Rambo: Last Blood (2019)

Post by WyldeMan on 5/6/2018, 12:37 pm

Sylvester Stallone may be 71 years old, but that’s not going to stop him from taking on some new enemies in yet another sequel in the Rambo action franchise.

Rambo 5 is currently being shopped around by Avi Lerner and his Millennium Films banner at the Cannes Film Market. And rather than passing the torch as Stallone did in the spin-off Creed, it looks like Sylvester Stallone will take the lead again as the Vietnam veteran who can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble.

Deadline has news of Rambo 5 in the works with Sylvester Stallone working on the script himself. Avi Lerner, who worked with Stallone on the Expendables franchise, will produce. But what brings Rambo back into action this time?

The last time we heard about Rambo 5 in 2014, the only details we knew were that John Rambo was going to face off with a Mexican drug cartel. It turns out that Rambo is minding his own business on a ranch somewhere, but when a friend’s daughter is kidnapped by the drug cartel, he crosses the Mexican border to get her back.

Does this mean that Millennium Films is no longer considering their reboot of the franchise with Rambo: New Blood? A couple years ago heard about the possibility of a project that would treat Rambo like James Bond and put another actor in the role without Sylvester Stallone being involved anymore. That sounds like an infinitely worse idea than Rambo 5, so hopefully this will just end the franchise entirely.

Rumors previously suggested Rambo 5 would be called Rambo: Last Blood, which would be an appropriate title to end the franchise that began with First Blood back in 1982.

If we’re talking about a Logan-esque send-off for Rambo, then this could be satisfying, but at the same time, I thought we were done with this character after Rambo hit theaters in 2008. While the sequel didn’t bomb, it didn’t make quite as much as First Blood did 26 years earlier, and it seemed like the character had run his course.

Stallone directed Rambo in 2008, but there’s no word on whether he’ll get behind the camera again for this developing sequel. No matter who directs, I hope they can do something to make this character compelling again. Because when you have action movies like John Wick and Mad Max: Fury Road making waves, I’m not sure that John Rambo can keep up with the genre that he once defined. We’ll keep you posted as Rambo 5 develops.

I've never been particularly into the Rambo franchise. I could tell you right now that I won't be seeing this one.

I love the Rambo franchise. The first and fourth are my favorites out of them so far. I hope this last installment brings the pain and body count. Sylvester Stallone once said he was too old to do Rambo now. I'm glad he's giving it one last go.

I'm in.

Same. First Blood is still an all time fav. Always watch-worthy.

It’s like Die Hard, with every sequel they get further from the point and greatness of the original

But unlike Die Hard, the Rambo films are all highly re watchable and I say this as someone who has frequently done so for two decades.

I don't disagree with that. First Blood shits all over Die Hard.

Fucking Die Hard. Every year I get inundated with Facebook posts telling me it's the Christmas movie of all Christmas movies. I then proceed to tell every single one of those cunts to fuck off, and begin to watch Lethal Weapon.

Wankers are so caught up in a catch-phrase, they forget what a good movie is.

Rambo is even better.

Die Hard is probably the most overrated guy movie of all-time. TV shows still continue to wax poetic about how it's the manliest movie ever made and how it's the greatest Christmas movie ever made but I feel like I keep hearing this because nerdy writers believe it's a super macho movie growing up so they feel like liking that movie also makes them macho by association.

For me, Bruce Willis has mostly been a giant gaping asshole in mostly every movie he's ever made so I can't count anything he's in as the best of any genre.

McClane is unworthy of the Falcon title, I did not misrepresent myself.

If John Rambo ever murdered John McClane, I'd be down for that movie.

Did you watch the clip I linked? It's the Mr. Falcon scene I'm referring to on television edits of Die Hard 2. Unless I'm missing your reference, then I apologize.

SORRY, NO SPEAK ENGLISH

That's gonna be my Go-To line from now on if I mess up.

Oh no sir, every man knows of the Falcon edit but that seems like a bad ass nickname unfitting of lame duck McClane, sorry if my angry English wasn't clearer.

Whenever I mess up, my preferred line is "This isn't where I parked my car".

I have never watched the television edit of Big Lebowski. That movie is crazy. My first thought would be "It is not possible to edit this for television." but now that you mention it, I feel like I have to track this down somehow.

LOL that just sounds funny.

Is it me or did the editors miss a swear at the end? It does sound like the guy is screaming:

"I kill your ugly car, man! I kill your fucking car!"

Fuck a stranger in the ass becomes Fight a Stranger in the Alps and the fact that he's screaming that at a child as he smashes a corvette in Suburbia, just makes it that much weirder....

‘Expendables 4’ Muscles Up: Stallone Action Pic & ‘Rambo 5’ Sell To China In Eight-Figure Co-Fi Deal

EXCLUSIVE: Chinese exhibition giant Dadi has pre-bought mainland China distribution rights to Sylvester Stallone-fronted action sequels The Expendables 4 and Rambo 5 from Avi Lerner’s Millenium Media.

Production on both franchises has long-been subject to rumour, but according to sales and production outfit Millenium, which has backed all of The Expendables movies and the latest Rambo installment, Stallone will return for Rambo 5 in September 2018 and star in The Expendables 4 in early 2019.

While there was no official word on the value of the China deal, we understand it is comfortably into eight-figures and essentially constitutes a co-finance agreement on the movies. The Cannes pact was negotiated by Millennium’s President Jeffrey Greenstein and Co-President Jonathan Yunger, and Executive Vice President Yu Yusan and Producer Allen V. Dam on behalf of Dadi’s distribution arm Dadi Film Distribution Co.

“It’s a great opportunity for Dadi to be involved with Millennium on such notable franchises,” said Dam. “As one of China’s largest exhibitors, we are very excited to be working with Dadi,” added Greenstein.

As we reported earlier this month, in Rambo 5 Stallone will reprise his role as John Rambo, this time crossing the U.S.- Mexico border to do battle with one of Mexico’s most violent cartels to rescue a friend’s kidnapped daughter. The plot and cast details for the next Expendables movie are being kept under wraps, but Stallone hinted at a comeback for the franchise earlier this year. Local media has reported that the movie will return to Bulgaria to shoot. In 2017, Arnold Schwarzenegger said he would consider returning for the franchise if Sly was in and he was happy with the script.

2014 actioner The Expendables 3, which was backed by Chinese group Le Vision Pictures, took more than $72m in China, almost double its theatrical revenue in the U.S.

Dadi is China’s second largest exhibitor with more than 455 theaters and 2600 screens in 178 cities. In early 2017 the company paid $575m for the Chinese cinemas of pan-Asian exhibitor Orange Sky Golden Harvest.

Millenium, the indie outfit best known for action franchises such as The Expendables, Olympus Has Fallen and The Hitman’s Bodyguard, is currently in post-production on action-fantasy reboot Hellboy. Upcoming titles include Jake Tapper’s The Outpost with Scott Eastwood, The Bayou starring Gary Oldman and Dylan O’Brien, and Poison Rose starring John Travolta, Famke Janssen and Morgan Freeman. Last year the company was almost bought by Chinese outfit Recon but a deal ultimately didn’t make. Lionsgate had domestic rights to the latest Rambo installment in 2008 and The Expendables 3.
