, said at the time that Malone's family was grateful for all those who helped the actor.
'They're praying for the best,' he told the Globe.

Wrestling legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61 ... TMZ Sports has learned.
Piper -- born Roderick George Toombs -- died from cardiac arrest in his sleep at his home in Hollywood on Thursday night. He was discovered on Friday.
Piper was a wrestling icon -- one of the biggest stars in the WWE back in the '80s, and even wrestled in "Wrestlemania I" back in 1985 ... squaring off against Hulk Hogan and Mr. T.
Roddy's rep tells us, "I am devastated at this news. Rod was a good friend as well as a client and one of the most generous, sincere and authentic people I have ever known. This is a true loss to us all."
Piper had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2006, but last November he said he was cancer free. A family source tells us he was "cancer free" at the time of his death.
A family member tells us, "Our family is saddened by the sudden passing of our father and beloved husband, Roderick Toombs aka Rowdy Roddy Piper."
Roddy was admitted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2005 and was one of the top 50 villains in the history of the WWE.
Piper had a long relationship with WWE -- last wrestling back in 2008 ... but appeared on various WWE shows up until 2014.
Roddy is survived by his wife Kitty and their 4 kids -- including 3 daughters and son Colton who's pursuing a career in professional wrestling.
The death is especially shocking considering we just spoke to him on Friday and asked his opinion about the Hulk Hogan scandal.

Oh no...............not Piper! They Live is one of my favorite 80's movies and he was always fun to watch in the ring. I hadn't heard about this about this until now, thanks for posting Joey.
Yes FB, it seems as if it isn't suicide it's a heart attack, very few wrestlers die of old age and the ones who do were around before the roid rage era.

Wes Craven Dies: Veteran Director Of ‘Scream,’ ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ Was 76
Director Wes Craven died this afternoon in Los Angeles. Craven was 76 and passed away at home surrounded by his family after battling brain cancer.
From his first feature film The Last House On The Left as writer, director and editor in 1972, Craven made his mark as a genre-bending, bracingly innovative horror director with a biting sense of humor. Craven also consistently demonstrated that he was a filmmaker with heart. Among the films that followed The Last House On The Left were The Hills Have Eyes and a sequel, Deadly Blessing (featuring Sharon Stone in her first starring role) and Swamp Thing (based on the comic book).
Craven reinvented the youth horror genre again in 1984 with the classic and very scary A Nightmare On Elm Street, which also introduced a then-unknown Johnny Depp. The movie spawned several sequels, none of them directed by Craven. He deconstructed the genre a decade after the original, writing and directing the audacious Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, which was nominated for Best Feature at the 1995 Independent Spirit Awards.
In 1996 Craven experienced yet another rebirth in horror with the release of Scream, which he directed from a script by Kevin Williamson. Scream sparked multiple sequels and spoofs.
One of the last projects Craven worked on was MTV’s series adaptation of Scream, on which he served as executive producer. The series was recently renewed for a second season. “Wes Craven was a tremendous visionary whose sensibility for scares has connected with generations of MTV fans,” MTV said in a statement. “We are honored to have worked with him and proud to carry on his legacy with Scream. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.”
Craven took a breather from horror between Scream 2 and Scream 3, when he seized an opportunity to direct a non-genre film for Miramax, Music Of The Heart (1999), which earned star Meryl Streep an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. That same year he completed his first novel, The Fountain Society, published by Simon & Shuster.
Bob Weinstein, who with brother Harvey Weinstein worked with Craven on the Scream and other movies and supported his decision to make Music Of The Heart, said Sunday “I am heartbroken at the news of Wes Craven’s passing. We enjoyed a 20-year professional relationship and more importantly a warm and close friendship. He was a consummate filmmaker and his body of work will live on forever. My brother and I are eternally grateful for all his collaborations with us. Our deepest sympathy to his family.”
Craven continued to stretch his creative boundaries with the 2005 thriller Red Eye, starring Rachel McAdams, Cillian Murphy and Brian Cox. The following year he switched gears again to write and direct a romantic comedy homage to Oscar Wilde featuring Emily Mortimer and Rufus Sewell as a segment in the popular French ensemble anthology Paris Je T’aime.
He then returned to horror as producer of remakes of two of his earlier films, The Hills Have Eyes (2006) and The Last House On The Left (2009). Craven’s most recent written and directed film, My Soul To Take (2010), once again brought together a cast of up-and-coming actors. It marked Craven’s first collaboration with wife and producer Iya Labunka, who also produced Scream 4, which reunited Craven with screenwriter Williamson, as well as with stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, joined by newcomers Emma Roberts and Hayden Pannetierre.
Remaining creatively engaged and active until his death, Craven had signed an overall TV deal with Universal Cable Productions. He had a number of projects in development including The People Under The Stairs and We Are All Completely Fine with Syfy, Disciples with UCP, and Sleepers with Federation Entertainment. UCP today called Cravens “a master artist” and said that it intends “to bring to life” all of his projects at the studio.
Craven also recently wrote and was scheduled to direct the “Thou Shalt Not Kill” segment for The Weinstein Company/WGN’s Ten Commandments miniseries. Additionally he was working on a graphic novel series based on his original idea “Coming Of Rage” for Liquid Comics in collaboration with Steve Niles.
Craven was an executive producer of the upcoming feature The Girl In The Photographs, which will premiere next month the 2015 Toronto Film Festival.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Craven was a nature lover and committed bird conservationist, serving as a long-time member of the Audubon California Board of Directors. A longtime summer resident of Martha’s Vineyard, he had moved there permanently three years ago before returning to Los Angeles for work and health reasons.

Amanda Peterson Died From ‘Acute Morphine Toxicity,’ Coroner Says
A Colorado coroner’s report released to TheWrap Wednesday said “Can’t Buy Me Love” star Amanda Peterson died from “accidental acute morphine toxicity.”The star’s body was discovered in her Colorado apartment on July 5, two days after she died. Her family had speculated that sleep apnea was responsible for her death at age 43. But the Weld County coroner’s office confirmed that Peterson died from an accidental overdose. Her mother Sylvia had previously asserted that Peterson was clean and sober. Yet the beloved ’80s actress had a long struggle with substance abuse.Peterson was reportedly arrested four times over the past two decades in her hometown of Greeley, Colorado, most recently on a May 2012 DUI and drug paraphernalia charge.Booking photos of the actress taken in 2000, 2003 and 2005 showed a significant departure from the fresh faced beauty who played opposite Patrick Dempsey‘s in the romantic comedy — and one photo even showed her with two black eyes.“This was not, in any way, a drug thing,” Peterson’s mother said at the time of her daughter’s death. In the days following her death, Dempsey tweeted, “in my memory, she will always be vibrant and young. Gone too soon. Sending my thoughts and prayers to Amanda’s family.”

Heidi von Beltz Dies: Stuntwoman Paralyzed In ‘Cannonball Run’ Crash Was 59
Heidi von Beltz, a stuntwoman who was paralyzed when a stunt went terribly wrong on the set of The Cannonball Run, died Wednesday at Tarzana (Calif.) Medical Center. She was 59 and had, with the aid of her sister, courageously battled quadriplegia for the last 35 years of her life.
Von Beltz was a stunningly beautiful 24-year-old stuntwoman, actress and world-class skier in 1980 when she got the call from her fiancée, stunt coordinator Bobby Bass, to come to the desert outside of Las Vegas to double for Farrah Fawcett on the ensemble action comedy starring Burt Reynolds.
The stunt, Bass told her, was going to be a piece of cake. All she’d have to do was ride as a passenger in the front seat of a car as it wove its way through a line of speeding oncoming cars. But the car, an Aston Martin, had no seatbelts, bald tires, defective steering and a malfunctioning clutch. When they tried to get it running on the morning of the stunt, another car had to push it to get it started, and then it couldn’t go faster than 8 mph. Director Hal Needham had a mechanic work on the car for a while, and Bass then took it out for a test run. He told von Beltz it was fine, but it wasn’t – and it still didn’t have seat belts.
When it came time to film the stunt, the car’s driver, Jimmy Nickerson, still didn’t think it was ready. He wanted more repairs but was told that the parts from Los Angeles had not arrived and that he’d have to “make do.”
“The last thing I remember before the crash was somebody yelling, ‘Faster! Faster!’ over the walkie-talkie,” von Beltz recalled. The Aston Martin then slammed head-on into the first in the line of onrushing cars, and she was hurtled into the windshield. When members of the film crew got to the scene of the burning wreck, they found her unconscious inside the car, her head hanging limply on her chest, her neck crushed. In that moment, everything changed: She was paralyzed from the neck down, and would remain so for the rest of her life.
In the wake of the accident, the industry adopted new safety guidelines that made seat belts mandatory on all stunt cars. “I’m very proud to have been a part of that,” she said, characteristically optimistic.
Von Beltz spent the next six months in the hospital before returning home to her apartment in Hollywood, where her whole family – father Brad, mother Patty, aunt Joanna, sister Christy and niece Allison – moved in with her and took care of her around the clock.
Her lawyer, famed San Francisco attorney Melvin Belli, filed a wrongful-injury suit on her behalf, and during the ensuing trial, Bass — who had abandoned her — testified that he and Needham thought the car was safe. The jury didn’t believe him and awarded her $4.6 million. “He knew the car didn’t have seat belts, but Needham didn’t want to stop. He wanted to save money,” recalled Von Beltz’s trial attorney, David Sabih. “It would have taken an hour or two to put them in. All the other cars had seat belts. He whitewashed it for Hal Needham.”
Needham, Hollywood’s most famous stuntman, had been the chief defendant in von Beltz’s civil suit, but he didn’t even mention the accident or the trial in his 2011 autobiography, Stuntman! He wrote about a “big mishap” that happened during filming of Cannonball Run, but it had nothing to do with von Beltz or the accident that left her a quadriplegic.
There was no mention in the entire book of Heidi von Beltz – just a funny story about a crane that fell over and crushed a Ferrari. There was no mention of the fiery crash that nearly killed her, crushed her spinal cord and left her in a wheelchair for life. There was no mention of the subsequent civil trial and verdict, in which a jury ordered Needham and his corporation, Stuntman Inc., to pay Heidi $4.6 million in damages – just a funny story about $12,000 worth of lights that got broken.
In 1996, von Beltz wrote her own book, Soul Survivor, an inspirational account of her remarkable life and spiritual journey on a path that she believed would lead to her full recovery one day. “I am the happiest person I know,” she wrote. “I know my life is moving in the direction I choose. I have a wonderful family, terrific friends, and a busy schedule. I play hard and I always, always have a good time. Some people might find this hard to believe, considering what happened to me.”
After the accident, doctors gave von Beltz only a few months to live, but she was determined to prove them wrong. “I had run into obstacles before,” she wrote, “and I had changed course, or slowed down or sped up, but this looked like the end of the road. My doctors said I wouldn’t live until Christmas, and that during the few miserable, painful months before I died, I would never move again – not a finger or a toe.”
But she never bought into their dismal prognosis. “My story,” she wrote, “Is about beating the odds, triumphing over adversity. But that’s everyone’s story. I have a burden, but so does everyone, whether it’s physical or emotional or financial or whatever. I have what people call a ‘disability,’ but in some sense, everyone does. Frankly, if it had been up to me, I would have picked one a little less extreme, but no one asked. The important thing to remember is you are only as disabled as you think you are.”
“I’ve got much more to accomplish on this Earth,” she wrote 19 years ago. “And you know what? It’s a blast.”
It wasn’t always so. After getting out of the hospital, she and her family moved into a big house on the beach in Malibu, where they lived for more than 20 years. Those were mostly happy times, where she was surrounded by family and friends, including actors Melanie Griffith — her friend since high school — Kathleen Quinlan, Neil Patrick Harris, Buck Henry and Richard Bakalyan. Before the crash, she’d dated Jack Nicholson and Harrison Ford, and after the accident, she fell in love again with a then-unknown actor named Ray Liotta, who remained her lifelong friend.
Von Beltz’s mother died in 1997, and two years later, her father — actor Brad von Beltz, who never got over his wife’s death — killed himself. One of the last things he said to Heidi was, “Do you want to go, too?”
“No,” she told him tearfully. She wanted to live.
After his death, Von Beltz’s sister Christy Weston was left alone to care for her. They decided to move back to the Valley, where they’d grown up, and bought a ranch-style home on a tree-lined street in Woodland Hills with a swimming pool and a backyard big enough to stable their two horses. “After my dad’s death, we felt so alone, but we decided not to look back,” Von Beltz’s said. “We were optimistic about the future.”
The sisters took in boarders to help defray the cost of around-the-clock nurses and mounting medical bills. “Life seemed back on track,” Von Beltz said. But it didn’t last. With their money running out, they refinanced the house, then lost it to foreclosure in 2011. They fought the new owner in court, who told this reporter that he was going to kick Von Beltz out of the house regardless of her disability. “Her ass will be on the street,” he told this reporter at the time. They lost that fight and spent the past four years living in a small apartment in the Valley. In declining health – she’d been rushed to the hospital 10 times during the past year – Von Beltz lost contact with many of her old friends.
She went into cardiac arrest following abdominal surgery on Oct. 18, and was put on life support. “She touched so many lives, with her strength and her courage,” said her longtime friend Suzanne Lewis, who was with von Beltz when she died. “Everyone who met Heidi fell in love with her. She had a spirit that never gave up. She was a warrior princess. Now, at last, she’s running free on those beautiful legs.”

I'd never read that story about the Cannonball crash, Needham and Bass sound like terrible men. What a sad twist of events due to pure negligence.

Gunnar Hansen, Original Leatherface Of ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,’ Dies At 68
Gunnar Hansen, the actor who first stretched cinema’s most unsettling mask over his head and delivered the iconic Leatherface to our nightmares, died yesterday of pancreatic cancer in Maine. The star of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 drive-in classic Texas Chain Saw Massacre was 68.
“May you spin with your chainsaw at magic hour forever more,” tweeted Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead. Wright, of course, was referring to the indelible image of Hansen’s psycho Leatherface handling his killer chainsaw like a demented baton-twirling cheerleader. On Facebook, John Dugan, the actor who played Leatherface’s grandfather, wrote “So long Gunn, my old friend……You’ll forever be alive in my heart.”
A native of Iceland who grew up in Maine, Hansen embraced the genre that brought him notoriety, often appearing at fan gatherings and filling his resume with B-movie features like Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Freakshow. His book Chain Saw Confidential was published in 2013, and he reportedly was developing a prison-horror movie called Death House at the time of his death, which was confirmed to the Associated Press earlier today by his agent Mike Eisenstadt.

Robert Loggia Dies: Oscar-Nominated ‘Jagged Edge’ & ‘Scarface’ Actor Was 85
Robert Loggia, veteran character actor whose career spanned 6 decades and who received an Oscar nomination in 1986 for his role in Jagged Edge died Friday in Los Angeles, his family have confirmed. He was 85.
Born in Staten Island, New York in 1930, Loggia attended the University of Missouri and served in the US Army before embarking on his career in entertainment. First working as a radio and TV anchor in the Panama Canal zone, his rise to fame began after playing real-life old west lawman Elfego Baca in a series of TV shows for Disney in 1958. Among his other roles during the following decade, he played the lead on NBC’s short-lived series T.H.E. Cat in the 1966-67 television season and he appeared on the CBS soap The Secret Storm as “Frank Carver.” He also had numerous guest appearances, including Overland Trail, The Untouchables, Combat!, Gunsmoke, The Big Valley, Rawhide, Little House on the Prairie, Starsky and Hutch, Charlie’s Angels, and The Rockford Files. In later years he also appeared on shows including Frasier, The Sopranos, and Monk.
He also had a varied film career, particularly during the 1980s, appearing in Revenge of the Pink Panther, An Officer and a Gentleman, Psycho II, Prizzi’s Honor, Over The Top, Necessary Roughness, Return to Me, Armed and Dangerous, and Lost Highway, among many others. He recieved his only Oscar nomination, in the Best Supporting Actor category for his turn as private detective Sam Ransom in the thriller Jagged Edge.
Popular culture will likely remember him best for three crucial roles in the 1980s and 90s. Playing drug lord Frank Lopez in Brian De Palma’s influential crime film Scarface, he mentors and then is betrayed by Al Pacino’s ruthless hothead Tony Montana. He delivered several of the film’s most iconic lines, including “don’t get high on your own supply”; the film was a particularly big influence on the development of hip hop, and that line has been frequently quoted by some of the genre’s biggest stars.
In 1988, he played Mr. MacMillan, the head of a powerful toy company for whom Tom Hanks’ adult-sized child Josh Baskin works in Penny Marshall’s Big. Loggia and Hanks shared the screen for the film’s most famous scene, when their two characters play chopsticks together on a giant piano keyboard laid out on the floor of a toy store.
Loggia also appeared as General William Grey Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin’s blockbuster Sci-Fi action film Independence Day, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff who advises Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore after aliens lay waste to all of earth’s major cities.
Loggia was married to Marjorie Sloan from 1954 to 1981. He is survived by his wife Audrey O’Brien, who he married in 1982, as well as three children and one stepdaughter.

As a kid I lost count of how many times I'd seen Big, Over The Top and Necessary Roughness and once I got a bit older it was Scarface so Loggia had a very strong presence in my childhood. Though I believe the last time I'd even seen him was way back on The Sopranos he was once a great character actor and that's a sad loss.

Abe Vigoda Dies: ‘The Godfather’ & ‘Barney Miller’ Actor Was 94
Character actor Abe Vigoda, who played the dilapidated Detective Phil Fish in the 1970s series Barney Miller and a short-lived spinoff and mafia soldier Sal Tessio in the first two Godfather films, has died. He was 94. Vigoda’S daughter tells The Associated Press that he died Tuesday in his sleep at his New Jersey home.
Vigoda began acting in New York theater and with small roles in television. The turning point in his career came in 1972 when Francis Ford Coppola cast him as Vito Corleone’s old friend-turned-traitor Sal Tessio in the Oscar-winning film The Godfather. He also appeared briefly in The Godfather Part II in a flashback sequence at the end of the film.
Vigoda went on to play the dilapidated Detective Sgt. Phil Fish on the 1975-82 sitcom Barney Miller, a character known for his world-weary demeanor and persistent hemorrhoids. He also starred in its spinoff show Fish that aired from February 1977 to June 1978 on ABC. He continued on both shows briefly, before Fish “retired” from Barney Miller in September 1977. Before those series, he made a few appearances on the ABC soap Dark Shadows as Ezra Braithwaite and Otis Greene.
Vigoda continued to work consistently in the ’80s and ’90s, with roles on Mike Hammer, Tales From The Darkside, MacGyver, Murder, She Wrote, Law & Order, Wings and soaps As the World Turns and Santa Barbara. He also played gangster Paul Castellano in NBC’s Witness To The Mob.
His most recent credit was 2014 in feature Sweet Destiny. His other films include Joe vs. The Volcano, North and Sugar Hill, among many others.

I always loved Abe's surprise visits on Conan when he'd drop by to let folks know he wasn't really dead. Those rumors were constant, lol.

‘L.A. Law’ Star Larry Drake Dies at 66
Emmy-winning actor Larry Drake, who played Benny on “L.A. Law,” died Thursday, his rep confirmed. He was 66.
A cause of death has not yet been revealed. According to TMZ, which first reported the news, Drake was found dead by his friend in his Hollywood home.
Drake played the developmentally disabled office assistant Benny Stulwicz on “L.A. Law.,” which was praised for handling Benny’s odyssey in a very progressive fashion, especially for the time, as he gets the job, finds his own apartment and gets a girlfriend over time, sometimes having to fight for his legal rights with the help of the attorneys who employ him. Drake recurred on the series from 1987-94.
He was Emmy nominated for the role three times, in 1988, 1989 and 1990, winning the first two times out. He reprised the role for “L.A. Law: The Movie” in 2002.
The actor was equally memorable in Sam Raimi’s stylish Liam Neeson fantasy action film “Darkman” (1990) as the villainous Robert G. Durant, appearing in the sequels as well.
He also starred as the homicidal physician of the title in the 1992 horror movie “Dr. Giggles.”
Drake had a supporting role in Rowan Atkinson’s hit 1997 comedy “Bean” as Elmer, and he appeared in “American Pie 2” in 2001 as Natalie’s dad.
In television, Drake was a series regular on ABC’s sci-fi series “Prey” in 1998 as Dr. Walter Attwood. Debra Messing and Frankie Faison were also in the cast.
In the 2000s, he nabbed a handful of voicework roles for animated TV series and guested on “Six Feet Under,” “Crossing Jordan,” “7th Heaven” and “Boston Legal.”
The actor had most recently appeared in the 2009 horror film “Dead Air,” directed by and starring his “L.A. Law” co-star Corbin Bernsen.
Drake was born in Tulsa and graduated from the University of Oklahoma.
The actor began appearing in small roles in movies in the early 1970s and made his television debut in a 1983 adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s “The Skin of Our Teeth” on PBS’ “American Playhouse.”
He was twice married, to actress Ruth de Sosa (1989-91) and Marina Drujko (briefly in 2009). Both marriages ended in divorce.

I knew him from so many different things but I hadn't since him since a tiny role in American Pie 2. When I was real young my dad would watch Dr Giggles and Darkman quite a bit on HBO and I always ended up watching them too so I always associated him with total lunatics when I was a youngin.
