The Man from U.N.C.L.E. ($55,911,626) (67% Fresh)

Henry Cavill stars as Napoleon Solo opposite Armie Hammer as Illya Kuryakin in director Guy Ritchie’s action adventure “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” a fresh take on the hugely popular 1960s television series.

Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” centers on CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin.  Forced to put aside longstanding hostilities, the two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology.  The duo’s only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe.

Tom Cruise was originally going to star and you hate him so what are you talking about?

Wasn't it going to be Clooney and Gosling early on? I thought Cruise came in somewhere in the middle

It was more of a wishlist really and as you can see they went after everybody.

In November 2010, George Clooney showed interest in the film and was in talks for the main role of Napoleon Solo, but he left in September 2011 due to a recurring back injury. After Clooney's departure, actors including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, Alexander Skarsgård, Ewan McGregor, Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Christian Bale, Michael Fassbender, Bradley Cooper, Leonardo DiCaprio, Joel Kinnaman, Russell Crowe, Chris Pine, Ryan Reynolds, and Jon Hamm were considered for the lead role. On March 18, 2013, Tom Cruise was in early talks to take the lead in the film. Armie Hammer was cast in the second lead role as Illya Kuryakin on April 24, 2013, with Cruise as Solo. Swedish actress Alicia Vikander joined the film on May 8, 2013 as the female lead. On May 23, 2013, Cruise dropped out of the film, due to his commitment to Mission: Impossible 5. British actor Henry Cavill replaced Cruise in the lead role. Elizabeth Debicki was cast in a femme fatale role on July 31, 2013; Rose Byrne and Charlize Theron were earlier considered for the role.

Casting BAKING SODA as Illya Kuryakin, is the equivalent of a silk scarf on a damn pig.

I hate him too, but I still enjoyed this.

Spot on on the Bond thing though.

The Armie Bomb strikes again, he's killed yet another potential franchise with a disastrous $13 million opening. He made sure I stayed away and saw Compton instead, apparently so did everybody else even though that was a biopic it opened to $56 million whereas this was a damned action movie and didn't even manage to pull in a quarter of that. It even lost second place to Rogue Nation which is already in it's third weekend of release. I feel sorry for Henry and Alicia, they deserved better than the Armietross.

LOL! You really hate that dude, don't you? I don't think he's a great actor either. He's very bland in all the roles we've seen him in. I don't know if it's entirely his fault that this movie bombed though.

It's not entirely his fault but it's probably at a minimum of 90% his fault. Armie Hammer is as exciting as baking soda. The Social Network is the only reason people even know who he is.
